Default Storing stamps

I've just heard that you should store your stamp sets on end---not on top of each other. Is that right? How do you organize that in the most space-saving, easy-to-get-to way?

I store my stamp cases on end. It works for me. I have them in bins on the wall. You can see it in my gallery -
www.splitcoaststampers.com/go/shell . I love the way my stamps are stored.

This is how I store mine. (see attached picture) I bought these at Menards. They're made by Rubbermaid and are generally used to store pantry goods. They hold many of the various sizes of stamp cases SU makes and many others as well. I organize mine by the size of the container and company. As you can see mine are standing on end. The fit great. Since this isn't a recent picture, I don't have all of my stamp sets shown. I have taken over the entire other side and have needed to reorganize my scrapping supplies elsewhere. They took about 30 minutes for DH to install, too. Hope this helps.

This may sound like a dumb question, but "why" should you store the stamps on end? I know there is a logical answer to this, but I cannot come up with it right now because my brain is fried after studying for my exam tomorrow morning...

Mary - I got neater once I got my Haven the way that I wanted it. It gave me motivation to clean up after each project session. You should have seen it before!!!! Almost all of that stuff was ON the tables. LOL!!

I hope you find what works for you. There are so many options out there now. Good luck!

Kimberly,
My client said that the stamps lying flat will eventually "flatten out" from the weight of being stacked. I don't know but now I worry! Oh, the worries of having so many! Ha!

this is my first time posting, but this was of interest to me.
I have heard this for stamps that are not in cases. Ours of course are in a case and I looked at my stacks carefully but none of them are getting any pressure on them so I won't worry. I have a new stamping room and I will post the photos shortly...[/quote]

well i'm gonna be one of the oddballs because mine are stored in cd cases and stored alphabetically in a tower...i recently switched most of my SU sets over to cling foam and now use them with acrylic blocks...i love it tho! i had no choice tho because right now fiance and i live in a very tiny apartment and my stamping space isn't very big...so this saves me a ton of room!! :P

kraftimom- I LUV the colors of your room! I have the exact opposite in my dining room. (red on walls with yellow trim) I like the knobs, too!

Tracey- I tried doing my TAC stamps with the CD cases but the cases I bought have a small gap on the left side and I actually lost an alpha stamp out of it once. of course, it had to be the letter "e". Rats. I guess it would save space and trick DH into thinking I have a lot "less" How do I get rid of the space? Thanks for sharing!!

I have been storing my stamp cases on end, but I am affraid the rubber and doublesided tape may start to slide from being stored on its side. Anyone have this happen to them from storing them vertical instead of flat? PLMK if you have had this happen. Thanks

I have to store some of my stamp sets in a drawer and after reading Shell’s post on standing them on end I have so much more room.
But I won’t know what I'm grabbing out of the drawer. SO!
I thought I would stamp a little of each design and just clear tape it to the box side that shows. Since this drawer houses just my small background filler stamps it will be easy.
Some days I know I spend more time organizing than stamping. I’ll have to pass this on to my SIL because she has about a million sets so far!
The pictures really do help.

Thanks Shell,
Rox
