I found that if I take a scrap piece of paper from my printer and punch with my cardstock I get a cleaner punched shape. It works with all the punches and even with the paper trimmer. Lay the scrap paper under your cardstock while punching and cutting. HTH

Well i'm with TexasJody on the CM punches. I have almost all of their sizes and shapes (before I became a SU demo) and i've never had a single problem with any of them! Sorry to hear so many people are having problems with their punches
Funny thing these punches, I started my punch saga about three weeks ago and now two new shipments later from SU! I have a nice cutting 13/8 square punch! This last time Josh told me they would check the punch BEFORE they shipped it to me. I told him to make a note that I can not in good conscience sell defective material to my customers and that this was my THIRD try at getting a good punch! He told me they are always glad to have feedback esp if something is not working right b/c they can then keep an eye on quality! I think perhaps they just had a bad batch from the distributor b/c buy my third call, DS was very aware of the problem and I am sure it was not just because I was calling for the third time!!! LOL So let's not give up on SU! and their whale tales...I have the older model and let me tell you, the whale tale model is sooooooo much nicer to use and now that it is clean cutting....ahhh it works so well!
I'm laughing reading this thread. Sanding, filing, freezing, aluminum foil, waxed paper, trimming fuzzy edges?????.....If it's a brand new punch, you shouldn't need to do any of that!
Send them back! They're defective! You shouldn't have to "fix" a brand new tool!

i had problems last year with my daisy punch. i called demo support and they were great! they sent out a replacement one to me right away. my square punch from last year works great so i think that there must be a defective batch out there. i'm pretty sure that are punches are made by EK success.
Mine square punch works perfectly....have not had any trouble at all...I have not had any customer complaints on those that have bought them. But now I will keep a ear out to see if any customers have trouble with theirs.

My CONVEX and CONCAVE punches do the same thing
Huh? We(SU) have convex and concave punches????
Where????
NY Nan
You will find them on the same page as the rest of the punches 222 b3 and b4 are the two item numbers for the page...they are smaller than the square punches and very cute!
Well, I don't know if this is somthing everyone wants to hear... BUT my Creative Memories punches work great. Of course when I was a demo I never used them in front of people, but as a "customer" we have a right to a punch that works. If you want for personal use, I strongly suggest the CM punches. They are great. Everything else I have is SU though (just so you know I am pro SU ).
p.s. no, I don't sell CM...
I have CM square punches as well as SU ones. I totally agree! The CM ones ROCK!

There are 3 types of people in the world. Those that can count and those that can't.
CM has square, circle, star, heart, six sided (can't ever remember those!) and cool wavy edged rectangles or squares. AND I think they have 4 sizes of all the others except for the new wavy edged. I don't own any, my good friend is a CM consultant and I borrow!
My only problem has been my double circle punch - it only punches one piece of card stock - barely punches thru CS and vellum. I realized it too late to be able to return. I like my SU square punch, nice that they have 2 sizes. I can work with my square punch easier than CM, but I like the CM punches.
I am on my 4th square punch from Stampin Up (1-1/4" size). And the 4th one works like it should. No frayed edges. I just kept returning the ones they sent and hopefully SU will get the message - many defective square punches. I bought the larger square punch last year and it has always worked properly.
It seems to be a quality control issue and I would recommend asking for a replacement punch.
If I were all of you I would call SU. They buy from people based on prices and quality. If yours aren't working theywill replace them and also look for a better supplier. They ran into problems with their first eyelet kits and backed the buyers totally.
You really need to let them know. It hurts their business and yours if you are a Demo. They really need to know from each of you.
My large square punch works pretty good...I use a fine nail file to smooth the edges if needed. I have although had punches that were defective and returned them.
I bought my big square and circle punch from Beverly's with a 40% coupon and never had a problem. I cannot find the little square and circle punch anywhere so I am about to buy them from SU!. Hopefully I'll have no problems with them.
Can anybody tell me, if the small punches match the size of the small tags offered by SU! ? I know the big ones do...
My only problem has been my double circle punch - it only punches one piece of card stock - barely punches thru CS and vellum.
I used mine to punch through a bunch of two-layered pieces of cardstock tonight. I can not use my 1/8" eyelet setter or it will wake everyone up in the house. So I was stuck using this (I am making 75 party favors).
Try this:
Holding the punch upside down and cs layers inserted, rest the top portion (where the two dot sticker is) on your worksurface. I did mine on the lip of my desk at an angle.
Then rest the palm of your hand that is not holding the lever of the punch down on top of the bottom of the punch. Squeeze the lever and push down with your palm at the same time.
This method worked for me but if I did not push down with my palm I felt like I was going to break the darn thing.
I do not have any of the SU square punches. Yes CM square punches work great, but I've had mine for over 8 years and they do require the suggested maintenance....just so you know SU card stock is almost too heavy for CM punches...push on a hard surface. Thanks for the freezer suggestion!
Wow! Talk about a blast from the past! I saw that the thread was started 6 years ago and just read from start to finish. Look at all those faces that aren't hanging around anymore! <sniff!> I miss them!
