Default Rotary cutter - help

I am thinking of buying a Fiskars rotary cutter (about $40) which also has different shaped wheels (deckle etc)for the edge of cards as well as for scrapbooking. Please give me your thoughts on this cutter or can I do better than this?

All I can tell you is I have one and You really have to push hard when you are cutting I can't use it for very long at a time but I do love the look.

I have the Fiskars rotary cutter and over time the groove that the blade runs in begins to warp so your cuts aren't straight. I then purchased the CutterBee because they offered a number of different blades and they had a cutting mat that was replaceable. I also purchased the Fiskars Ultimate cutter and was fine with it until I tried to replace the cutting mat. The ones they are selling now are about 1/2" wide. The ones in my cutters (I bought several for workshops) are 1/4".

For ease of use, I much prefer the CutterBee, even to my Carl Cutter which is difficult to measure smaller increments with. If I could find the correct size cutting mat replacement I would be just as happy with the Fiskars Ultimate.

Hope this helps.

Karen

I purchased a rotary cutter a few years back - fiskars brand. It's ok - but in truth I use my 12" fiskars blade cutter more than anything else. I hardly ever get out the rotary cutter - but I don't usually cut more than one sheet at a time.

I love my Carl rotary cutter. You have to press down to cut, but it's not hard. It sells for about $25 (I got mine on sale for $20 at Staples last year). I think it has some different blades that you can buy separately, but I would not want to change blades anyway. Too time consuming just to get a little deckle edge cut. I bought a replacement blade recently so I now have about $25 plus tax invested.

Funny. I just did a search for the same type question. I have one and I dislike it. I'm wondering if I'm just using it wrong. Now the rotary blade wobbles (in tight) so that my line swerves from start to finish. I wish they made one like the Stampin Up one / Fiskars - just larger and more heavy duty - but the exact same thing. Deeper blade and multiple specialty blades. Anything like that?

Not having a ton of extra "fun" money I purchased the Fiskars Rotary (for about $20 with a 50% coupon at Michaels) and didn't like it at first but was to cheap to "trash" it and buy a new one... I kept trying and trying and now like it. If you're getting a wavy line, change the guard... it worked for me and I haven't had problems since. It's a really hard decision trying to decide what cutter to get and then how much to spend on it too... Good Luck! I'm in seach of a new little one now...

I have an "old style" Fiskars rotary, I still see them in stores--probably old stock. Mine has provided wonderful cuts for nearly 6 years! I have all the decorative blades they offer for it. I have only had to replace the cutting mat (long rectangular piece that the blade cuts on) once. It can be flipped onto its 4 sides before replacing. The blades last a long time as well. I've read that folks have had problems with their Fiskars recently, but Fiskars has remedied their problems by getting them new cutters. I figure with mass production of anything there is always a few lemons. They seem to replace their lemons without a problem.
