Default Tag Help!

I am interested in making tags and I am really confused. I ike the kit that stampin up is offering but I really want two punches. One bigger and one smaller to make mats. Plus I don't like the stubbiness of this one, I like the longer tags. Anyone have any ideas? I can't seem to find a big enough punch at the stores plus they don't have the handle which makes them hard to work. Are you guys using templates and cutting them out by hand or how are people doing this? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

*Yes. I use paper templates and cut by hand. There are SOoooo many shapes and styles of tags. Sometimes I just want a teensy one like I put on this card. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

*Here is a simple pattern. You can paste it into whatever software you use for drawing,,, then shrink or expand or distort however you like. http://familycrafts.about.com/librar...ltempltag1.htm

* DON'T MISS THIS page... wonderful photos of tag art!! http://www.rubberstampsclub.com/tips/tag-art

Let's see...

From the home improvement center-
1) Tag punches - I have punched tags using paint chips (the new metallic paints or samples of faux finishes are great).
2) Laminate chips make great tags - be sure to add lots of fibers as the hang loop

From the office supply store-
Stock tags, labels, manilla labels with wire

From Cardstock-
Cut out using plastic templates or
Cut out square and trim one end with diagonal cuts and punch a hole

Jazz up the tag by adding a small square of paper as a hole reinforcement and hold in place with an eyelet. An eyelet alone also looks great.

Decorating your tag- running a small border around the edge with a metallic pen gives it a sharp gilt edge.

And there are tag rubber stamps if you want the tag just as an image.

What else, ladies?

Back to the original question ... ... having a hard time with your punch? Put it on the floor with the paper in it all lined up and (with shoes) gently step on it. Works like a charm.

I frequently use my coluzzle templates (nested tags & shadow tags) because they make it easy to create the mats for layering.

I can't make very nice tags with the templates. I am just scissor impaired. For big tags I use my sizzix. It was worth the money! I also have started using the slit punch that SU! sells. Make a great straight corner for the tags! Best of luck!

I have tags that I keep in a zip lock baggie. I got one bag of tags at Wal-Mart a few years ago on clearance and then just purchased another bag of tags from Big Lots for $.79. It had some similar shapes that I had before, and then some new ones. I just keep it with my packet and then can use any color/style of paper I want. I trace them out with a pencil (on the reverse side) and then cut with my scissors.

Here is a corner punch that i use to make tags with. My demo brought it to my attention. Cut your paper to make layers and punch just two corners, then layer. It works great to make different size tags. I have used it alot because I didnt have a tag punch.

hope this helps you, I am sure there are other corner punches out there that would work as well,,, keep your eyes open and look for possibilities.

Default Tag mats

I agree. How are you all making mats with the tag punch kit?

Well, what I've been doing with the stamps that come in the kit is trimming them all the way to the stamped image and then using the punch to get my mat, KWIM?

Red face scissor challenged?

My artistic friends tell me that the trick to cutting nice lines is to move the paper to get the cuts to go in different directions - never turn your scissors. It works pretty well. I can usually (notice I said usually) cut a form that looks like it was premade. And when I fail.....well, it just has to be one of those tags with weathered edges.
