Smile Suggestions for Afternoon Tea Invitation

Hi,

I need some help and know that you ladies are so creative and helpful to us newbies...

Looking for ideas, suggestions for a small, simple invitation for an afternoon tea that will be at the Walt Disney World Grand Floridian Tea Room. This is part of a weekend wedding celebration at WDW and is actually going to be in place of the Rehearsal Dinner, since the grooms family is British.

Any help, suggestions, ideas or websites to look at for assistance would be greatly appreciated!

THANKS :p

If you look in the gallery for WEDDING you might find something that is suitable. The pictures seem to range in style from simple to extravagant and from cutsie to beautiful.

First of all that sounds like alot of fun!!! I love Disney...the first image that popped into my head was this stamp by DRS Designs, www.drsdesigns.com

http://www.drsdesigns.com/orderpages/h1079order.htm

a pretty image, pretty simple to color or you could emboss it with the main color of the wedding and just leave it at that...

I'm sure the gallery has a ton of ideas too...definitely look under wedding, maybe even try tea party? good luck - have a great time!

Um wow! Married to a Englishman myself there are several routes I could recommend depending on how formal you want to go - you could go with some embossing and initials/wording on the front of an invitation.

Depending on how many you have to make there are templates for teapots or teacups-saucers about and you could go for a shaped card.

Also "high" tea is associated with the hats (a more formal dress attire than casual) so you could do a card either shaped as a lady's hat or with hats, gloves, pearls etc. (for a US reference think how the ladies dress for the Kentucky Derby but less flashy).

Any way you do it you probably want to put the dress code for it in the invite because although I have been married forever and lived half my life in England, we called our evening meal tea at times and though I went to many formal events Tea wasn't one of them, as could be the case of some of your guests as well. Enjoy it and I am sure your guests will as well.

Don't call it "high" tea though....that is actually more of a "supper" and is not the fancy afternoon tea. I was corrected by the owner of an English tea shop. Try searching the gallery for "tea" or "teacup" or "teapot" , there are lots of examples.

Here's a tea card that I did. This set is retired, but you could adapt the idea with any teapot or teacup stamp you have, and use scallop scissors for a tablecloth edge. The colors could be the wedding colors.

a bit of yes and no - think the "high" actually refers to the fact you are sitting at a dining table instead of say a coffee table or in the sitting room with a small table. But yes, it does mean there is meat involved in the food instead of just a few cakes and biscuits(cookies).

If you are talking about a substantial meal you are actually referring to the colloquial usage of the word Tea in place of evening meal.

Still it should be quite fun--- oh and you "take tea" in my experience, but I am sure there are some Brits on here that can keep us on the straight and narrow. Maybe I should go off and quiz the hubby he has been to more than a few crustless cucumber sandwiches events in his lifetime.

Back to the OP what I have noticed (not knowing your colour scheme) is that in England when you speak of tea although there are a variety of pots and designs the classic is the blue and white china --- but anything pretty and flowery would be appropriate too.

I would love to "take tea" right now! High tea, low tea, any kind of tea, with a scrumptious scone with some cream and lemon curd! YUM

Carol, I hope you post your invitation. I'm sure it will be a beautiful event!

Did you want any sort of tie-in with Disney or are you going to stick with the tea focus only? Didn't know how significant the choice of WDW was for your wedding. I don't have any slick ideas about tying the two together...just wanted to throw that out there as a thought.

Depending on the "feel" of the wedding (casual or formal), I would make the tea invitations to match that.
I have held Hostess Appreciation Teas in my home for my Stampin' Up Hostesses and generally do a more formal invitation with deep color cardstock (burgundy, navy, hunter green) and vellum. This last year, I CASED this lovely invitation by beccabatgirl bbg Elegant Wedding by beccabatgirl at Splitcoaststampers

I wish I could come too!

BA I really like that card very pretty!

I don't have a picture of the card I did but I made invites for my little girl's birthday tea party one year. Don't know if this helps but may give you something to think about. I actually found a template the shape of a teapot and then used the tag punch with string to hang out of the top b/c punched in white the tag punch actually looks like a tag from a tea bag. I put each person's name on the tag hanging out. Make any sense?
