Default Stamping in the jury room

What would you take and how would you package it?

I've been called for jury duty soon and know there will be lots of waiting time. Of course, I could take a book, but this seems like an opportunity to take stamping to work on in the "lounge" while waiting to be called. Whatever I take has to get through security check and also be fast to put away and pick up when my name is called. I don't remember from my last time several years ago if there are tables or if I will have to work on my lap.

I would love to hear your ideas. Do you stamp in waiting rooms, parks, or other places outside of your home? How do you manage? Thanks.
Betty

you could pre stamp items that need coloring and take either watercolor pencils and blender pens or markers. You wouldn't want to take any cutting tools as they might be considered weapons.

If you want to stamp, I would bring the spots. Intead of the stampin scrub to clean, I would bring a small pack of baby wipes. I would have the card stock already cut down to size. Sounds like you will have a lot of free time to create. Have fun.

Default Weirdest place you've ever stamped!

I once stamped in the airport.... I even had my cutter in my backpack. I just put all of my stuff on the chair, hopped on the floor and stamped my little heart out! LOL (I am only 21, so I'm not so smart and probably shouldn't have sat on the floor, but I did achieve what I wanted to!) I would agree with the other ladies, pre-cut your paper or stamp images and color them while waiting!

P.S. What's the weirdest place you've ever stamped?

I did this last time I was called for jury duty! I pre-stamped the images at home, and colored using colored pencils. I had a bunch done for swaps for convention!

I sometimes take some things to doctors appointments and things. What I do is go with one or two precut ideas ready to go (this is a great time to work on a set of cards like valentines, Easter cards, birthday invites or Christmas cards). If I'm not coloring, I'll often do a card that limits me to three or four colors without any embossing. I would also stay away from scissors since that may be a security issue. A small backpack, or the little 12 X 12 bag from SU is great! I like the idea of doing a two step stamp project because that may inspire interest if you are demonstrator - if so, be sure you have a couple of mini's with your name and number on them. Bring mono, bone folder, ribbon, etc, and assemble your cards there. As for a stamping surface, you can always call ahead to find out if there will be a table - if not, get one of the small bean-bag backed lap table for kids.

Hope it works out well!

I keep a bag and a Cropper Hopper packed at all times. It seems as if I am at a doctor's appt, hospital, orthodontist, dentist, etc. all the time. I make sure I have a paper trimmer in my bag - those go thru security fine. I keep cardstock and other items I don't want crunched in my Cropper Hopper - along with pads, etc.

I had to do a 2 hour Glucose test a couple of weeks ago and had to sit there for two and a half hours. I just brought everything with me to design and reproduce a card for my Stampers 10 group (which I got the sample off splitcoaststampers, thank you very much). Some people looked at me kind of different, but the man doing the 3 hour test sitting next to me thought that I was a genius.

My son had surgery and a couple of days later my husband had surgery, then he had to go back to the emergency room a couple of days later (for 11 hours of testing) and then have more surgery the next week. You know I took my little "bags of goodies" with me every time. It kept me from going crazy. And I even put eyelets in my 20 swap cards while I was there. I just took my tool kit and sate in the corner of the room, on the floor, and put them puppies in! Yes, I know I'm a little crazy - what can I say.

Default Jury room stamping

StampingGrandma - I am in the same situation as you - jury duty for the month of Feb. I, too, have been contemplating what to take for a project that will pass through security and that can be worked on fairly discreetly.
I think I finally settled on prestamping a bunch of flower type images that can be watercolored. I will probably take limited selection of WC pencils (I have one of those huge sets in the metal containers), some template plastic to scribble colors on, and an aqua blender (even though I really prefer a nice brush and water). Have to get busy and stamp so that it's packed and ready to go Mon. a.m.
Let's be one of those in the jury room who is happily occupied while everyone else is grumbling about being there!

Just an idea...there was a post recently about a storage case from Target's dollar spot.
You could store your supplies inside and use the top for a work surface.

Default traveling stamp stuff

Melissa,
Thanks for the reminder about the Target document case - I have a friend of mine stalking every Target in Boise Id trying to find even one of these - no luck so far, but the hunt continues.
You're right, that case would be perfect to load for jury duty - compact but big enough for full size paper with room for selected supplies....do you think there's a possiblity they would let me reschedule my time on jury duty for when I actually have one of these cases in my possession?
...just a thought...

Ask an employee to search a backroom location for this number for the document box: 234 17 0549. The way that area works is if a spot on the shelf goes empty, the employees put something else in its spot. Then if the item comes in, the spot may be full so the box goes back to the backroom. That's not how the rest of the store is normally, but that $1.00 stuff is different. And sadly the $1.00 stuff changes often so we may never see those document boxes again!

Default post subject & document boxes

I agree with everyone who said to have your cardstock precut and even
already stamped, so you can color them in.
On the subject of the $1 Document Boxes @ Target...GOOD LUCK! I have
made the rounds to the 4 closest stores..found 2 and 1 was broken. I have
also called all those stores back & none have gotten more in. Today I cal-
led about 4 more stores spreading the search further. Two of those stores
did not have any more. At the 3rd store I got an employee who went way
above and beyond to try & help me, giving me more store phone numbers
along with info of their supposed inventories on this item, based on her
computer check of the SKU number. Even though I didn't actually locate
any more of the boxes yet I sure did appreciate the lady who spent so much time trying to help me.

I have jury duty too! I'll be stuck for the whole month, so thanks for the idea to stamp while waiting - and there's a lot of waiting time. I did get into a conversation with one of my fellow jurors about stamping. She used to do it, but hadn't heard of SU. So I invited her to my next workshop - maybe I'll get a new customer. Especially if I start stamping in the jury room. Just have to be ready to put it away at a moment's notice!

Good ideas. Thanks. I knew you would have them. Hmmm, I just may have to order the 12x12 bag or the Cropper Hopper.
A month on jury duty? Are you on a case? We are scheduled for just two weeks unless we get on a case that goes over. However, I did serve on jury duty in the 70's and finally asked to be excused after six weeks. I still had a young family and was going to school as well. We had to be there every day all day. This system works so much better. We call in each evening to see if our group is scheduled for the next day if we aren't on a case.
Now, I'd better get plannin' and stampin'

Yes, I'm an alternate for a trial that's supposed to last between 5 and 6 weeks. We'll be in week 3 next week. But so far we've had a couple of days off and have been let out early most afternoons. So it hasn't been too bad. Stamping will make it better!

This may sound crazy, but I usually bring my cutter and paper. I sit in the office and zip zip zip, before you know it I have a huge stack of white and vanilla card stock cut into card size. Then zip zip zip they are all scored and ready to make cards out of. You can do this right on your lap. I even do it in the car on long trips! (CUT CARD STOCK! lol)

There is a case available in the school and office supply section of Wallyworld. Clipboard front, closeable case, with a clear pocket divider (to hold paper) in the middle, and divided section in the back portion, a little more than an inch high, underneath the divider. It's big enough to hold two sets of spots and a dozen or more fairly small stamps. The long narrow divided section at the bottom hold a small scrubby pad (half of a paint edger refill), and a dry washcloth. I moisten the scrubby pad with a capful of water from my waterbottle wherever I am, and I'm ready to stamp! There's also room for a blender pen and aquapainter. I keep a little scrap paper, a few pre-cut plain white and ivory cards, and a stack of trading-card size cards (to be made into card fronts later) in the divider, as well as some pre-stamped, ready to water-color images. I use this anytime I'm going anywhere! I've used it in airports, airplanes, in the van, at friend's houses, in doctor's offices, any place I might have to just sit for any length of time, and wish I had something more fun to do!

Default Jury Room stamping

Cindy,
Thanks for the heads up on the case at Walmart -- there's a pretty good chance I can find one there. It sounds like the perfect take-a-llitle-bit-of-everything-with-you case -- the clipboard on top would be really handy to hold the paper in place when watercoloring on your lap....
Hope I can find it before Monday - it would be just what I need!
