Production of stamps..?

How many stamps of any one set do you think SU makes? And if it retires and they have extras what do they do with those?

I'm not sure how many they make but I believe that the extra retired sets are given away when SU makes donations to charitable organizations. I have heard many stories from demos about receiving great donation boxes from SU

I'm not sure of any numbers, but I do know that towards the end of the catalog sales period they cut production of the retiring stamps a bit so they can get as close as possible to the number of stamps needed. Towards mid- to late- June retiring sets are often on backorder for a day while another run of stamps is produced. Of course, all orders submitted by demos by June 30th will be honored-- no "running out" of stamps! Be sure to contact your demo to find out when she needs your order to be able to submit it to SU.

As Stephanie said, many retired stamp sets are donated either through demo requests to schools and other charitable causes or to those causes directly (such as the RMHC).

I remember reading somewhere that sometimes the rubber is used on playgrounds (after being shredded for such use). There was a thread somewhere with a link in it for the story, but I don't have time to find it.

Yes, but that's using "bad" rubber-- where the images don't come out of the mold quite right. The good stuff gets used for its intended purpose! ;)

That's right. Can you imagine them cutting up good stamps just because they are retired?:o That would be a crime!!
