Before you tut and roll your eyes, remember I'm foreign. I am intrigued to know the relevance of Dalmatian puppies in the Fire Brigade set. Please can someone tell me?
Dalmations are kind of a stereotypical/ traditional fire house dog. Not that I've ever seen one actually in a firehouse Don't know if it's just a USA thing, or if they're portrayed that way in Canada as well. And I know I've heard the reason, but cannot recall it now. Can anyone else contribute?
Well, well, well. You learn something new every day. Thanks everyone for the info! I guessed that the Dalmatian was perhaps a symbol of firefighters, but couldn't think why.
Although the article didn't state this, I have heard from old-timer fireman that the dalmations running along side of the horses actually made the horses run faster! It was sort of like competition for them, they would each spur each other along to run as fast as they could to get to the fire. I was very young when we had dalmations as a child and I don't remember this too well about them (my grandparents had horses and our dalmations did love them!) I have had a husky dog for 16 years and she wouldn't let any dog or animal get ahead of her while running, so I imagine this might have been true for dalmations, too!
