Default The universal setter in SU tool kit

What am I doing wrong??? I am really hating the universal eyelet setter in SU Crafter's Tool Kit. I end up splitting the eyelet.... so I try not to hammer as hard but then it dose not fan out like my setter from Making Memories. The poor eyelets end up looking like I pond the crap it of them.... which I did. What am it doing wrong??? GRRR

I have found the setter works best if you have a REALLY sturdy table or piece of wood underneath what yo uare pounding.

Different brands of eyelets behave differently when set, and different brands of setters don't set the same way, either. Some eyelets are softer than others. I always hide the back of my eyelets and I set them using special pliers I found on eBay, so I don't worry too much about deforming the front or mangling the back as long as the eyelet is able to stay put.

Are you using SU eyelets? I've found that my setter works best with them.

I did the same thing. The first time I used it (at a Stamp Camp) the eyelets kept splitting. Then I read the directions! Hammer the universal setter a couple of times, remove the setter, and hammer the back of the eyelet once to flatten out.

I also find my Making Memories setter works best b/c it does fan out the eyelets.

I have found marble to be the best pounding surface. I use my window sill!

Default The universal SU eylet setter

If you tap it with a little bit of force but not to much it will flatten it but not flaten the roounded side.

I too like the way the making memories setter fans out the back of eyelets. Now I'm making myself use the one I bought with the tool kit because that is what I sell.

So, I finally read the directions and hey, it works! I give it one good tap with the setter then remove it and tap it with the hammer. Doing this I do not get any splitting problems. Before I read the directions I just pounded the heck out of it because that's what you do with the making memories one but not the case with the SU!

Good luck!

When you use the SU setter and SU eyelets does the eyelet fan out? I have a supply of Joannes eyelets ( which really suck because they are so long in the back) I don't think I will buy from there anymore. I have a friend who actually cuts the backs down, and then she has more luck.

When I use the SU setter pounding gently it just rolls the ends over, is that how it is supposed to work? Or is it supposed to fan out?

I have both MM and SU eyelets. The few times I was using my SU universal setter I was using my MM eyelets so that I would not waste my SU eyelets. I guess I need to play around with the universal setter w/ the SU eyelets... (Kind of gave up) Reading this thread I'm realizing my mistake... I'm so use to my Making Memories setter fanning out and thought the universal was suppose to do the same. I did not read the directions. What would I have done with out you all?

Hi, I found that if you use a block of wood ( I always use a wood cutting board) you can really hammer the eyelet down and not have to worry about ruining your table etc!

I bought the making memories setter because it does set the eyelets so much nicer and you can just buy that one piece at Michaels so I did and put it in my SU tool kit.
