I am wondering if I am the only one. Since I have gone unmounted, it is just so easy to cut stamps into extra pieces to make them easier to use. I have cut the stems and leaves off flowers. I have cut out elements to make them optional. My Heartfelt set is in 15 pieces and I love it that way. I am thinking of cutting up "Oh So Sweet" but am not sure if this will work. I always cut off the sentiments and even cut them up. I am thinking of cutting up the Trees Three sentiment so that the "May you find joy" part is a stamp in itself. If any of you have done this, please tell us which sets you prefer cut up into more stamps than the set came with.
Oh, yes, I have unmounted and cut up many a wheel!
I cut the flowers in Both Way Blossoms in half, they wouldn't fit in the cd holder if they were left long, and I would never use them the long way either. Other than images with words, I don't think I would cut many others apart. If I want different colors on diffenent parts, I can ink them up separately with markers.

I can honestly (or embarrasingly) say that I have never even thought of doing that!! I'm sure if I went through my stamps I would find a lot that I could do that with and it would make them much more versatile!
A Little Love because I like using the words on their own with other images too, and also the row of mugs from Espress Yourself. I use them more this way. Most of my stamps are now unmounted and I find it makes the sets a lot more versatile.

I have cut up Art of Life (flower and stem) and also Happy Harmony (separated the 3 flowers from the stems). I also have separated sentiments, for instance, with Love Ya Bunches. I don't have Oh So Sweet so I can't comment on that one. None of mine are unmounted either.

I spend this morning cutting up some Michael's stamps. With some of them I did not love the image but I loved the frame around it so I cut out the image and now have some really cute circle frames to go with my circle images!
hi, i dont usually do it...however, recently, with stamps that have enough space under the picture, and have a sentiment under them, i now cut the wording off, and mount it on the side of the wood block, that way you can still put the stickers on the block!!
I did it with the please be seated set. i wanted the sentiment to appear somehwere else on the card i was making....and with the saying on the side, it was so much easier to do, plus it enables you to use the ink pad for it and not have to color it in with markers, all the time.
looks like this would work with very punny too, but im not sure on how much space is between the picture and the sentiment.
Love to separate my images, too, whenever possible, to yield maximum versatility.
BTW, I cut through one of my Rhonna Farrer clear stamps (to remove the center of a large blossom, so that I could ink them separately in different colors) with an Xacto knife and it was sooooooo easy! I dunno why I didn't anticipate that, but it was like slicing through jello, the way the blade went! This opens up a lot of possibilities! :-D
Woweeeeeeee!!!

The ones I can think of right away are Word by Word, the sewing jumbo wheel, Friend to Friend, Little Hellos, DD Fresh Fruits . . . . that is all that comes to mind. The first two sets I mentioned became unmounted, the last three are wood mounted.

I have separated quite a few also. What is nice about separating and unmounting or separating clear stamps is you can put them back together (the way they were intended) soooo easily. OR combine them with "other" stamps. Having them separated creates much more versatility.

What a fab idea!!! I regularly separate words from stamps, but never occured to me to cut the center from a flower - and it makes good sense. Thanks for opening my mind to the possibilities - off to cut some "jello"!;)
I cut away all the words in English. Most of the cards I make are for French-speakers, so they (and I) wouldn't appreciate the English sayings anyhow. Before, I used to just throw them away! But now I mount them on the side.
I have cut up quite a few also. I have access to a scroll saw so sometimes I'll cut the wood block down. So the words are separate from the image, but can still be used together. I have done this with fun filled (candle/make a wish and bow/for you), separated the holiday sentiment from Loads of love into two blocks, completely cut up my word by word and mounted all on wood. I even went in and cut off the frame around some of the words on this set as well. I use some stamps more because of this!

My stamps are usually so cut up you don't recognize them. Now, I must admit that I didn't even think about it for Oh So Sweet - I think because I've always just used markers and I think I'd be too scared that I wouldn't stamp them properly (I don't use the stampamajig....too much effort *for me*).
When I unmount, I also remove the cushion, so I only have rubber left. This makes it so much easier to cut things apart. I will use an exacto knife to get into those tight spaces. And so far, no accidents

Hmmm....so I went looking at mine to see some of the 'worst' and it seems like words and stems/leaves are definite happenings, but otherwise, I don't cut very often. (I do have some sentiment stamps where each word is separate.)
I did cut up the chocolate chip background from Oh So Sweet so that I had one chip by itself which I use to fill in gaps made when making a background. And I did cut the bird off the cat/branch stamp in "Hang In There". And finally, (probably the most atrocious act to some ;) ) I gouged the eyes from the sideways looking frog in Unfrogrettable (it has given me much more freedom to give him whatever expression I want). And I recently got a non-SU flourish frame set that I cut apart so I could make my own frames.
If I am going to watercolor an image and want to stamp in staz-on, then I sometimes will perform surgery (especially if I'm making more than one of the card).
