A while back there were some VERY clever ladies posting links to their cards or scrapbooks that had these adorable little bears that they had made by tearing handmade bazill cardstock. Anyway, I was just wondering, does anyone know how to make a POLAR BEAR using the same technique. I would love to use some on my scrapbook page for our holiday when we visited seaworld this year in Australia.
Oops... can we post outside links here??? This gal, Linda is the bomb at doing these http://www.mulberryvillage.com/store...Cat=FREETREATS
She does these free hand as she is talking to ya, and has taught how to use your fingers to measure for feet, arms, etc. I have done sheep.... all you really need is a coloring book type or simple outline of what you want to tear, and go from there-free hand or scan it into your computer, then print it out on your paper, then tear.... (or trace a template) Good Luck.... They are Fun to do....
* Yes, you can post all sorts of links here, not just the ones to your SCS gallery.
** I never heard of Tear Bears before. Now I see them, they are very cute.
*** I never heard of Mulberry Cardstock before either. Now I have to go to PaperZone or Stampadoodle and ask.
Couldn't you just make it with the white handmade bazzill? You'd have to make the ears smaller and more pointy and the eyes would be a bit more beady, and the muzzle slightly smaller, but it would be the same for most everything else. Let me try one and get back to you

LOL I really didn't mean it like that ;) I was just curious if you all thought it looked like a polar bear
OK here are my instructions as best I can give.
You need:
Handmade Bazzill (NO regular Mulberry paper will NOT give nice results, I've tried)
a paintbrush or I use a dried up blender pen
water
chalks
black paper
either a white gel pen or white Galaxy marker
adhesive
circle templates in various sizes
scissors or punches (oval handheld and paper shapers paw print are teh ones I use)
Take your Handmade Bazzill and turn it to the smooth side and trace a circle for the head, an egg shape for the body, 2 circles for the ears, 2 short ovals for the arms, 2 longer ovals for the legs, an oval for the muzzle, 2 circles for the hands and 2 for the feet. You should have 13 pieces all together.
Roughly cut these out, leaving a good bit around each shape. Take your paintbrush or blender pen and dip it in the water and trace around your lines. You want to saturate the paper so it's wet all the way through. Now hold the shape in your left hand and tear with your right (or reverse that if your left-handed). Set your shape aside to dry. Repeat with the other shapes.
I add chalk to the edges of each piece for depth. Just a little goes a long way I usually put 2 little pink circles on the cheeks of the muzzle and a couple of freckles too.
Next punch or cut out 2 ovals for the eyes and put a small white dot at the top of each. Cut or punch out a small rounded triangle shape for the nose. I add a line of white across the top.
Ok now, adhere the hands and feet to the arms and legs. Now you can play with the position of the bear. He can stand or sit, he can be wrapped around the edge of a mat, it's up to you. I would suggest standing or sitting to start.
The eyes slide in behind the muzzle and the ears go behind the head.
Have fun! The possibliities are endless!
Here are a few of my favorites
Laura, I just about ruined my keyboard from the drool running out of my mouth!!!! Is there any way you can post your template pieces, I think I get it but then again........ now to find the handmade paper
The problem with "template" pieces are that I change them with each bear I make. Some of the bears are larger and some are smaller. So the "templates" change. I'll see what I can do though
Those are absolutely adorable and stunning - the work you did is amazing!!!!! I would love to have any kind of a template you can make. I can't wait to try this out!!! Please email me at [email protected]
