My 5-year-old niece thinks I'm a totally cool aunt because I do "arts and crafts" like she does at her school. I'm going to be seeing her in February. Each time I talk to her on the phone she is begging me to bring some of my arts & crafts stuff to do with her. Does anyone have any ideas of projects I can do with her?
I bought her some big simple stamps at Mikes and some child-safe ink pads. I've got stickers and other embellishments and I'll bring some old DP I don't use any more, and some old colored pencils. I don't want to do cards. My mom made a picture frame with her in December. And when I was there at Thanksgiving I helped her paint and decorate a plain wooden jewelry box.
Anyone have any ideas? thanks!

I bought my daughter a coil scrapbook (very cheap one) when she was 4. She's now almost 6 and still makes scrapbook pages. She loves it! I give her doubles of old pics of her and her brother, dad, etc. She decorates the page a little, adds the photos, then decorates some more. Then she asks me how to spell what she wants to write beside the pic.

The web site: familyfun.com has some great ideas organized by age, holiday, craft style, etc... I always get some new and different ideas from there that my 6 yo daughter can do with stuff that I already have...
If you don't want to do cards you can have her start a scrapbook. My kids love to make layouts. They use my stamps, inks, EP, glitter, etc. Every once in a while I'll have a few of their friends over and I take out all my stuff. They go wild. I've even been told that I'm the coolest mom ;)
The lunch bag scrapbooks are easy for kids. I just used two lunch bag, which is 8 pages + 2 pockets. Just have her have some pictures ready and then she'll can just glue a square piece of cardstock to each page and put a picture on each one. My grandkids 6, 8, and 12 loved doing these. Maybe use some stickers from a scrappin' kit as well.
Why not try the molded toilet tissue trick using a rubber stamp (turned upsidedown)- watered down white glue - a brush and approx 6 squares of toilet tissue. This was on a thread about a year ago here and I am sure there are probably pictures in the gallery also. The kids like to slap them on a window so they can dry in the sun!! Messy but a hoot! After they dry the kids can add them to cardstock, colour them with markers, or chalks or glitter them to death especially if they do snowflakes.
Thanks. these are all great ideas. I'll check out familyfun.com. this was very helpful! I knew I could get good ideas from all my crafty SCS friends.
