Although I think all these frugal tips are great, time is money.
Someone awhile ago suggested to use the window word punch to make the big scallop circle punch. I thought "Wow thats a great tip but boy it sure is time consuming." I am more then happy to pay a little more so I can punch something in a snap, or just grab my ribbon thats already the color I want or the prima I already want. I use to be very frugal about stamping and I ended up wasting more money.
So since Im not frugal this is how I save money without the frugality. ;)
I do use coupons whenever I can, I wont buy something I dont need even though I have a Joanns coupon good for this week.
Same things with Sales, I dont go to Hobby Lobby when they have 50% off their ink and buy what I dont need.
I buy quality products so I dont have replace them as often.
I threw out my mono adhesive (snail) and bought an ATG Tape Gun. I have spent maybe 20 dollars on adhesive in the past year and it sticks a lot better than mono.
I am do a lot more critical thinking when I buy. When I first started stamping I bought so much stuff, because I thought I needed 300 stamp sets and plus every gadget out there, and all the paper out there. Now I really analyze what I need and what I will use. That has saved me a lot because I am at a place in my hobby where I am know what I will use and what is a waste of money and time.

I agree! I found I was spending way too much money on things I didn't need just because they were on sale. Now I browse the stores and wait for a 50%off coupon to buy supplies I do actually need. I am buying an ATG tape gun because I am so tired of my projects falling apart when I use Mono. It is expensive and doesn't even hold together!

I read in the tools section and haven't seen it cheaper, www.framingsupplies.com. I am going to get one, if you add it up the adhesive is 3X more for the mono!
Once I've used the foam dots, I save the piece they came from and cut it into little pieces to use as pop dots. I too bought the Refresher at AC Moore.
I do lots and lots of stamping and go through 2-3 red Duck rollers a week. Would this gun save me money?
Definitely, I bought 5 rolls of the adhesive that goes in the gun at $2.30 a piece you get 36 yards back in august. I am just about done with my last roll. I have made hundreds of cards and projects since I got it. So in about a year I spent $11.00 on adhesive.

Hi I am just curious. Does framing supplies charge shipping and tax? I love my 1/4 #714 and am thinking about another one for 1/2 " tape?

I'm sure most of you already know this one but thought I'd put it out there again for those of you who haven't bought this product yet. For cleaning your stamps awesome spray cleaner at the dollar store is great for your stamps and works just as good as SU cleaner mist. It's a huge bottle for $1.00. I have 2 in my basement and I have them for a long time. I just keep refilling my old stampin bottle. since the smaller bottle is easier to take with me when I travel.

Sarah, have you ever had a problem with tape sliding off the side of the ATG dispenser, I guess I assume not or you wouldn't still be using it. A new
mono gave me that problem TFS Carolyn

One little word of warning...all is fair in stamping cards, but you need to be a little more cautious when you're stamping for scrapbooks. If it's not ph neutral it will eat your paper and pictures over time. (It being glue, paper, or any other part of the product.)
I got some tags at an office supply store picturing how cute they'd be on a scrapbook page and they tested very acidic
Saving money is good, but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and pay a little extra for the quality.
That's a great point to mention. How do you test for acidic? Thanks...

Mine didnt come off but it did slide around a bit. I figured out that when I was using it I wasnt applying pressure evenly. I was sort of holding on an angle. Now it doesnt do that anymore. HTH.
I am of two minds on this. I agree that you get what you pay for. In some things I want quality. I do love finding things at the dollar store, walmart...etc....I try them and with 6 kids who come up and stamp with me I have an area that I can put my "cheap" stuff and let them use without the worry of them hurting my "pretties" Having stuff I don't have to stress over makes stamping enjoyable for all of us.
I am now on a budget and planning my spending much better. I love my SU Demo. She will tell us if there is a cheaper way...I respect her for that, and don't feel like I am being duped. It makes for greater sales for her.
I agree that when you go cheap you usually get what you pay for. But when I'm trying out a new product or technique that I know I'll probably mess up a few times as I learn, then I use the cheap stuff first until I feel confident enough to chance the nicer stuff. For example, I really want to try the transparencies, but I know that I'll mess a few up so I'll probably get really cheap ones from Walmart to play with until I like my result. I may not get as nice a result by using cheap supplies, but I'm just trying to improve my technique at first.
"1.I use a small clipboard for embossing. It's great because you can clip the paper to hold it and you won't ruin the surface of your table or burn you fingers."
--Thank you so much for that tip!

Never used magic mesh, what's if for and how do you use the drywall tape.
Magic mesh kind of is like a roll of mesh a few inches wide that is sticky on one side and you can use it in pieces for accents on cards. Kind of makes me think of the Stampin' Up Cheesecloth Background stamp only this adds texture to cards when you use it. Drywall tape looks pretty much the same, but a bit cheaper, and you can rub ink on it to color it.
It is called "Awesome". It can be found at most dollar stores. And it is
indeed awesome!
Thanks, I will go to the dollar store today and see if they have any. At the fair today, a lady gave me a half bottle of ultra clean that I get to try too. That was so nice of her.
My best frugal tip....and I am very frugal...is to not buy a ton of stuff right away! See what you will use. I went crazy when the "addiction" hit me and now I have pastels that I don't like..bought cheap ones, and now have the SU ones.
The nice part about having things that are not SU or really great quality is that I keep them out where my daughter can stamp and I don't have to stress...so I guess it works out.
I love this thread though!
I do use the Simple Green to clean stamps...it works great...with some glycerin.
I have reinked my versamark with glyceren but it does not keep the watermark look after a while. BUt I do keep that stamp pad for embossing.
I save money by making all my own wire embellishments like spirals. I get some 18 or 20 gauge craft wire at my local store or from my favorite beading store if I'm feeling snazzy, quick snip with the wire cutters and twist it up. Seriously it takes like 15 seconds and I can make them any color/size/shape I want. I also make card pins and such- just get a beading headpin, add a couple beads on there and then finish with a crimp bead- very easy and loads of fun to make.
I also get almost all my fibers from my MIL who knits Best frugal tip- find an old lady who knits and grab her leftovers! You'll never run out of fibers again! But, even buying an entire skein of yarn from HobLob is usually cheaper than the SU fibers. Especially when they're having the 40% off sale! Woohoo!!

This is a very odd thread. It started off by giving money saving tips and then when off tangent at various points and even became a pro Stampin' Up thread at various stages.

I think this is excellent advice. I just think about all the stamps I bought when I first started and have never used. These days when I look at a stamp and if I can't think of three or more ways to use, I put it back down. And if possible, I buy UMs... I don't mind the hassle of cutting and mounting. To me the savings is worth it. And when you live in stamping wilderness, a saving is really a saving.
I've been stamping for 11 years now, and I find that stamping is very fad driven unfortunately. There's one thing I've learnt from my brother is not to buy something in its infancy but to give it time, to allow the bugs to be ironed out. Same with technology.
In Australia, we don't have coupons and we have to be super frugal about how we make every single dollar count since we pay double or triple what our N.American friends have to pay.
I love to save by buying at Wal-mart. My hubby works there so we get the 10% discount. Besides a lot of times that ends up sliding into my Wal-mart budget so I can spend more at my stamp class!!
What I don't spend in "extra" stuff I end up just spending on stamps anyway. So I spend the same amount of money with SU and TAC I just spend my money on the things that I will have a long time not accessories that will only be around through a couple of cards.
My fave money saving trick is this: I color my own staples with Sharpies rather than buy the colored staples. That way I don't have a bunch of colored staples that I will never use. I don't remember where I learned this trick but it's one of my faves.
Being from Canada we don't have Georgia Pacific cardstock at our Walmart. I have gone to 3 different Walmarts in the states looking for it and can't find it. Can someone tell me which department its located in. I've looked in the stationary and electronics department for it. No luck. I would love to try it.

I found it with the office supplies right next to the computer paper at my Walmart.
