Have any of you bloggers had this happen to you. I was slowly climbing up the ranks of the Stamping Top 50 site, had reached 121, and then the link from my blog just went inactive. When I re-established it, I had lost my previous ranking. I finally got back up to 182 and lost it again. I e-mailed Stampin Top 50 and got no response.
Yup - this has happened to me at least twice. Not sure why. I switched my ranking to private so I don't even see the number anymore, but it is annoying when I just disappear from the rankings completely.

Just out of curiousity, did this happen to you after posting something with the word "vote" in it? I know their email when you register says something about "vote for me" stuff not being allowed, so I'm wondering if it just kicks you out when you post anything with the word "vote". It could even just be a reminder post to go "vote" in an election (or even one of those silly/fun blog polls) - nothing to do with the type of "vote" that they mean in their email.

I posted something on my blog about my daughter winning the BONGO jeans modeling contest and explained about how people voted, etc... and that didn't happen to me so that might not be it.
But one day, I got tons of comments on something I posted and it said all day that I only got 1 hit. LOL! So, I think it's not really that accurate.
As far as dropping in ranking, sometimes a couple new sites jump on board and they are bigger stamping stores, etc... and they jump up higher in the ranking and you move down a few for "no apparent reason," but that's why.
And, if you have a higher number in the mid 100's or so, those tend to move around a lot because of new blogs joining.
I'm not really sure how valubale the whole ranking thing is other than to check it to see if anyone is really reading it. (That's why I check. Just want to make sure I'm not talking to myself. LOL!)
Hugs,
Gina K.

Well, I guess I'm wondering why I even include the link because it's caused me more frustration. It is encouraging to see the ranking go up, but then its so frustrating to watch it fall off all together and have to start all over. Not good either that there just seems to be no tech support. Well . . . I guess I don't pay anything for it, so I'm getting what I pay for.
Happened to me, too. VERY frustrating! I don't think I had VOTE in my post, either, but I was at 85, then had to start over completely. I still am only at 103. I didn't get any responce, either to my email OR phone call. Sorry!
Yup happened to me sooo annoying, I got down to about 135 and then it disappeared, reregistered and am now in the 200's why I don't know and no nobody has ever got back to me with why, not impressed, prefer my UK version of it, I am somewhere like 22!!! he he liking that

LOL! I feel better now. But doesn't that make sense? It takes lots of time to have a blog and if nobody ever stops by, well that's like cleaning the house if no one's coming over. (Just kidding, LOL!) Thanks for the support! You're a sweetie.:-D

I haven't had that problem (yet), but I do have another question along the same lines, if you don't mind. How do you get the # to show on your site? All I get on my sites is the little box...no numbers.

If you go into your stampingtop50 account, you should be able to switch it to public or private. If you switch it to public, it should show the number (might have to give it a day or so to see it though).
Ah, ok. I had it set to private and then changed it and it didn't show so I changed it back. I didn't realize it wouldn't be automatic. Thanks so much for your help
Bumping back up again. This has just happened to me again, twice now, and I haven't received responses to my emails either. I think this time I'm not going to re-register and remove the darn thing from my sidebar. I know people visit my site and this is becoming a nuisance.
ya.. .that stamping top 50 is so NOT accurate. I have 2 blogs on there and Craft Critique has WAY more daily readers than my personal blog... it really makes no sense... I often wonder why I keep the links... I never get traffic from them... it's truly out of laziness that I keep them on my sidebar!
I'm glad I'm not alone in this. I finally made it to 140 or so and was kicked out about a month ago. I re-registered but had to start over at 400 something. Now I'm in the low 200s.
I know I shouldn't care about the numbers, but it's kind of cool to see them going down. To start over was disheartening. If it happens again, I won't resign up.
From the sounds of it...it would not be surprising if I had my numbers disappear at some point :(
I'm with a lot of you...I love seeing the numbers change b/c then I know I'm getting lots of visitors. If I went by the amount of feedback, I'd think no one read my blog and that would be very discouraging, for sure.
I'm glad I read this so when I disappear from the rankings I'll know it's typical! LOL! I've been on it for almost a month. I think I'm 164. Guess I'll get kicked off soon. :p
I thought I was the only one this happened to!! I was working my way down and had to re-register and it added about 200 points - I'm still nowhere near where I was.
As near as I can tell the rank is based on how many total "hits" your blog receives since the time of your registration. So for anyone who has to re-register, even if your blog is super popular an gets lots of daily hits, it still will take you a while to get the numbers up to the level that they were before you dropped off.
For some of us bloggers whose blogs are not that popular and don't get thousands of daily hits, it takes a while to claw our way up (not that I'm complaining -- I'm thrilled that my readers come back to read the blog day after day and wouldn't trade their loyalty for thousands of hits). I still remember how excited I was when I first broke 200! Now I finally managed to inch into the top 100 and I would be really sad if I had to start from scratch. I think like the rest of you, if that were to happen I would just not bother.
As far as not getting back any responses from the site, why doesn't someone try contacting them pretending to want to place an ad? I bet they would respond to that -- LOL!
Can someone answer this question? How come you choose to use Stamping Top 50 as a blog counter instead of just loading a counter widget? I'm new to the blogging world, and I'm just trying to learn what's what. Thanks!

Hello ladies,
I recently did the top 50 thing and yesterday my number dropped significantly so I went out to their web site and the number on my top 50 widget was higher than the amount of sites that they had listed. According to them my number was actually lower than what my widget said! LOL! I am so glad I found this thread today. I am also asking anyone interested in having their blog linked to mine to leave a message on my blog post titled adding favorite blog links. It will save me time and number of windows open to try and get my blog linked up. Thanks for the info.
Ummm.... does anyone just use stat counter? It tallies the actual number of people who visit your sites. New visitors, returning and the page loads.
Frankly - I don't care where I "rate" in the stamping top 50. Honestly I mostly blog fo myself, because it makes me try new stuff and articulate what I'm thinking. Having said that, it is nice to know "somebody" (even if it it just my Mom!) is reading. Statcounter works just fine to give me that assurance.

That's what I use, too. I know I've read about a number of issues with the Top 50 thing, and several people were hypothesizing that they don't really care about the technical glitches, as it causes people to come back to their site. Which then inflates THEIR hits, making them more attractive to advertisers. I don't know whether that's true, but I do know that I've heard a *lot* of complaints.
I have a regular counter that does the overall counts and then I found one that does it by city as well. I didn't know how you guys even got the "top 50" or similar buttons. I assumed someone sent them to you when you actually reached some magical number in blogdom land! ;-) I didn't realize it was something you had to sign up for. I'll stick to my counters since it seems like everyone is having issues with the "top xx" ones.
On another blogging issue, I had sent an email about 2 months ago trying to get on the SCS bloggers list and never got a response. So I emailed again a couple days ago. Today I got a response from Michelle that from now on out there are rules - a $10 donation to her favorite charity is required to get listed. So, I'm not joining. I don't think it's fair that it's "as of today" so all those other people (myself included if it'd been responded to 2 months ago) are listed for free but anyone new it's going to cost.
I've had problems with mine too...and I really have no understanding as to why it happened. My blog isn't too popular (when comparing to some of you phenoms on here!!), but I was proud when it got to the low 200's. It disappeared, I emailed StampingTop50 and didn't receive a response (why on earth do they even have a "contact us" logo if they aren't going to respond to anything??), so I re-registered and started out at 350!! I think I've managed to claw up to 347. Woopeee!!!
If it goes down again, I'm just taking it off my blog. I have a counter that says how many are visiting, and I have where people can sign up to receive updates from my blog, so I really don't care if I have a top50 ranking. I highly doubt I'll ever get up into the top 50....so here's to just blogging for fun!! :-)

This also happened to me and no it is not fair and yes I donate a good deal of money and time to charities but prefer to be able to choose my these charities for myself. I like blogging a lot but do not need a logo under these circumstances.
