Hi ladies.
I have a question about swapping. What if I see a card in the gallery that I really like. Is it inappropriate to CASE it and submit it for a swap?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
It will be interesting to hear what people think on this one. If you case something to submit, I think it would be more appropriate to change something on it to really make it your own.

I think it would be ok as long as you give credit to the person you CASED it from.
But you can take it a step further and PM the person who's card you are casing and aks if that person would mind you using it for a swap.
Just my opinion!

I say go for it. I wouldn't pm the person and ask for approval. But I would give credit where credit is due and perhaps type a small label for the back of the card... If I was casing one of your cards for instance the label might read:
As I understand it, CASE is copy and steal everything...
this is okay if you CASE from the catty to show a real card for demo purposes, or personal use, for instance.
and always credit the originator.
" swap appropriate " to me is to see an imaginative use for embellishment or new vellum treatment, color combo, layout template or container and to be inspired by it.
Sneak it into a project with something you love and you don't have to be a copycat!
imho o' course!

I wouldn't be offended personally - someone with great talent might (but I don't think my CASE of some of our "big guns" would even do it enough justice to be considered a CASE!!!)
I think so long as there is no "monetary/fiscal benefit" to the CASEr (ie. don't enter it in a contest for a prize or other type of glory - that's just MEAN...) there's no issue...
After over a year of enjoying the gallery on SCS, it's hard for me to believe that ANY of my creations are originals, KWIM?
To CASE for inspiration is fine, make a note of the original artist. I don't think it should be an exact copy anytime.
Casing is a form of compliment, if we use it wisely, it is appropriate.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I voted for I wasn't sure. I don't do many swaps since it takes me a while to come up with an idea unless it's a set I just love and then I would aready have an idea.
I wasn't sure for swaps since I would more want to create a card that showed what I could do with a set. I guess if you changed it some from the original creator and gave them credit it would be ok since it would be different from their card...it would have your touch!!

I agree that it would be best to give a swap card some of your own personal pizzazz. Keep in mind that you can rotate layouts, etc. i reemmber reading a post a long time ago from a lady who received her own card design, colour for colour and a perfect copy basiclaly, with no credit given to anyone on the back. She was pretty chapped.
Personally, I think that it is ok to CASE a card without giving credit to the original maker for a swap. You are not gaining anything from it's use and you are not distracting from it's originator by CASEing.
I think that if someone gets so bent about their layout being copied, they shouldn't post it for anyone to see. But that's just me.

I don't quite know what the right answer is. But I know I would not be offended if this happened to me. I would be honored that someone liked my creation enough to CASE it. But I don't know if I would do it, because I know alot of people get offended in this kind of situation.

I don't often come up with an entire original idea but I do put several things together. Do I have to mention everyone that gave me the idea? Is that considered CASEing? Do I think it's okay to use something like that for a swap...yep. JMO
I agree with a lot of the above statements but I was thinking. Ok. This particular card that I saw was posted on SCS in 2004 and had I not just bought this stamp set, I would not have even had reason to go browsing this stamp set and would possibly never seen this card. Is it almost correct to assume that this is the case?? How many cards are there on SCS and how many people (except the mods who approve them) have seen them all???
Hmmmmm.. I still am no closer to knowing what I should do with this card that I made if I should use them in my swap or not. I guess I could PM my group and ask them if they care if I sent a cased card.

Just do it! What are they going to do? Send them back? lol! Not! Live dangerously!
I had gathered from a previous thread that most people do not care, and are very flattered when their cards are cased in some fashion. Send that person a pm or send a comment, say you liked their card so much, it inspired you to make something similar for a swap. You will make their day! I wouldn't worry.
I thought the idea of a swap was to generate NEW ideas. Based on that a case should not be done, and using the same card for multiple swaps is a no-no also!
I think it depends...if you are swapping here at SCS...I would take a second or two to pm the person - afterall that person could be in the swap...what if they are doing that card for thier swap as well...
That being said I have had 2 people pm me asking if it would be OK for them to CASE a card I did for a swap - I was very flattered and gave them my approval because I wasn't in the swap with them
