Do you make your own skittles? I see so many different sizes and colors, I was just curious. If you don't make them, where do you get them? I have some that I found a lonnng time ago and Michael's in a small size but they don't seem to have them anymore. I would like some smaller ones but never know where to find them. Thanks.
Skittles...same as dew drops right? I get mine from Ucutathome looks under products Robin's Nest...also there is another site www.scrappersmusthaves.com
Hi Lynn, they are embellishments that are round and have a flat bottom. I am sure you have seen them, they are probably called something else, I heard of that name a while back and just continue to call them that.
Thanks Martha, I think I have seen that post somewhere I just can't remember where. Have you ever made them? Are they a pain in the butt to do?
hahah! It's ok Elizabeth, I am glad to have the link, I am going to check them out. It's almost the first of the month, so maybe if they aren't to much and have different sizes, I can get some! I'd like to try and make some too, but need to find that link and see if others have made them and how difficult they are to make! Thanks hun!!
Yes, I bought some of the clear and yellow ones a long time ago at Michael's but now, I have no idea where to find them.
To those that make your own, if you don't have a non stick craft sheet what do you put them on to let them cool? Would wax paper work?
What about some parchment paper? I haven't tried making them myself but it seems that if you put hot glue on wax paper it might transfer the wax onto something that you wanted to keep clear. I have heard of some people making them from crystal effects, but I can't seem to find the link at the moment
Oh, that was one of my kids' fave candies when they were little - lol!

I make my own with hot glue, and don't use either wax or parchment paper..maybe I'm doing it wrong! But I like the results. What I do is make tiny 'drips' or hot glue on colored paper and then when they dry, I cut them out. Sounds like it takes more time than it does, it really goes quick. The paper under the glue gives the skittle whatever color I want it to be and makes it so I can layer it on another color without compromising the color I wanted it to be.
i buy them from the floral dept. They come in large bags, much cheaper than I have every seen them online. Then I used alcohol inks to die my own custom colors. Best to put a handful in a small baggie with a few drops of ink then shake the bag. Pour them out onto a napkin and allow them to dry (only takes a minute or two)
Ours are in the area where they have all the marbles and rocks for filling up the vases. There's also a large baggie of clear acyllic pebbles that people call skittles. Must be thousands in there for $3.99
Yes, I have looked in ours before and they have these odd shaped ones that are big or they have the pebbles and rocks. I will look again when I'm over that way and see if they've gotten them in.
I am going to try my hand at some right now to see what comes of it! I'll let ya'll know!
how big are the skittles in relationship to dew drops - if they are the flat glass balls we have at our Mike's they are pretty heavy and kind of big for a card or are they actually skittle candy size?
I am sure they are the same things as the dew drops, the skittles aren't heavy at all and pretty small. I think the ones I have had before are a tad bit bigger then the smiley faces on the right hand side here.
I just talked to my sister who lives in Colorado Springs, CO and she said that she bought some today at Michael's. They were in the scrapbook section. They are about the size of the dew drops and have a flat bottom and rounded top. They are called acrylic disks mini. Each package contains 12 ounces for $5.99 and the item number is #72079.
I call them dew drops. I believe they are the same thing. I get mine on e bay for like a $1.00 a package plus shipping. I bought like 10 packages and with shipping it wasn't to bad. I'll have to try looking at Walmart to see if they have something I can custom make my own. I tried making them myself and lets just say I fed the garbage can.

I have some skittles that I love and use a lot but I've also made my own dew drops so I can match colors to my cards when needed. It's a lot cheaper then buying a small bottle of dew drops ~ a little spendy for the amount you get.
Here's a link to The Frugal Crafter's blog so you can make your own dew drops! It's easy and pretty fun.
I wouldn't recommend using wax paper though. I found that the glue drops are a bear to get off the paper! I use the the rubber mats for hot glue guns so they glue doesn't stick.

I make mine!!! With tiny drops of hot glue and I have a tutorail here: http://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.co...own-dew-drops/ and if you color them with alcohol ink they look just like skittles and dew drops but if you dust them with pearl ex they look like pearls. Here are pics, enjoy!

Hi ladies, thank you so much for all your help. I have made some and I used some alcohol inks but they seem to have spots like where some of the ink dried on there, how do you get yours vibrant with color?
I used a high temp as I don't know if low would heat up high enough to stop the stringing. You could email her and ask.
does anybody know if "thefrugalcrafter" is using a low temp or high temp glue gun?
Thanks!
High temp;) If the glue is stringy pop the glue sticks in the freezer for an hour or so til you are ready to use them. I craft in my cool basement so the cool temp keeps them from getting stringy but you want a high temp gun or an adjustable set to high.

I picked up a bag at Mike's (flora dept) and colored as you said. Super easy and they look great. I'm making some to give to my stmp club as a treat. Thanks so much
