I was reading a post in Announcements about Viking's changes (never bought from there yet). Many people were talking about the mono adhesive.
Is that Tombow's mono-adhesive?
I used to just love it, but I've been having problems with it lately... my stuff isn't sticking! After a short while, it falls apart. I know I bought permanent, cuz I'm anal about checking to make sure.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I've use mono to stick photos in scrapbooks and have gone back weeks later to find all the photos sitting at the bottom of the page - hanging on by just a page protector. Now I use double sided tape.
I haven't had any trouble with stuff coming apart. I think one thing that helps is really pressing your pieces together, just like you would if you used a glue stick.

I have been having trouble with the mono adhesive as well especially if the paper is crimped or destressed. I figured I was just being stingy and started using more. This seems to help.
I've also been having trouble. If it's anything I really want to stick for a long time I don't use it. Seems like it's just not as sticky as it used to be.

I have had trouble with it too. Using more definitely seems to help and sometimes I slap a little 2 way glue in a few spots if I really want to make sure. I'm sure I'm going overboard, but it drives me nuts when stuff comes unstuck!
I love the way mono-adhesive is applied, but I'm tired of the problem. I saw double sided tape mentioned. Anyone have other suggestions? What about Xyron tape? I haven't tried that.
I also had the problem with stuff not staying when I used mono. I never understood why everyone seemed to love it, but it never worked for me. I always thought I was doing something wrong. I now prefer double sided tape and the double sided photo squares. I get the photo squares at Hobby Lobby. They are pretty cheap. I stock up when they are on sale. Double sided tape or the photo squares stick a lot better than mono, at least for me.

Absolutely - mono is awful!!! It is so embarassing when I go to someone's house and see a card I sent them and it is sitting there with pieces propped up against it because it FELL APART! I press like crazy but it still happens. I am convinced that mono is almost useless. Wish I were one of those people it worked for because the other options cost more. I just care too much about how my stuff holds up once it's been given to use it anymore.
I was also having problems with mono. When I first started using it, it was great. Then my cards were falling apart. I recently switched to Dotto, which Stampin' Up also sells. So far so good with the Dotto. Anyone else like Dotto??
I've had trouble with mono as well and have quit using it. I assumed it was our humid climate here in Houston. I now use Scotch double-sided tape (generic brands do not stick as well). I also like the Creative Memories tape runner adhesive. I have not had any problems with it sticking.
I'm so glad it's not just me! I've only used Scotch double-sided tape cuz I can't any of the mono to stick either. I've never heard anyone admit to before now! I just thought I was crazy one! I've also been following the thread about whether Scotch double sided is acid free or not. I'm beginning to wonder if it is since it doesn't say. ALL my scrapbook albums are done with Scotch d.s. tape. At least it won't fall apart!
I'm so glad it's not just me!!!
Too bad someone at Tombow isn't reading this (or maybe, they are...that would be good!)
I've had cards that were assembled w/ double stick tape fall apart in time (but a reasonable amount of time!) when the tape dries.
It got me depressed thinking/wondering if my stuff is holding together? Course, for some of the people, they would't know 'cuz they probably already tossed it out!
It just doesn't stick like it used to. Plus, my beef is that half the mono gets left on the roll because it balls up on the edges and you get adhesive 'boogers'.
I love the convenience, the portability, etc. I can't get Dotto to work. I've been using the Duck Red Container stuff and its ok, but still isn't fabulous.
What we should do is email Tombow and really jump on this. If they get enough feedback they ought to do something. It does no good to just be disgusted and not say anything.
This is a call to action sisters!!! We want adhesive that sticks!!!
I have some of the same problems with Mono but have found if I use MORE of it, then it works better. It's so cheap from Viking that I have a hard time switching to something else. How much is the scotch double sided?
I have no trouble with Mono. I also use Dotto which I like. SU just put something out a few months back where they reccommended(sp?) Dotto for scrapbooking projects.....
Regarding whether or not Scotch double-sided tape is acid free, I decided to write to 3M directly. Here is the first answer I got:
"Thank you for contacting 3M regarding the 665 Double-Coated Tape.
This product passes the photo activity test, so it is photo-safe, but is
not acid-free.
We do have a double coated tape available that is acid-free, however. The
002 Scotch(R) Photo & Document Tape is double sided, acid-free and
photo-safe. This product is usually available through Michael's, Tall
Mouse, Pearl Art and Craft, Staples, K-Mart and other local art and craft
supply outlets in your area. You may also use the product number to search
for it online, or place an order through Automated Distributors, at
1-800-327-8830."
I then asked them how it could be photo safe and yet not be acid-free. This is the answer I got:
"To claim Acid-Free, the product must contain NO acid. Photo-safe means the
product contains a little acid, therefore cannot be claimed "acid-free",
but has passed the PAT Test (Photo Activity Test) and will not harm
photographs. Adhesives that pass the PAT Test will not crack or yellow over
time and are safe for scrapbooking and photographs.
The following products have been tested, and meet our stringent "acid-free"
requirements:
The following is a list of 3M products that pass the Photo Activity Test
(PAT) and are safe for attaching photographs, use with art materials,
mending paper, repairing documents, etc.:
Photographic Activity Test (PAT) is an industry-standard test that uses
fading, spotting or staining detectors to evaluate whether enclosure
materials, inks and adhesives are safe to use with silver photographic
images. As of 1997, this test is done on negatives, as well as the fronts
and backs of both color and black & white photographic prints. Products
which pass this test will not damage or change the image on negatives or
photographic prints. 3M has this testing done by an independent laboratory.
Hope this information is helpful. If you have additional questions, feel

We appreciate your interest and use of 3M products.

I thought this might help some who wondered about this question. I for one will stick with the double sided tape. (no pun intended!)
