Default should I or shouldn't I??

Become a demo? I am toying with the idea of becoming a demo. I've run two other home-based businesses and burned myself out on both.
How much time do you all spend on your SU business. How much paperwork is there? How much of the paperwork is computerized?
How's the discount (now you know the REAL reason I'm toying with the idea!)
Any of you hobby-level demos? Is it worth your time?
I'm looking for all the pros and cons ... I would sure appreciate it if you would share your thoughts.. thanks!

You can put in as little or as much time as you like. You have a $300 a quarter minimum, which for some of us we can make with our own orders. You have a minimum of a 20% discount, plus another small percentage if your sales reach a certain level.
There is really very little paperwork. Almost everything can be done online.

Hope this helps....I'm sure some others will have more info.
One of my sidelines has been a demo for several years and has never had a workshop. I have a workshop at least once a quarter.

I am mostly a hobby demo, I collect a few random orders from co workers or neighbors that just love SU. If that happens I usually just add my own order to make up for the instant income and then get stuff for free that way. I can usually get my own orders to meet my minimum, it actually helps me budget better, no real effort on my part in the hobby area, and I think with just a little bit of effort I could probably earn some money, just not in my goals right now.

P.S. I was raised in Rochester, NY. I miss it! Sniff

i am a hobby demo mostly. i can pretty much meet my the minimum with my own orders. i do get other orders from friends/family. little paperwork. the website is pretty easy to navigate too.

i have not pushed my business. people know what i do and if they want to order-fine. if not-fine. but i have no regrets doing it so i can get a better deal. ;)

Do it!! It is so fun knowing all the sales and specials first! Also, the magazine 'Stampin Sucess' that demos get once a month is great! So many ideas! You can do as much or as little with the business as you want. You can kick it into high gear if you want or just have the discount for yourself.

I say go for it! It's a lot of fun!

Hi all,

I've also been thinking alot lately about becoming a demo. Can anyone tell me what happens if you don't meet the $300 minimum for the quarter?

Thanks,
Kim

If you don't meet the $300 minimum during a quarter, you go on pending for the next month. If you don't put in orders totaling $100 plus what you were short the last quarter, you are dropped. For instance, lets say in Jan-Feb-Mar you sell $250 in merchandise. You are then on pending in April. In April you have to place at least $150 in sales ($50 to make up the difference from the 1st quarter, plus $100).

Hope that helps!

I wasn't raised here but I love it here and want to stay (as I keep mentioning to my husband whose job could take us just about anywhere!) Rochester is a great little city with a lot to offer for it's size.

It still surprises me how small the discount is with these direct sales companies. 20% is nice but not huge. It was the same with the Pampered Chef.
