Please, please, PLEASE put those icons somewhere else!!
Oh my gosh...I LOVE SCS! I'm here many times a day. There is nothing more annoying to me that the MC icons. I love all the MCs...I buy their products. I'm tired of this forum being overrun with MC specific threads! I'm sorry...I'm just getting frustrated, and it makes my experience here less enjoyable. In fact when I come and see a bunch of them, I don't even bother staying around to see what's being talked about. Sad....:(
I agree. I think the initial concession was to move the icons to the right of the postings instead of the original left side. But I too find them distracting and they have taken over this forum.
Time them, most stay for less than 3 minutes and are gone because threads move so fast around here, unless it's a slow day, then they stay longer. They don't bother me one way or the other.
I agree. I've been skipping over the first page, usually heading right to page 2, unfortunately missing any of the regular posts somewhere in between the MC icons. I never minded any of the usual adverts on SCS, because they were not 'in your face', but the icons, unfortunately are exactly that. Kind of like those annoying pop-ups.
Oh well, can't have everything I suppose.
I agree, Val. Plus, a lot of the time they pertain to things I'm interested in but wouldn't otherwise see since I'm generally not in all of the various MC forums.
From the point of view of MCs, think how many non-MC company specific threads pop up in the General Stamping forum -- a TON. Why should the MCs be penalized from appearing in General Stamping when they are the ones who actually support SCS?!

I agree. Honestly, It doesn't really bother me at all anymore. I think that it wouldn't bother people so much if the icons were on the left, so they aren't as "in your face." As long as the topics are stamping related and if the icons aren't in such a distracting position, I don't see why it would bug anyone at all!

I don't understand why the mc's need to have the icons on their threads, though? People keep saying that they're penalized because non-MC's are posting left and right and they're not allowed to. I don't understand why that is. Why can't they post in the same way that any other company does when in the General areas? I'm just totally missing that whole argument...
When Daven first introduced this, he asked to have feedback. If you don't like them, (or even if you do), you should post it in the site suggestion forum. I have nothing against this thread, just thought I'd pass on Daven's request.
Here's my 2 cents, not that it matters in the slightest. :p
Visually speaking, I find the icons staggered on the right hard on my eyes and line of reading.
It seems to pull my eye away from the subject, and encourages me to gloss over and down the page until my eye reaches something that is "restful". And, that is usually a subject without an icon, and, of course, a topic that actually appeals to me.
In a way, it seems to me (speaking only from my own visual experience) that the icons are actually "repelling" me from the MC threads--not because I might not be interested in the subject itself, but, because I find the icon hard on my ability to scan the page to find topics that interest me.
However, if the graphic icon were located in the left, like an avatar; my attention would be focused on the topic at hand.
I will admit, that I personally always look at the avatar because I DO like to know who's talking or initiating the thread.
But, perhaps relocating the icon to the avatar position, would help MC threads blend in more naturally as part of the general flow of discussions, rather than feeling like visual obstacles keep popping up in front of my line of sight.
?
Does that make sense?
Anyway, just an idea.

Aaaah, yes! Thank you for the reminder!

Julie, I do like that idea. I didn't care for them on the right of the thread because it pushed the thread line out of whack and messed with the visual line going down. On the left is less bothersome, but in the avatar area would be POIFECT! I'll second your feedback in the site suggestion forum.
Just figured out that it would have to go in that space where the little colored boxes are on that first page, there isn't an avatar area on the main page, just here inside. hmmmmm.
If you look in this thread, post number 54, you will see Judi did a mock up of just that idea. That totally gets my vote, I think it would be the perfect solution.
Of course, I'm not that computer savy, especially when it comes to codes and such, so it may not be possible.
I guess I'm in the minority. :( I kind of liked them, because I rarely have time to check individual MC forums. I like being able to see thread activity in the MC without having to click over there.
I'll be sad if they go away, but I will understand if SCS choose's to take them away based on popular response.

Hi, Kay -- Thanks for remembering my screen shot . That link isn't working for me, but here's another copy of my mockup from reply #54 so that people don't have to go scouting around for it. As you pointed out, I don't know what's involved with actually implementing this idea. I just like the looks of it.
I personally don't mind them. It gives me a chance to see what is going on in the MC, and if it is something that catches my interest then I am compelled to go to the MC forum and see what is going on there.
I don't mind them per-say as I have been noticing threads I wouldn't have before - BUT I find the icons distracting when they're scattered so randomly.
I REALLY like the example above - either that or some way for all the icons to be lined up (I don't really care whether they're on the left or right) so that they're visually appealing and I'd be happy!!
my vote is for something like this too............

MC stands for Member Company. It means that the company supports SCS by having a company forum here. The "MC icons" are the small company logos that currently are floating to the right of the thread titles on page one of the General forum's index page.
Thanks for your input, everyone! When we rolled out the Member Company feeds, the icons were off to the left of the posts, right before the thread title. We moved them (well, we = the smart guys!) to the right side in response to suggestions in the threads here and in Site Suggestions. We are listening! If you're interested, you can read Daven's responses to concerns in this thread.
