SU Scrapbooks - Need an Opinion on Leather Bound Albums!
I just got my backordered from my demo kit navy linen 6x6 post bound album today. I had never seen or used a SU! album before and I must say that I am very impressed with the quality. The covers are very thick and sturdy.
Now here is my question: I need an album for my wedding pictures. I think that I would like to use the burgundy leather album but before I go for it I'd like some opinions. Are the leather album covers as thick, sturdy, and dent resistant as the new linen ones? What is your opinion of them?
Hi Amanda, I have an order coming in tomorrow and I ordered a 12 x12 Leather Pecan album. I will let you know my thoughts. I have ordered 6x6 albums, this is my first 12x12. I have enjoyed the quality of the 6x6 albums and I live in an area where there are scrapbook stores on every corner..almost. Also, we have an Archivers. So what I am trying to say is that I have many different types of albums for which to compare...if that makes sense. Can't wait to get my order!!Bev
Amanda, My pecan 12x12 leather album came. It is excellent quality. Mine even smells of leather. It is gorgeous. I love it and will be purchasing more. Bev
Sorry to be the rain on the parade here, but I bought a leather album when they first came out, and when I tried to expand it, the spine RIPPED. Yes, that's right, ripped like a cheap piece of cardboard. I was so upset and disappointed, and SU wouldn't take it back or exchange it because it had been too long since I had bought it. I don't know if they have gone through a new supplier, but the old ones were crap in my opinion.
I have bought K & Company scrapbooks and Francis Meyer scrapbooks for my daughters, and have had no problems at all.
Just my 2 cents! I don't even know if it's worth 2 cents!
Oh yes, and I'm a demo, believe me, I do not sell the leather album.
Bev and anyone else,
Have you looked at the spine? Does it look like it will rip as girlygirl has said hers did? Now I am concerned! The spine on the linen one is fairly heavy board covered in the linen material. I don't think that it could rip. Can anyone compare the leather spine to the linen spine and describe the quality?
-Amanda
I have both the 12 x 12 Pecan Album and the 12 x 12 Linen Album and I love them both! The spine material on the leather album seems to be very sturdy. I just tugged on it a bit to see how strong it was; I don't think I could tear it if I wanted to.
I bought my leather album in 02. Maybe you could call demo support (if you're a demo) and see if they have a new supplier for their leather albums. They seem to have more colors. Also, they were absent from the catty for a while.
They have not changed vendors and they are not aware of any problems with the spines ripping.
The only thing that I can figure out is that the vendor changed the spines at some point, or the few that ripped were a bad batch. At this point, I think that I am going to try it. I'll never know until I just get one and see it for myself. I'll probably buy it when I put in my open house order this weekend, so next week I will try to remember to post my opinion.
I seem to remember that the year they added the pecan color, the supplier was changed. I remember them saying they got a better quality album for the same cost.
I'm really sad that mine ripped...I was so happy with the beautiful leather and gorgeous moire in the lining. Maybe I'll try it again someday...but I need more time to heal from the last experience...
The leather album I am talking about was just ordered and it is one of the sturdiest albums I have seen. The spine is sturdy, too. They must have changed suppliers or improved on it because this one is fantastic and I will be purchasing more. Just my 2 cents. Bev
Brown just brought my package including my leather scrapbook album. At first look over, I am very impressed. The covers are sturdy and the spine is a double layer of leather. I am happy with my purchase so far.

I put together an album in celebration of our pastor about a year and a half ago. The album was beautiful and I put way more in it than I should have. It held up fine (hope it still is). For a difference of $10, I'd go with leather over linen any day!
