Wink So excited! But a dilemma...

Background : So a new Michael's opens up near my place. I go on the opening day and finish my shopping... They had a draw going on and I almost never enter my name in draws bcoz I never win :( So my husband insists & we go enter our names.

Fast forward 3 weeks later to today on my b'day (ya, HB to me, lol). He gives me a gift card & guess what? DH won $200 grand prize gift card at Mikes!!!! Told ya, I never win anything! I'm super excited!!!

Dilemma - The GC has to be used only once and only in Canadian stores. I don't know what to get... I was at the store even last night with 2 bonus coupons in hand but didn't get anything.

I have surplus stock of albums, stickers, embellishments you name it... Stamp collection at M totally sucks. I already have all the cuttlebug dies and folders that I like except for the alphabets. The alphas are like $110 plus 14% tax. I don't wanna buy them at Mike when I can get them much cheaper on ebay. Plus I'm going to Buffalo 2maro and I have 50% coupon for Joann.

So the only stuff I don't have are the cuttlebug alphas & cricut. Should I indulge in a cricut? I've never had any plans of owning one though.
What r u thoughts girls? I need suggestions as what I shld get.

Another thought on a pricey item that you might not otherwise get is an Ott light (true color light). Otherwise, I would splurge on cuttlebug alphas. You can never have too many alphas. I know you can get them cheaper elsewhere, but the are FREE!!!

PS - Happy Birthday to you!!

I know what I'd do with $200 for Mike's! I'd get a bunch of Prismacolor markers.

I think if you will use the Cuttlebug alphas then that would be a good buy.

Happy Birthday to you. What a great present. Sorry I don't have any good suggestions. I would be having the same dilemma as you. I know exactly what I want to spend money on when I don't have any but as soon as I do, I get really tight fisted with it. Good luck!

Never thought of Prisma markers... Hope my never-in-stock Mike has them. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just curious why you can only use it once? Will they give you change if you don't consume the entire $200? If worse comes to worst and you have kids, nieces, nephews, etc, you can get toys or crafts for presents.

I love ribbon! I can always use a polka or gingham in all colors, and varying widths. They also have some fun patterned or stripe ribbons. And the ribbons in the Martha Stewart collection are great quality.
Prismacolor pencils or markers
Beads
Adhesives

Oh, I never thought about the CRICUT- its out of my price range, but with your gift certificate, you could go for that. I'll bet if you posted a thread in the tools asking about that machine you'll get lots of feedback.

What's their return policy? If you don't decide on a large item, maybe you could buy a lot of other "stock" that you might need and return it a little at a time in exchange for whatever comes up. Just a thought...can't believe they are making you spend all that at once! I like the idea of gifts...Christmas shopping early!

Happy Birthday and Congrats! What about getting some tins/pails, paper gift bags, frames, etc. to alter and embellish? I know my Mike's has a good supply of that stuff. I also second the ribbon suggestion too. Some other things that come to mind if I were in your place would be some more Staz-on pads, mega container of Modge Podge, adhesive refills, and some more stipple brushes. Happy shopping!

I won a gift card of $50.00 from a new Michael's store and I could use it just as if I had bought it. Too bad they changed the rules. I see you have lots of ideas of what to buy. Enjoy your shopping trip and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

What about buying other types of stuff? My M's always has gorgeous silk flowers or cute holiday decorations for the house. Or maybe stock up on items that you could use for gifts in the future. Maybe some Christmas presents?

I'd say go for the cuttlebug dies. They are free with the certificate!!!!!!!! Can you use a 40% off coupon? Go for it. I, too, wish I had your problem. I'd get my son's pictures of Juno Beach framed.

Do you have any artwork to be framed? That's what I'd do, but we seem to always have things that need framing.

I would buy myself the whole set of Prismacolor pencils and some gamsol and ribbon.. they have lots of fun ribbon.. or the Prismacolor markers..

unfortunately Mike's isn't online like Joann's so you can't use it there.. which is silly.. I say!

Thank guys for your wishes!

Nope, have no kids. Mike's not an appropriate place to buy gifts for the people in my life.

I should have mentioned that I'm a ribbon junkie and have almost all the possible ribbons out there in Mike's, LOL.

I'm leaning towards Cricut, cuttlebug alphas or Prisma markers. I'm leaning towards big ticket item bcoz I'm too cheap to buy them myself (well, if I add up my monthly purchases, it would be greater but I can't plonk that kind of cash for just 1 item, KWIM).

In the meanwhile, keep the ideas coming.

SDiegoGal : Yep, itz mentioned on the GC that it is only one time use.

What's the expiration date on the card? I might be inclined to hold off and see what new things come out closer to Christmas. By October-November, you might have used up some of your own stash and be ready for a pre-Christmas treat for yourself!

Happy Birthday! And congrats on the gc! My vote is for something you wouldn't ordinarily buy yourself - like the cricut. Or I might look at some of the Martha Stewart storage - I absolutely love her paper boxes/drawers, but I certainly wouldn't spend that kind of money on them! However, if I had a gc that I won, I'd do something totally outrageous with it.

You could get some non-stamping stuff for your house or something. My Mikes always has cute wall decor and baskets and silk plants, etc.

If I were that lucky, think I would buy expensive paper, alphas maybe, a large set of really good watercolor crayons(my fav way of coloring images) By all means check out the Martha Stewart punches if you like punches. I must get to M. Happy Birthday

i could easily spend $200 on just ribbon...

you could get some items to be altered for future gifts.

you could get some thing to help organize your space.

replacement blades for your paper cutter, an extra set of B plates for your cuttlebug, stickles, versamark ink, tape runners, EP, punches...

have fun and good luck!

I would use a coupon for the CB alphas and go for more ribbon and embellishments if I needed to use it now. Otherwise I would wait until Sept/Oct and see what other things come out that you might have to have...maybe Martha will have more things
