Great question! I am new to stamping. Just started stamping in April and have 29 SU ink pads, versa mark, 1 metallic gold, SU Markers, SU Watercolor pencils, & non SU chalk. I just became a SU demonstrator effective July 27 and am waiting for my kit to arrive. It should be here today! By the end of this year, my goal is to have all of the ink pads! gotta have it all!
I have all the classic colors, the old retired colors and an assortment of neutrals, metallics and spectrum pads. I seem to have a bit of the "collector" mentality as there are some I rarely use, but I like knowing I have them should the need arise.
I've been meaning to ask this question: how are you doing the new in color series? I love them, but I'm an orderly girl, I don't know if it will drive me crazy to have these inks that in a year will not be new, seen in the catalog, seen here as much, won't be able to get maching paper (matching is a big deal for me...)
But I love some of the colors, what do you all recommend? Is this going to drive someone crazy, not being able to get the papers and markers and whatever? Do I bite the bullet and buy and enjoy for the year and see what they come up with next time?
Keep in mind I'm seriously thinking of selling my old ink pads not ing the catalog anymore for the very reason they're not matching any new paper... I know, it's crazy but I like to be organized and match and coordinate.
I'm over 200 - all the classic pads (in retired colors as well as everything that's now offered), 2 full size craft families (and all the spots), Versamark, Kaleidacolors, all the distress inks, Opalite, Distress, Brilliance, Fluid Chalk. Yep, I'm definitely an addict.
I love to use my ink pads to water color with. I also scrapbook with my stamps and find that I like using the coordinated color with the paper for my pages.
Oh I forgot to add, I have 30 different colors, including the in colors that I have gotten so far plus the black and brown classic, white craft, gold, Two boxes of Craft spots, versamark and that is about it. I love my colors.
I voted 24-48. Some of my originals are getting very well worn. <G> Had planned to buy all of the spots this year but since I haven't found many 'must have' stamp sets in new catty, I'll work on stamp pads and accessories.

I have all 48 of the SU regular classic stamp pads, the 6 new SU in colors classic stamp pads, 4 SU classic neutrals, 3 SU craft stamp pad, all 48 SU craft spots, SU BB classic spots, 3 Encore, 2 versamark pads, 1 top boss, 2 StazOn, and I think 3 of the SU kids pads. Oh, and the 6 SU spots that came in the two punch boxes. I haven't used ALL of the craft spots yet, but I am a spoiled brat and want to have access to whatever I want whenever I want it. LOL. Therefore, this list is subject to change, quickly and often as I add the craft pads and the rest of the classic spots and the 2 StazOn pads that I don't have yet.

I love the tone on tone look, so I purchased all of the SU ink pads in classic ink. I have the white in the craft ink. In stazon, I have black, timber brown, and old olive. At some point I will order the stazon white.
OK, I confess! I have:
All Classic and Craft pads of all the current colors and retired colors
All of the reinkers
All of the stampin' spots, both craft and classic
All of the new colors
Many Encore and Kaleidoscope pads
And a drawer full of junkie old stuff I bought at the LCS before I discovered Stampin' Up
Why? Because I might NEED them!!!
Love to stamp!

I chose less than 12. I am a newbie. I do have all of the Spots, I didn't count them though. I thought you were referring to full size pads. I have the 6 Classic pads that came in my kit and I've gotten 2 Craft Pads-white and vanilla. I have 2 Staz-On and a few others. So actually I may have more than 12 full size, but I'm not sure and I'm at work right now.
I was kind of surprised at how many people have the "whole enchilada" PLUS! Me, I just can't justify that kind of expense, even though I am a demo. I just buy my pads onsie-twosie and I generally do just fine. Although I do have all the spots, except for Earth Elements. I don't use those colors much. I actually use my spots to determine which colors I need the most - whichever ones I reach for the most often are the ones I buy in the full sized pads. I also have like 3 craft pads - I think they're yucky!

I have 46 of the classic pads, 9 craft pads, versa pad, 3 kalidescope pads, all neutral pads, all the retired colors from the classic pads too All craft spots from BB and SS, Classic spots from BB. All Staz-on pads retired and current. 6 CTMH pads I think that's it.!!!
I'm in that less than 12 catagory--I would like more, but I have a budget for my craft stuff every month, and there is always something else to get instead! I haven't been able to order a single set from the new catty yet, and that comes before ink for me! I have been able to make some really good stuff with my limited colors, but I think I NEED to get some craft spots so I can do more--and maybe participate in the color challenges!
