I just received the new SU mini and noticed that there are more $30 sets. It seems like prices have really gone up. I can see a couple of dollars, but the upper end in price used to be $25 and now it is in the $30 range. That's a $5 increase which seems to me to be quite a jump in price. Can someone help me understand so I can justify the cost. I'm not trying to start a battle, I'm just really bummed and disappointed because there are some sets I would really like to buy, but the price is keeping me from buying them. And to top it off I have all my stamps unmounted so I don't even want or use the wood blocks.
The stamps in the Holiday Mini are die cut! That would add to cost some. Don't know if that justify cost but I like the idea of not having to cut out the stamps. HTH

Fuel prices have gone up and it takes gas to get the products to the consumer...that's my best guess! Funny how the fuel industry is making mega profits while the rest of struggle.
As for the unmounted - I wish we had that option when we purchase. It sure saves on space and money. I haven't anything since the new catty came out.

I bet I'd still be trimming that rubber off! I would love to see how one is trimmed.

It's really cool and well worth the money!!!!!! Plus you can hang onto the rubber that they came out of and use the empty space as a template to add a muted background to the stamp with a cotton ball and ink or whatever.

Are they all die cut? I noticed that one set (the least expensive one) said it was, but I didn't notice that notation on all of them.
Per Shelli's note on the inside front cover she says, "every stamp set is die cut, a wonderful holiday surpise that will save you time during this most busy time of year". Third paragraph of her short note.

So it's die cut but the rubber is still attached, sorta like it was in the squared off sections with just a little piece that still holds it together as one.
I like the idea of the extra rubber but then I have a couple bags full that I never use...someday! ;)
Well, that's neat. Maybe all new stamps will be die cut in the future. I didn't read Shelli's paragraph, I was too busy perusing the stamps. I guess the molds/dies are designed to have the die cut feature. Although, I keep the rubber cuttings and the idea of a rubber outline is neat, I think it would be neat for SU to recycle the excess rubber. Don't know if it could be melted and reused, maybe? Just trying to be green. I don't really see that the diecut would add to the cost unless it is in the initial cost of the mold/die (or however they are manufactured). I don't think there is any additional manual labor involved in the manufacturing. Anyone know?

SU prices are one of the reasons why TAC was the best choice for me! IMHO, it doesn't make any sense to pay $33.95 for a set of 8 stamps and then be told that I can only sell my cards and "temporary locations".
Don't get me wrong, I still love SU products and will buy some occasionally.
Stampin' Up! does recycle the rubber- if you go to parks in the Kanab area yo will see playgrounds filled with recycled rubber! What a great company- always donating supplies and stamps to great organizations, schools, and playgrounds!
The stamps in the minis are now diecut- it is great! As soon as you get the stamps you slap them on the wonderful word block or acrylic block if that is what you prefer- and your ready to stamp!!! What a time saver.
Aaaaaaaaaand, I've been hearing GOOD things about them being die cut. Lots of folks are really picky about how their stamps are cut, and were concerned they'd just have to re-cut them themselves. The feedback I've been getting for the most part, is that the cuts are great, even for the fussiest of cutters.

If your primary reason for buying stamps is to sell projects made with them at a permanent retail location, then this is a perfectly understandable business decision! Most stampers purchase stamps for personal use, so the image itself is more important than the terms of the copyright license. And as with any other stamp set, each stamper has to decide if the images in a particular set are worth the price charged.
I never minded cutting out my stamps, but I love the die cuts. It was great to pop them out and start using them. I think it is worth the extra dollars. I have not had to trim any of the die cuts yet.

No, price was not my primary reason for going with TAC. I love using the unmounted rubber and storage is a breeze. The low minimums make it very flexible and they do alot to encourage sales for their demos, like the Gift with Purchase stamps and Stamp Set of the Month. I could list more, but I'll stop there. It's just a matter of personal choice and I'm just glad there are so many options out there for us stamp-a-holics!
I love to cut them while I watch TV and I really don't mind cutting them if the price is lower! but they are cute and I am an addict... so I will pony up and spend my $$$!

That would be me! My SIL was helping me mount some images we got for our charity work and she does some major undercuting...I got so worked up inside I decided to halt the project and just told her I enjoy mounting and will look forward to doing the rest as my hands will allow. ;)
Good thing she doesn't trim close and I had enough rubber and foam to correct the mistake. :-D
I don't know how to keep from undercutting. Mine have all ended up undercut. :(
What I try to do to prevent undercutting is to slant the scissors away from the body, then mine seem to be coming out straight...go figure...
I do have to keep myself focused on the slanting tho!
I have seen the stamps that are die cut and they seem to be cut very close to the image. It wouldn't take any time to trim something out if you didn't want it there, though. I hope the catalog goes to all die cut in the future, but in the mean time, the minis have great stuff and I'll get the die cut sets that way
Is anyone else shocked about the price of the wrapping paper?
I was. It's really pretty, and I bet it's SUPER quality, but as fast as it's torn up by people opening their gifts, I'd rather spend the money on a better gift. Or better yet--- more stamps!
LOL, I don't waste my gorgeously (if I do say so myself!) stamped gift wrap on people who tear open their packages. I imagine I will use the paper for other things...decorations, as a substitute for designer papers (on cards, not scrapbooks), things like that.
I know that Stampin Up sent the first batch back to the mfr. because it wasn't thick like they wanted, so I can't wait to see the final result. The price is higher than the other wrapping paper; I guess I won't be getting ALL of them, lol. When used as dp, though? It's a great price!

Yes, this is what I thought SU was thinking when they put this in the mini. I've used other good quality wrapping paper to decorate lampshades, etc. I really want to decopage (sp) my coffee table with cool dp at some point too!

I'm going to use the wrapping paper as background paper - the price becomes some much acceptable then!!!

It seems high when you look at the number, but someone had done a price comparison, (I think JanTink) and it's right in line with competitor brands of paper. I think she based it on the Current brand.

If you compare SU images per piece you will find that the overall cost is equal to or less than buying compariable images separately...even when comparing them to stamps sold UM...
Just to show you an example
Star-Studded Season - 8 stamps @ $34 (let's say $38 add in S&H and some tx) = 4.88 per stamp....
Something similar from another company that sells single stamps could cost $7-12 PER STAMP... (using compariable stamps from Penny Black, Hero Arts,etc...)
This holds true for most of the other SU stamp sets...of course SU sells in sets so if you only like 1 image in the set then yeah it won't be a good deal for you - but if you love the set as a whole they are a darn good deal...
One of the biggest things I found when I was researching when the new catty came out I found some stamps similar to Define Your Life...one of the most expensive sets in the catty at $47.95 - so even with shipping and tax - it comes to UNDER $2 per stamp...the ones similar in appearance and size - $8 mounted - $3 UM...so the cost for 28 mounted - $224 28 UM - $84
so yes...it can look like a big number...but when you break it down per stamp - you are getting a great deal...even when you compare them to UM
Prices are going up everywhere - from gas to milk to veggies to rubber stamps...

I felt the same way, so I looked through a TAC catalog which has AWESOME stamp sets for in a lot of cases about half the cost. There's no wood to toss out either! (Not trying to start a battle either).
I LOVE SU! and I'll still continue to buy stamps from SU if I find a set I can't live without, but I find more and more that I can find similar sets cheaper by not buying the wood that comes with them.
