I want to make lunchbag books with the grandkids this weekend, but I can't get past the first step. How do you punch holes through all those layers of paper to insert brads or eyelets and get the holes to line up?? too many layers to punch all at once, (or maybe I'm just wimpy ) and the holes aren't lining up when I punch one bag at a time and then put two or three together.
Any suggestions??

have you tried using the hole punch and the hammer from the eyelet kit? Or maybe you could use colored staples and staple the binding. I have seen it done both ways and they both look nice. The kids might think colored staples are cool.

I just pounded my way through all of the layers @ once, other than that I could only suggest careful measurment for more accurate placement doing 1 layer @ a time.
When I made one with mutiple layers, I pounded through with the eyelet tool and hammer. Now, I just use one lunch bag so that I can just use my hole punch. Good luck!!
I made a "template" of exactly where I wanted my holes punched, carefully lining it up with the edge and top and bottom. Worked great! But---we did have trouble with getting eyelets through all the layers. I think next time we'll only put eyelets on the front and back pages, and just use "hole reinforcer thingies" for the middle layers. THey should keep the paper from tearing, and won't be visible.
I made a really cute "book" a couple of weekends ago with two friends. We were having so much fun with it that we stayed up till 2:30 AM!! Sould have taken a picture and posted it! They are soooo much fun!
You guys- OUCH!!! I fold the first bag in half and punch 3 easy holes, then insert the 2nd bag and punch thru the 1st holes and insert the 3rd bag and repeat. Takes less than one minute and one simple hole punch. I should mention however, that is as far as I have gotten. I have been viewing all of the bags on this site for ideas and shopping for embelishment 'stuff'.
A couple of weeks ago, someone from a Yahoo group I am on (SUART)sold one of these for $60.00 So, I went to look for brown bag books today, and the most any were selling for was $24- most under $20. What alot of work for $20!!! Anyway, It is a good place to get ideas and see color combo's that look good for certain themes.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'll use the eyelet hole puncher and my REAL hammer, and take another whack at it!! no pun intended... no, really
