Just curious if anyone has made up a tipsheet on Terrific Tulips.
It looks like a lot of the flower parts can be mixed with each other.
I thought the small open had to be with the small full, etc

I don't have a tip sheet. But I have and love this set. So I have a few opinions.
First, don't use the stampamajig with it. If everything is lined up the same way it's boring. they look more like real flowers if each one is off just a bit.
Tulips can be two toned. So don't be afraid to say stamp in yellow and then use red over the top--I've seen yellow and red tulips. I have a habit of using pale plum and perfect plum together. But you can use both of the coordinating stamps in the same color to add more dimension.
those are off the top of my head. Have fun with the set. I live not far from a town that has a Tulip festival every year on Mother's day weekend, so I'm getting ready to get back out that set.
Where is the tulip festival at? I'm in Madison, WI and might be interested... do you know any more information? Can I find a website on line with dates & locations?

Sara,
I don't know web sites, but I'm sure that you can find info out there. There are 2 here in Iowa that I know of. One is in Pella, it's in central Iowa. From you I'd guess it to be 4 hours, give or take a half hour. Another is in Orange City ( I don't know when this one is though ). Orange City is in North West Iowa. Another town that has a Tulip festival is Holland, Michigan.

Are you kidding? The SAMJ is what kept me from getting rid of that set out of frustration! I could never get the stem to line up with the bottom of the flower, and the shading on my leaves was always WAY off. Now my cards actually look right!

At SU regionals in San Antonio, one of the presenters, Shiloh, gave a tip when it came to Two-Step stamping. She suggested that you stamp your image upside down. For instance, with Terrific Tulip you would stamp your stem first at the top of the paper with the leaf pointing towards you, then you stamp your tulip at the bottom of the stem. She didn't say why this works, but it does. For some reason stamping them upside down in reverse orders makes the process very easy.
As far as colors go I like to use the same color for both the top and bottom layer. I'll stamp off once and then stamp the bottom layer on the paper then for the top layer, I won't stamp off and just stamp on top of what's already there.
Another technique I saw demonstrated was stamp your tulip bottom layer with whatever color - let's say red. Then stamp your stems. When this is done, layer your card front with vellum in the same size. Now stamp the top tulip layer on the vellum in the same color. Very nice shading effect.
I'll have to try red & Yellow, i love the plums and stamping off, are there blue tulips?
I never thought of upside down
and the vellum sounds just beautiful.
Thanks for the tips
Thanks for the tips too...I just got my set on Tuesday and I have been playing...so far I have found the pale plum & perfect plum to be really pretty and summer sun is really pretty too...I have been stamping off on the bottom layer though... I also played with all the purples and they looked nice...I liked real red as the bottom layer and ruby red on the top which was no bad...
The vellum sounds cool...I think that sound really pretty...I'd love to hear some other nice combos...

The Tulip Fest in Pella is AMAZING...if you have the chance to go, you should!!!
I just got a card in a swap where they used this set and they used 2 different colors of dark blue - it looked like Night of Navy and maybe Not so Navy...
It was a sympathy card and was very striking...I don't see it posted in the gallery and I had reason to use it (after I color photocopied it) right after I received the swap...
I keep holding out on this set, but I have a feeling I may just end up owning it soon...

LOVE Terrific Tulips! Color combos I like are Mauve Mist & Rose Romance (sometimes I stamp the Rose Romance off one time to tone it down for the Mauve Mist), Barely Banana & Cameo Coral (<- planted 50 tulip bulbs this color in my yard last fall -- can't wait to see them!) and Cameo Coral and Real Red (or Ruby Red).
Itty bitty highjack, since someone mentioned stamping upside down . . . Stamping upside down gives you a different perspective. Our eye is used to doing things right-side up. If you turn a picture upside down you can draw it more easily and more accurately than right side up. When I went to a porcelain doll-making class, we always looked at our work on the faces (eyebrows especially) in the mirror, which would show any unbalance in the work.
Back to Terrific Tulips . . . stamping the stem first and then the leaf over top is the best way to line that part up.

This is one of those sets I had to have, then used it a bunch, then forgotten. I was looking to trade it away. After I read this thread, I think I am going to try using it again. Especially since it is almost spring!
This set was on my wish list for a long time. Finally bought it and I LOVE it!
I'm still not sure how to do the leaf and stem. Is the leaf supposed to be lighter, then stamp the stem darker? Do you stamp the stem first then the leaf?
Ohh I love this set! SO far mine has pretty much already paid for itself with the amount I have used it! It is a great set to play with different color combinations.
It makes a pretty background for a scrapbook page.
I never thought of stamping off tho. I guess I had it in my mind that I "had" to use two different colors don't know why.
Lisa , here is what I figured out looked best, stamp the stem first in the darker colour, then using the same colour stamp off the leaf first then stamp on the stem. it seems easier that way.
I used this set for the first time at a workshop, I wish I would have thought of the following, one gal forgot to to stamp off so we just used another colour over top it wasn't the perfect mix but looked okay. What i should have done is have her to stamp that top 2nd layer in the same colour on another cardstock and layer it with a stampin' dimensional.
I have borrowed this set many times, and now have a set of my own thanks to a great trade opportunity I found on SCS!
Last year I did scrapbook pages and Mother's Day cards using Terrific Tulips. I used Cameo Coral for the larger flower image, Real Red for the smaller inside flower image. Then I used Garden Green for the stem, and for the leaf I used Garden Green also, but stamped it off first to get a lighter shade. I think the coral, red and green shades are so beautiful together.
Is there a chance Terrific Tulips will retire? Has it been around for a long time?
I plan on ordering it too, in March. The samples on SCS are sooo beautiful!!
I love this set. I am using it for 2 different weddings. One wedding color is plum. So naturally I'm using the pale plum and the perfect plum. The other wedding is a pinkish color. So I'm using pretty in pink and positively pink. The positively pink is a little deeper than I want so I stamp first on a scrap paper then use the second generation for my actual image. I've been using mellow moss and old olive for my stems. I think I have over used this set. I just can't get enough of it. I've also been making tons of checkbook covers using this set. I do not use the Stampamajig. I just stamp. It looks great when they are all different. Great stamp set, enjoy!
