Default Question about PolyShrink or Shrinky Dink...

Yes - I said Shrinky Dink (you use what you got - right?)

My question is: Can you only use sharpies with shrinkydink/polyshrink? or can you use your Stampin Up markers?

I'm finding that the Sharpies make my stamped images too dark.

Any Suggestions? As I could sure use some.

Sue

I know you can't use markers cause it never dries. I have tried it and it always smeared.

So - do you think that the "non" watercolor Prismacolored Pencils would work?
(If so - I may need the chart that matches the Prisma Colors to Stampin Up colors)

Or - are we talking about watercolor pencils? (I've got both)

HMMMMM....never thought of colored pencils...

When I use polyshrink I stamp the image with the black craft ink. Then you have to let it dry for a little while. After a few minutes, I start coloring in the image with the SU markers. I then use the embosser to "shrink" and then cover the image with clear nail polish to seal it. The only time I have had a problem is when I was experimenting and I used Crystal Effects to seal the image. It smeared...clear nail polish...thats the ticket!

Ha clear nail polish hu? Interesting. Never heard of that.

I just used the sharpies and they work great for me.

I just tried one using the stampin up markers - looks great!! colors look good and I don't think I"ll need nail polish - I think the color is set (fingers crossed). I especially love how the colors match up with the card - that's what I was trying to do.

Thank you ladies for all your help - it's nice to know I can use my Stampin Up markers with my kids' ShrinkyDinks. I'm having fun now!!!

Thanks again,
Sue

And they even sell a little Shrinky Dink oven! My kids really wanted it, but I said no, we could use the real oven. No sense in spending extra money on such an "extra," but now I'm eyeing that thing again -- good size for the craft room! LOL!

Prarie Stamper, did you know you can use your embossing gun to shrink them instead of the oven???

You can also use SU!'s Metallic Pencils for coloring shrink plastic. Works great!! My all-time favorite, though, is the Stampin' Pastels.....The color deepens when shrunk. Have fun!!!!!

One of the girls in my upline group bought the oven at a garage sale for around $1.00, and uses that for her polyshrink. You can sometimes find them on sale for around $10.00... I've debated about it too, I have such a hard time with the embossing gun, and my oven barely works.

I use markers all the time. I always rough up the image first. Then after they shrink I hit them with a quick shot of acrylic spray to seal them. It's worked for me every time.

Do you use a blender pen to apply the Stampin' Pastels?

Which is the best way to color in, in your opinion?

Thanks!

Petal point chalk inks work GREAT! You don't even have to seal with a clear coat.

Default Pure Color Pencils

I stamp the glossy side with Stazon or a permananent marker then color the rough side with pure color pencils. No problems.

I usually use the Stampin' Pastels also but have you seen all of the cool colors of Sharpies lately??? They have soooo many new awesome colors! I have seen them at Walmart. You might want to go check them out!

I stamped a sanded side with Staz on and colored with Sharpie Markers. I too thought they were too dark so I would blot it with my finger while still wet. I shrunk them in my toaster oven and sealed with clear finger nail polish after they were cool.

I bought 2 shrinky dink ovens on clearance last year for $5.00 each. I gave them to my neices for Christmas. I noticed their sheets come pre-sanded.
