Hey again, it's me--- I was wondering what everyone else was doing for their child's teacher for the holidays... My demo taught us how to make this super cute purse thingy at our workshop, so I figured I'd copy it then fill it with cards and envelopes.. We're not allowed to give baked goods to anyone inside the school anymore so brownies are out.. :(
My daughter and I made personalized altered clipboards for each of her teachers. She was so proud of her creations and they all turned out unique and special.
1. I have decorated lunch tins for them and filled them with cards and envelopes for all occasions
2. I have decorated CD tins and am using them as Gift Card Holders... with a gift card to Chapters.
I haven't gotten them all loaded on to my blog yet... but I hope to do that tonight or tomorrow... You can see the first tin I did at http://nancyscreativemess.blogspot.c...-card-tin.html Check my blog tonight or tomorrow to see the latest ones.

Well my daughters tutor "mentioned" recipie boxes would be nice, with a few new recipies to start. I thought ok whatever, but when I told my teacher friend who always complains about the gifts she gets being cheesy most times, she thought that was a winner! So, thats what I am doing. I almost finished one, 7 to go! I'll post a photo when they are complete. And yes I am using the Whats for Dinner for the cards inside.
As for tother gifts check my gallery-I uploaded a few things I did for my daughters doctors and nurses~
I went to the $1 section at Target and bought some soaps and lotions and I am going to make them a set of cards (generic) w/a card holder. Mind you my ds in only in pre-school.
I'm making 60 of these for a principal to give to the staff at her school. At the start of the school year, I made another goodie for them using a star, so we decided to stick with the star theme for the memo boards.
It's the time of the year when I cry BAH - Broke As Heck. I've made some very nice cards for the teachers, and I'm making some magnetic bookmarks for them.
I am making JOY frames. Then for some I am making hot chocolate baggies. And a clipboard for my kids' sensei.

I made 8x8 scrapbooks. I got the scrapbooks when Joann's had a good sale. I think they were on sale for about $3 each. I made each scrapbook the same and so far have 10 pages in each. Ready for pictures to be added. I'm going to try and keep adding to them until I HAVE to give them to them. But even if I don't get anymore added I think 10 pages are a nice start for a year's class pictures.
For the kindergarten aide I made a matching set of notecards, a covered notepad, a matching pen, and a fruit can with candy.
I am new to this so if all goes well I am planning on doing nugget boxes and maybe a few cards to go with them. I will see how quickly I can get the boxes done and if I have time to do the cards to go with.
I did cards. I've been doing that for years. The one teacher who each of my children have had said she this is her favorite gift. This year, my daughters teacher loves butterflies, I did cards with butterflies and did the happy birhtday, thinking of you, thank you and bestwishes theme. My son's teacher I did a variety and I also did 3x3 tag cards...Putting them in a cello bag with a cute topper on it.
I'm giving my DD 2nd grade teacher a set of 12 notecards: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers. I'll make 3 (ink- blue, black, and purple) RSVP pens with her name too.
I'm also giving her a jewelry set that I made - matching necklace, earrings, and bracelet.

Last year I did a movie in a can. It was a gallon paint can with candy, popcorn, and a gift certificate for blockbuster. His teacher loved it. Only thing I'd change is probably NOT getting the movie theatre BUTTER popcorn - whew when you open up the paint can it reeks of butter! Here's a link to that
I did another holiday gift that was similar (it wasn't for a teacher though). I used the "coke truck" (you can get it at Walmart this time of year in with the Christmas stuff) and I stuffed the back of the truck with the goodies instead. Here is a link to that
I am doing tealight holders with battery operated tealights in them and a box o' Nuggets for each of the teachers, except DD's teacher, who is 26 YO and would rather have chocolate chip cookies (making those)! Doing DS and (other) DD's teachers, bus driver, and the 2 ladies in the office who help my DS with his medicine on a regular basis! Oh, and the piano teacher, too!

For my kindergartner's teacher, my daughter picked out a book for the classroom to be read to the students.
For my 4th grader's teacher, my daughter picked out a gift certificate to a local store called the Learning Palace. They sell lots of items for teachers and homeschoolers.
My 4th grader said that her teacher was really happy with her gift and said that she would definately use it.
My kindergartner said that her teacher already opened the book and read it to the class but she didn't say that the teacher said anything to her about it.
I haven't gotten any independent acknoledgement of either gift from the teachers, so I am not sure if they liked the gifts or not.

NOTHING this year! DD is in middle school and there are just too many teachers @ this age. MAYBE.......MAYBE, if I have time I'll make them each a nugget box. MAYBE, but that's IT! In elementary school we would give a $25 gift card to whatever the teachers "vice" may have been (ie, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, B&N, etc). I'm not giving 5 different teachers $25 each. NOT gonna happen!
the whole gift thing seems to be getting out of control for me....so I am not stamping anything other than a card this Chirstmas....dd wants to give to everyone so she has a main teacher, PE coach, Music, Science, Library, computer lab, nurse, counsler, princ. and vice, 2 ladies in the office AND she wants to give to her old teachers!
SO I dont have time for all of that and I am going to do something very simple this year. We are going to make Candy Covered Pretzel sticks. Each will get a bag of 3 or 4 or whatever I decide is all the time I have and I will make a little tag to put on the bag...
Her main teacher will get a basket filled with a glade candle (cuz those smell the best to me out of everything I had to pick from), an ornament, milano cookies, dove candies and the pretzel sticks.
I will do a stamped project for the end of the year and something everyday for Teacher Appreciation week.

I am making a basket of goodies with a card tote filled with thank you cards that they can use for Christmas gifts, a candle, a Cricut Christmas tree box filled with chocolates, a pinecone bauble, a post it note holder and beaded pen and if I have time I am going to make a Cricut popcorn box and fill it with chocolate chip cookies!
I have got to have them finished and I only have one done so far. There is nothing like leaving it until the last minute, lol!
I made personalized clipboards, jr legal pads and pens for the 4 teachers I work with. For my sons teachers, I made paper bag albums . They will also get a book gift certificate. They both have small children, so I thought they would really like those!
I need to think of something little for all the other teachers they encounter!! LO
I am doing a movie theme can for DD's main middle school teacher I think he will really like it!L

That is really sad that you never heard back. I always receive thank you notes from the teachers and nurse and secretary. DD loves to get mail and it is her favorite thing during Christmas vacation to get those notes in the mail.

I like your idea and hope you don't mind if I CASE part of it -- I also do gifts for the same amount of teachers, secretary, nurse, etc. so I hear you in the handmade dept. Best of intentions but then sitting down it never gets done! Like your idea!
This yr I had the kids help me with the gifts for teachers cause I do like to give to the teachers even the "specials". Plus this yr my oldest is in middle so that added more on, but I did forget the nurse and secretaries (oops) . Anyway we did jr legal pads cut in 1/2 lengthwise covered and decorated, RSVP pens, a 2x2 tile magnet and a small candle all in a cello bag. It went pretty quick and the kids were great this yr with helping (they had prior warning.)
Now I am gathering up ideas for next yr that will be quicker and easier.
I bought 1/2 pound candy boxes that I plan to stamp with the jumbo Poinsettia wheel in Cranberry Crisp. Punch out a tag, and tie them shut with green ribbon. Inside will be 6 homemade truffles that my daughters and I are making together. We're making plain chocolate, chocolate/peanut butter, and tiramisu!

Absolutely case away!!
I actually got the idea from the Kraft Foods magazine I get in the mail....you can sign up for it at Kraftfoods.com (I think it is) anyway you just use large pretzel sticks, Melt chocolate (the baking block kind) dip the pretzel in it then roll in your choice of goodies.....dd picked white chocolate rolled in crushed oreos and Semi Sweet Chocolate rolled in crushed mini m&m's (we could not find any of the green and red or we would have used them).
She will do mostof the work and I will supervise ;)
They looked yummy to me!

One thing teachers like is if you buy something for their class like a library book or a video or some art supplies. You might ask first though. A gift certificate is always good in a pretty card.
Gift certificates are always good. Don't give any type of food gift. Teachers are usually instructed to throw away all food gifts. Also, check if you can even give gifts. In Irvine, CA there is an investigation going on because teachers accepted gifts from parents when there was a "no gift rule" and some are likely to lose their jobs.
We are giving his main teacher a gift card to Barnes and Noble ~ she loves to read or Kohl's because our DS says she always talks about going shopping there! And probably a little something to go w/it, I haven't decided what yet. And for his other teachers (music, art, computers etc.) ~ I am making them each a set of Fabriano blank note cards ~ using the sassy stems set/watercoloring.
One year I made his main teacher a winter survival kit in a paint can and then included a gift card, too! She loved it. I found the idea in Paper Crafts magazine! I think it was November or December 2004? Another year I gave one of his teachers a "spaghetti dinner" kit ~ w/noodles, spaghetti sauce, etc.... She loved it, she said it was nice to have a meal during this busy time of year taken care of. I made up a little poem to go w/it and decorated a basket w/stamped cards etc.
