I have everything to make some stamped tile trivets, but I had a couple of questions for those of you who have made them before.
1) Since I plan to use these as actual trivets and they may come in contact with heat, do I need to seal them with something "special"? Or do I not seal them at all?
2) What type of adhesive would you recommend to help me attach a square of corkboard to the bottom of each tile?
I have made coasters using these tiles. Some sprayed with acrylic sealer, some not. On one set I only sprayed 2 light coats and these coasters are awesome for cold drinks. On another set about 5 light coats were sprayed and these do not work well with hot beverages like coffee mugs. The ones that are were not sprayed work well for either but the ink does slightly start to wear off. Hope this helps.

I have always used acrylic sealer - high gloss. NO matter which acrylic sealer you buy, they all are dulling! Instead of the high cost of cork, which I have done on many of my coasters, I purchased wooded screw covers from my hardware store. They are the small wooded 'caps' that you would put into furniture to cover your holes. (baby cribs have them). They are much cheaer and look just as nice. and if you want, you can paint them to match or leave them natural. I used clear caulk, again, from the hardware store to glue them on. Very durable and looks great!
If you are set on the cork, I used a rubber cement that you can find at the hardware store. The bottles I purchase have a brush on them, and it can be brushed right on the tile
If you are going to use them for coasters.....make a reverse mask and only seal the image. Otherwise they won't absorb moisture if the whole top is sealed.
I used a gloss sealer for mine and they work well. I don't put things directly from the oven on them, though. I ran my cork through my Xyron to adhere to the back. HTH and have fun!
OK I have a follow up ? to this. I did spray with an acrylic matt sealer but its all starting to come off. What did I do wrong?

I am going to try making coasters at my class this week and I found felt circles (thick) at the hardware store that were thicker then cork. I thought I could have the girls do 4 corners.
As a coaster....Not trivet mind you

I forgot to mention it was a coaster set I did not atrivet oops. Can anyone reccomend a brand of matte Acrylic sealent that actually works?

I've used Krylon spray sealer...both matte and gloss. I also used a brush-on sealer that I found at Michael's near the acrylic paints. Never had trouble with it coming off, so I'm not sure why that happened to you. Did you allow enough dry time? Was the surface free from tile dust? HTH!
