Default Retired stamps or waiting for new ones?

Should I rush to by the retired stamps that I really like or do you think there will be "better" ones in the new catalog? I can't decide if i should save my money for the new catalog or if I'll regret not buying right now?
Help me spend my money! :p

To help you decide, look at the gallery of projects made with the stamps you might regret not buying before they're gone. If the samples get your juices flowing, go for it! I bought some sets that I had been coveting for years...the thought of never having the opportunity to have them was enough of a motivation. Also, check with your demo - maybe some retiring sets will be available from her.

Happy spending!

I've debated this myself and have decided to wait for the new. Some of the older ones I like will surface on E-bay if I decide later I must have them. I usually end up liking the new stuff though, it's fresh and I'm not tired of seeing it!

I had the same issue. I ended buying Still Life Stems -- it's such a beautiful set and it's rare to see such detailed stamps like that (of course I have very limited view as I'm new to this and my LSS are a little lacking). I just had to have it! I also bought French Script, but that may have been a mistake --

So maybe buy one or 2 that you MUST have. I'm excited to see new stamps ! My problem is-- get the markers now or later ?!

Buy what you LOVE and then wait for the new catalog. If there is one set that you have been waiting to get, buy it now. I am just waiting for the new catalog myself.

Buy anything you love and anything that has a niche market you are involved in (such as the I Love Soccer set). I would also suggest buying any sentiment sets that catch your eye. True, these will probably be replaced with new sets, but I like having a good variety of "words" to work with. Either way, ask yourself if it's something you'd be willing to pay huge e-bay mark up prices for (as I am currently doing  ).

I went through my catalog and made a list of all the stamps I didn't want to do without, THEN I compared it to the retiring list. There was only ONE set and a couple of wheels that were on the retired list. So those are the only ones I bought.
I didn't go through the gallery looking at all the marvelous cards that people have made with all of the retiring stamps---because most of you gals can make what I think is the ugliest stamp set and turn it into something beautiful! I didn't want to be swayed into buying a set I wouldn't normally want (which is SO easy for me).
For me it was a way of keeping from going overboard on buying up all the retiring stamps, so I can afford to buy the new ones that will come to take their place! I can't imagine I'll be disappointed!

Also, don't forget the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here. You might be able to find the retired sets here after the new catalog comes out.
God bless.

In the past I have resisted buying sets that I really loved because I knew I would want stuff from the new catalogue. Then I really, really pined for the retired sets and had to get them used (which is a bit risky). I wound up getting them from good people, but there's always a chance to take doing it that way. So now I know that if I really love a set, I should get it because I will use it and enjoy it.

I would recommend deciding which sets you just absolutely love and getting those. Then when the new catalogue comes out you will have six months to decide what to get from it.

I would make you list and than look at your top 5 and see if you really want them. Last year I made the mistake of not getting a set that I wanted and I still really wanted it after the catalog came out. I pined and pined and finally found it on E-bay.

As a demo I only use current product so I am anxiously awaiting to see the new stuff coming out! If I were a customer only I would get what I loved as you will not only know the availability of it then but the price you may end up paying for it.

As for the markers, I would get them now as you do not know how much they will be come July.

If you LOVE a set, buy it. If you're not sure, then wait for the new catty. Good luck!

It depends on if you are a demo, I'm not. I always buy the retiring stuff I need...you can get a good feel on what sets are plentiful in the trade forum, that you may be able to buy after they retire. There are some sets I want, like Peace Be Unto You and Buggies and Booties, that do not seem to be as plentiful, and I will certainly be buying new before they retire. Good Luck!

I hope they come out with a better grad set too! And more Christmas sets that are current!

I went through the retiring list and circled all the ones I wanted, then I went through those and narrowed it down to four:

Mon Ami, Trick or Treat, Ruff Day, and Fairytale Wedding

I think out of those four, I will definitely be buying Trick or Treat and Ruff Day......but I'm also holding out for some cute stuff in the new catty.

I love the double line doodle set!

I only bought one set that I've wanted for some time. I decided to hold out, because with the huge number of sets that are retiring, I think something really big is coming!

I had the same thought.. I think I'm just going to wait for the new book...If it tuns out that there is a retired set I 'have to have' then I can trade for it or go to the 'bay'..lol

Last year I bought one SU set I couldn't live without, and 5 TAC sets- because I was new to TAC so I hadn't had all year to buy them, and they discount retiring stamps. This year, I'm waiting to see the new stuff for SU, and am buying 2 TAC sets.

My philosophy is that if the stamp hasn't attracted me enough to buy it during the time it's in the catalog, then I don't really want it that bad.
Also, you'll start seeing samples made with the new stamps and want to be making cards with those instead of *has been* stamps!

BOTH!
I am planning a last hurrah party before the book ends, most my friends and family want at least something thats going still so... I know i am going to get that cheesecloth background ( backgrounds on ebay are ridiculous prices) and that round tab punch from the mini spring book...
I know i will get bookings since all of us are addicts... its just a matter of how far can the budget stretch??

BOTH! I bought a couple of retiring sets that I figured I would really regret not buying. However, I've also been putting little bits aside so I have money to spend on the new catty. (I NEED that new punch box LOL!)

I'm buying the things that I know I can't live without. I've been trying to pace myself and this is the way to finally take that big leap. I'm not a demonstrator and I'm glad - I can't imagine of not being able to use all these great stamp sets.

I'm also stocking up on paper.

DO BOTH, I AM!!!! LOL! I prepare myself (and my budget, and my DH!) for this time of year every year. I have several items I'm ordering from the retiring list, and then I'll create a wish list and probably make my first new catalog order in August.

I always end up regretting my retired list purchases because once the new catty comes out, I never use them! So I don't buy off the retired list anymore. Also, if I don't have it by now, it's not one of my faves. I'm really glad to see so many sets going this year!

Both! I keep an ongoing Wish List throughout the year. When the Retired list comes out I buy what is retiring from my Wish List and roll the others into the next's year's Wish List. I fudged a little this year because the Retired List was SO big that I bought a few sets I was on the fence about. It's a risk each year that something will be better than what you've passed up, but I'm rarely disappointed..... of course, I'm hoping for some masculine (fishing, hunting, 4-wheeling) sets this year. (A gal can Wish, can't she??)

French script could never be a mistake. It works for so many occasions and other kinds of stamps (Valentine's, weddings, friend, nostalgic, anniversary, etc.)

That said, I'm waiting for the new catty. I have enough of the retired stamps and I don't feel like I truly love the remaining ones enough to buy.

It's a great tip to look at the gallery. I use that as my guideline to buy now--much better to judge the versatility of the stamp set and the practicality of it before buying!

French Script is the only SU one I bought. I have a different brand but it's not full size so when FS hit the retiring list I decided to go for it. I have a few TAC sets I'm buying (they discount thiers too, which is a bonus!) Otherwise, I'm waiting for the the catty. I'd say if you LOVE it, buy it now otherwise wait and see what new things entice you. ;)

That's awesome! What's the discount? Is the retired list posted somewhere?
