I belong to a few swap groups and over the years have swapped many cards and now I have two boxes filled with cards not doing what they should be doing which is making people happy. I dont use them when I need a card because I'm a cardmaker and want to make cards that I need myself. Several years ago I sent some cards to the military but I felt bad about it because they were other peoples swaps to me. Anyone have any ideas about this?
Donate them (ONLY the ones with NO glitter!) to From Our Hearts who will send them to the troops to send home. The troops are SO pleased to received cards made by anyone so do NOT feel guilty about using swaps. Pass them on to bring joy to military families. I collect swaps from my friends, friends and I turn them into cards, and then ship them to From Our Hearts. The organization was started by my friend's mom when the son/brother was deployed multiple times.

Do they accept any size cards and do we need to send out envelopes for them? I make alot of 5x7 cards and have plenty that I can donate to them. I was sending them out to another organization but now they prefer A2 cards with envelopes.

5x7 is fine especially if you include envelopes. They do like A2 best. Biggest thing is NO glitter because it can be seen by night vision goggles if it gets on their uniforms.

I agree with the other posters too, don't feel bad about donating anything to a good cause. I have 6 boxes of cards that I don't use but like to save for the ideas.
Now I have my card front pictures sorted on my computer it is much easier to go through those than pulling down the boxes and looking at each card one by one. I have really been in a card making mood this last month, maybe I will make all those into cards and donate them. I will get the best of both worlds, make some cards and make someone else happy.
If you have a Ronald McDonald House near you, they also take all types of cards and envies. I put the cards and envies in plastic sleeves and drop off a box full every few months. They especially like holiday cards a few weeks before Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter, etc. They can be for kids or adults for the families who stay there to use.
I also donate some cards and envies to local nursing homes or Senior Centers--they too love to send them and many times have an area where they have some type of display.
And October is coming up. You can send them to MD Anderson Cancer Center. Check out the Hope You Can Cling To forums. I don't know if they take cards year round or not but they definitely do in October.
Should the cards have a sentiment stamped inside or is it o.k. to leave it blank? sometimes I think someone may not like the sentiment I picked, but the art of writing a note seems to be dead.

Blank should be fine, especially if they are for the troop....more room to write a long note home! If the card base is dark, the inside of the card needs to have a white/light colored layer/lining so the writing can be seen. For that it is OK to use copy paper or other lightweight plain paper.
Where can cards be sent to From Our Hearts? I could not find a mailing address to do this. Thank you. If there are other organizations that desire cards, please let me know.
Operation Write Home is a great group that will send your cards to soldiers. I don't know how to post a link so just Google the name. You can see all the details there.
You can donate it to Operation Write Home. Check out their FB page for more details. I think glitter cards are not accepted. https://www.facebook.com/opwritehome

Here is the link to FOH's blog. The address is on the side.
I make cards for local pregnancy center - they love them! If you have something like that in your area....or your local Ronald McDonald House or some other organization in your area....even nursing homes or something like that.
If anyone has baby cards (or Thank You, Birthday, or Praying For You) - our pregnancy center would love them!

I send 2 to 3 boxes a year w/ close to 200 cards each to Operation Write Home but CardMaker magazine has a section w/ many different organizations listed. Just look at their website. I don't think you have to have a subscription to view that part. I need to check that out myself so I can use some glitter.
