SCREAM!! (thud) Hobby Lobby is coming to Manchester, NH!!!
Burlington Coat Factory on South Willow (across from the mall) closed in January and there is now a big sign in the parking lot that HL will be moving in!
Whooo Hooo!

Yes, it is a great chain store! Not just for papercrafting, but other beautiful decor items for your home. They have lovely small furniture, shelf units, chests, tables, etc and also a great fabric/sewing dept. and needlework/yarn section. If you make jewelry there is a huge jewelry dept. too.
And at Christmas, they pull out all the stops. If you're a Christmas person you'll go crazy with all the things they have at that time of the year.
I live in Oklahoma City which is where the founder lives and started the stores. We have about 7 large Hobby Lobby stores in our metro area. Lots of fun shopping at them, plus I have all those different stores to use my 40% off coupons in!

It depends on how large it is. I've been to nice ones and dumpy ones. If it's filling all of an old BCF then that is HUGE and I'd imagine it would be really nice. It's sad for the LSS though. They won't be able to compete with the constant coupons.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really shop at AC Moore or Michaels a whole lot - they don't (at least the ones I've been to) have the most current of products. The patterned paper selection is never exciting and they don't carry the brands I like. They don't seem to have the things that you'd get a LSS. However, they are all we have in my area (the closes LSS is about an hour or so) and I do sometimes get bigger items (like my Cuttlebug, etc.) there with a coupon. For me, if I had the choice I think I'd chose the LSS - specially if it were you Kate!
hhhmmm, didn't mean for that post to sound as negative as it does now that I read it again. They definitely are fun places to shop and I sure will check out HL when I get to Manchester!
Yes, Dee, coupons, too. Usually every other week there is a 40% coupon. It comes in the Sunday paper here, but is always on the website, too. You can print multiple copies and use one per customer, per store, each day. Here is a link so you can check out the coupon and the weekly sale ad:
In case anyone is interested, here is a short press release about the history of the stores, and celebrating 40 years in business. It really is a unique business model, closed on Sundays to allow employees to go to church, and has its own minimum wage of $11 per hour for full time employees.
Lucky you! None here in Oregon yet, but they're getting closer with a new store in Boise, Idaho. I was in one in Utah last fall and I could have spent an entire day there. There are plenty of us on the west coast who would bring them tons of revenue.

Looking forward to checking it out when it opens. Working within a couple miles of a small JoAnn, an ACMoore, and a large Michael's will probably limit how often I shop there, as will their schedule, but it's nice to have another alternative now that our local shops have closed.

So true! If they would put one in San Diego, my twin and I would love it! We went to one in Michigan over 4 years ago on vacay and we STILL talk about it

I am sooooo happy to hear that!! I'm moving to the OKC area in June and have been been deprived of Hobby Lobby, Michaels and JOanns for almost 4 years!!!

Hey, that's great. Let me be the first to welcome you to my friendly state of Oklahoma! It's a wonderful place to live and have a family. When I was a kid, my dad was in the Air Force, so we moved all over the US a lot, but Oklahoma was always "home" because my parents were both born and raised here. When my dad retired, we moved back here and I've lived here ever since.
In addition to Hobby Lobbys, we have quite a few large Michaels, but only one poor, pitiful Joann store. They have a good selection of fabrics, but their papercraft aisles are sadly lacking. It's not a Joann Superstore at all.

I can't wait! I was debating going down to that show at the Raddison and was hoping they might be open by then. Sigh...I'll have to be patient I guess!

A couple of friends and I are going to the CKC Manchester on Saturday. So excited.
I'll be watching this post closely too! I probably won't be down that way until the Canadian Thanksgiving in October. I hope the buys are good. I agree with an earlier poster that says we need more craft stores such as this in Canada. Michael's doesn't really have any competition here in Canada. If only AC Moore, Joann's or a couple of others would expand to Canada.
Target is coming, and we have Walmart, but they don't carry the same stuff as the US stores. The Canadian Walmart doesn't offer online shopping either. We only have one fabric store chain, at least in Atlantic Canada (Fabricville), but they don't carry craft supplies.

Yes, the store is open now. I went in yesterday and today. Lots of fun stuff-not a whole lot of supply of each item yet, but I'm sure they are just waiting for their stock to come in fully. I bought a couple paper pads, a house mouse stamp, some CB embossing folders (which I had to return today cuz I already had that one and had forgotten). My 18 yo DD (going off to college in the fall) went with me today and there was plenty of stuff for her to ooh! and aaah! about.
