I'm curious to hear what people have to say about this as well. I know that you are supposed to be able to use your scoring blades in your paper cutter to create crisp creases for folding your cards, but I find that the blade just chews up the paper (practically cutting through it). I thought it looked awful. Am I just pressing too hard or something?
It is used to fold cards. Personally I have one and never use it. I fold them myself. Also sometimes I scored too deep. Alas, making another card front. LOL
I couldn't live without mine. The key is to not push down on it when you're scoring. Use a light touch. I think it is the fastest, neatest way to make a great looking card! Ann p.s. I have the old style fiskars cutter that I use the scoring blade in.
The scoring blade came on my fiskars trimmer. The cutting blade is orange and the scoring blade is black.
Basically, it's a little rounded piece of wire that makes a crease in the paper for folding. If I press down too hard on mine, it just chews up the paper. So, I always carefully run it up and down the paper several times with a light touch.
Hey, I agree. . .it is all too easy to apply to much pressure with that scoring blade. . .BUT. . .just use your bone folder with your paper trimmer. . .place the tip of your bonefolder on the indentation line and pull towards you. You will end up with a beautiful crease, much nicer than hand folded and easy to do!
I couldn't operate without mine. Each black scoring blade has it's own pressure you need to apply. Some need a lot of pressure, while others - like yours, needs just a touch. Keep working with it - I think you will like it!
I always use the scorer on my paper cutter. It gives you a much better scored line than with your bone folder. But if all you have is the bone folder you can still use it. The bone folder is great on curved lines but the scorer is absolutely wonderful for cards and boxes, etc.
I initially bought a bone folder, and had a real hassle trying to score my cardstock with it. I then found out about the scorer attachment for the Fiskars cutter, and I went out and bought one. I haven't gone back since
I love my scoring blade. You can use it for 2-4-6-8 boxes that turn out great using it. And all kinds of other creases you need. I use it when I make a set sampler or a topper. I use it alot. I lost mine once and tried using the bone folder in my trimmer. Hated it. Didn't turn out as well. Went crazy until I got my new one.

I use mine any time I am cutting out boxes or pouches where I've used a template. It makes putting it together so much easier. Just score along the dotted line and you'll have crisp lines when you fold. It's great.
Mine was a huge help with my Christmas cards. Once I bought my new Fiskar's Rotary cutter, I ended up with an old one. A friend suggested that I keep a scoring blade in the old one so that it is always handy. GREAT idea! Just don't press too hard. Within minutes all of my cards were beautifully & crisply scored.
I couldn't live without mine. Before discovering the scoring blade my cards were never even. I actually use a very light touch and go back and forth a few times.
I love my scorer that fits into my fiskars cutter. Whenever I use the bone folder, it always leaves a shiny line across the top of my paper. I am not impressed with that thing at all. But I know other people who say they couldn't live without it. Personal Preference. I'll use my pampered chef scraper over a bone folder anyday.

Your Pampered Chef scraper!?! I just know eventually all of my kitchen utensils will be converted to my craft "box" and my craft stuff will be in my kitchen!

Okay, I have to admit...scoring paper was NOT the first thing I thought of when I read your thread subject line... Anyway, I love my scoring blade and find I use it quite a bit. I also love my bone folder. I have used a PC scraper before but have found that if it has any nicks in it the paper will look messy when you use it. Just my thoughts!

I hear you, Kirstin! There was a thread awhile back about this, and I was advised to put a protective sheet between the bone folder and the card...too much for me. My bone folder is now my permanent "shaving cream & ink swirling tool!"

I use this technique occasionally, but instead of using my "swirling tool," I use the tip of an embossing stylus...works great!
I could NOT live without my scoring blade. It lives on my paper cutter right beneath my orange cutting blade. I have the old model Fiskars AND the new model Fiskars and LOVE the scoring blade with both of them. Just be sure to use a light touch.

I love mine, and also could not live without it. Again, the key is to push down gently - it doesn't take much. I use mine to make all kinds of unusually opened cards (from the front, etc), boxes, puches, envelopes, or small folded items (punched cirles or squares). If you plan to get away from the typical card or scrap book page this is a must!

I don't have one, yet! But.... we both need one. I got together with my upline to do Christmas cards. I used her and it was awesome. To all you naysayers- 89 cards scored and only 3 ripped. I will have one with my next order.
I could not find my paper cutter (guess it may be time to pick up and reorganize). I was making a notepad holder and wanted to score twice-about 1/4" apart for the binding. Instead I used a ruler and my embosser. Worked like a charm.
I used the scoring blade for the first time this week to make 2-4-6-8 boxes and ornament boxes for a workshop and after I chewed up a couple pieces of paper, I started using a gentle touch and went over the paper a couple of times for a good crease. Now I know I will use it all the time. It's so cool to make your own boxes from a simple piece of cardstock. Good luck with yours.

I love 2-4-6-8 boxes. You take a half sheet of card stock and you score at 2-4-6-8 inches. Then from the bottom score 2 inches again. Here are the instructions and a great picture. I'm a visual type a girl.
I got this file from here. But I don't remember who I got it from. So whoever came up with it... THANKS. Enjoy.

I didn't say this earlier in my post, but i love my scoring blade. I just made a couple of journals and it was a MUST. I couldn't live without it.
I have the new cutter from the catty and of course the old one. Good idea to keep the scoring blade on the old one so I don't have to change them out. Have you ever meant to score and CUT instead? Not fun!!

You can probably do a search for 2-4-6-8 and find detailed instructions. I can not find mine at the moment and if I don't get back in my child's room to help her clean it, it will never get done.
