It is hard to objective when you are a demo, but here goes. The advantages to SU are:
1. coordinating colors -- can't emphasize this enough. I love it when the eyelets, ribbon, inks, etc. match....
2. come in a box so storage is super easy (if you buy all at once)
3. double tipped -- wider for coloring on stamps, narrow for writing
I have also used Marvy and Tombow. Hated Marvy -- can't explain why except the colors just looked blotchy when I tried coloring in on paper. I think the type I had had tips that were just were too big for coloring on paper. Tombow did not have that problem and are double tipped too. So, I say
invest in the best!!
Hope this helps!

I bought the many marvelous markers at a workshop just before I signed up. Let me tell you. I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!! Everything matches, the tips are wonderful, and if I don't have a specific color of ink, I can just use a marker and color on the stamp. I hae noticed that I really don't get a streaky look with them either, like I have with other markers. I never would've believed that SU's products would be that much different than other manufacturers, but they really are. Nothing compares to the quality of EVERYTHING we have. If you want to get the markers 12 at a time or buy the big set, it is a great investment. If you get them 12 at a time, you can sometimes find the Many Marvelous Markers box on Ebay.
I have several sets of Marvy Markers purchased before I even knew what SU was. My question is can I use them on my SU stamps or should I save them for the non-SU stamps I have. I just signed up to be a demo and purchsed 4 colors of SU markers at the workshop I attended. Don't want to ruin my new stamps but I like the way the markers look.
Thanks
Steph
I have a bunch of Tombow markers (purchased before I became a demo) and they are excellent quality. When I purchased them from my LSS, I would spend an inordinate amount of time trying to match them to SU colors. I must not have realized at that time that I could purchase the SU markers one at a time.
I continue to use both the Tombow & SU markers and love them both.
I can't speak to the Marvy and Tombow markers but here's my .02 on the SU markers.
I bought the whole set back in 1999 and since then only had to buy new colors. The old ones are STILL as juicy as the day I bought them!! And I've never reinked them. They are SIX years old and perfect! I love the look and feel of the new style and would love to replace the old ones just for the asthestics, but they just won't give up! Obviously I don't use them a ton, but always use them to write in my cards, so the ink coordinates with the paper and use them now and then to color something small or ink up rubber individually. I have never, even for a second, regretted the investment.
Have only owned Le Plume and SU!; cann't speak for Tombow, altho I hear they are a very good/high quality marker.
SU! markers will coordinate with SU!'s exclusive 48 colors in ink pads, both dye and pigment (Craft), as well as the card stock. My guess is you'd have to experiment with any other brand to find close enough matches?
Prior to purchasing SU!'s markers, I had purchased Le Plume's and had issues of leaking on a number of occasions. I ended up just getting my $ back and giving up on those.
I personally enjoy having products that coordinate well together without any brainwork on my part, so even if I were not a demo'r, I'd purchase the SU! markers, because I already love their ink and paper colors and I consider all these SU! products to be high quality.
HTH,

Ok I think I am convinced that I need to get the SU markers. I was actually an art major and had to use Tombo for my commercial art classes and I HATE THEM! Just wanted to see if SU had a good rep. My Tombo's ran out of Ink alot but then I used them for poster sized projects too. They are also not reinkable and are expensive. I also can't use them like watercolors either and get the same results as SU ink. Didn't someone say that they sold in sets too besides individually? I am currently sans demo and haven't seen a catty in a while.
Thanks!

you can buy them by color family. They are in sets of 12. I can't remember the price off the top of my head. You can also get the entire set for 119.95???? I think that's the price.
I've owned Marvey and Tombo for years and have never used SU. Can the SU reinkers really be used to refill the markers? I always thought it was a different formulation.
If they can be refilled, then I'd be sold!! The only problem being the lower amount of colors to choose from.......I've got about 80+ colors of the others.

I love that I can write and color with them, and refill them! The markers were actually the first "ink" i ever got from SU! Now I actually have all 48 colors in classic pads! I would never trade the fact that I can match all the SU stuff, too. I find that when I go to a scrapbook store, I try to match everything to SU colors! EEK!
