Okay this is a stupid question but I am just now discovering the joy of "naked stamps". If I buy the "slimline" cd cases, will the unmounted but still having foam on them stamps fit in them and still close. They are much cheaper than the regular cases but I am ordering them on-line and can't get a real feel for how think they are from the pic....Anybody know?
see post #4 above. She gives a source for CD cases. pretty good deal, even though you have to buy a lot! maybe someone you stamp with could share???
when you unmount your stamps, specifically SU stamps, do you leave the cushion on it or you remove it from it completely...? by cushion i mean the grey part between the wood and the rubber....???
i am a hobby demo thinking about unmounting my stamps for space sake....
I leave the cushion on if I can (peel them off VERY carefully). Then you don't have to worry about remounting on EZmount, because the grey part will be sticky enough to allow it to cling to the acrylic blocks. When the stick wears off, just use TIO.
Someone shared this tip on a unmounting thread I read, sorry I don't remember who, but they saved me a fortune in EZ mount so I am passing it along
.........
I've found that the Palette ink actually works better (for me) than Stazon. The Stazon ink seems to always transfer to the CD case even if I let it dry for a few hours or overnight.
Kimberly
I have always uses Stazon on the back of my cling, but it does seem to transfer off onto what ever surface the stamp is clinging too.
Palette ink pads don't seem widely available in the UK, but I do have one pad which is described as a "hybrid ink". I was never quite sure what that meant. Is it a permanent ink like Stazon? It sounds like it might be better for stamping on the cling as without an image on the reverse that I can see through the acrylic block I often stamp stuff like text upside down in moments of absent mindedness.

thanks for the photos sure helps when getting ready to do this a bit overwhelming and scary
I just finished unmounted the rest of my wood mounted stamps. WHEW! What a task. I have a big banker's box full of rubber sorted by company or category (based on how I sorted them when they were mounted on wood).
My box of 200 clear CDs cases with no tray just arrived this afternoon from Rima. (With shipping, this figures out to 20 cents per CD case.)
Now I am waiting for the 31 sheets of EZ Mount to arrive. I have a feeling this isn't nearly enough but at least I know I can get more should I need it.
My CD spine labels arrived on Friday from Onlinelabels.com. (I split the order with a few other TAC gals because I didn't think I would need 8000 labels! That's good because it only figured out to 24 cents per sheet of 80 labels.) I figured out how the right dimensions to add this custom size label to Word so that I can just do a mail merge from a spreadsheet export from Splash Shopper. This program is on both my computer and my PDA so that I always have my inventory of all of my stamping supplies with me.
I also had to order more storage for my CD cases. I found this to be a good purchase from Amazon.com. Each case holds 30 CDs and they are stackable. $6.99 each and it's eligible for the free shipping option if your total is over $25.
I'm also a late-comer to the hot knife thing... as I've been a die-hard Kai scissors user. I bought mine from Sunday International but did find that Michaels sells the same thing and you can use a coupon on it. This works slick for cutting the EZ Mount foam around precut rubber. I still plan to use the Kai scissors on rubber that comes in sheets but for the rubber I've ripped from the wood mounts, this is the quickest for me.
I use the ez mount - to me it makes the stamped image clearer and easier to stamp. I put a piece of fun foam under the paper I am stamping on as well to even out any inconsistancies under the surface. I have umounted about 400 sets and almost a 1000 single stamps. Big job but worth it.
There is still some adhesive on the back of my 'naked' stamps. Is there a way to safely remove this from the rubber? I bought Aleene's Tack & Tack which doesn't leave nasties on the acrylic block like the leftover adhesive does. Someone mentioned using Purell Hand Sanitizer to clean the block, but that doesn't seem to work.

For what this is worth. I advised on freecycle that I was looking for cd cases and got a bankers box full. I have to take the centers out but that is pretty cheap. Yes I did have to drive to get them, but where I live I would of had to drive regardless.
jmtaylor-great idea for cd cases. I have been unmounting my stamps since Dec. then ran out of ez mount, cd cases, money, and time. Glad I've done it and will finish eventually!
I do not have EZ Mount and don't think I will be able to get it, at least for the price I am willing to pay (I live in British Columbia, Canada).
Given that, when I unmount my stamps, which I AM going to do, I will need to leave the foam on, correct?
Either use the bit of tackiness for the remaining adhesive to adhere to the acrylic block, or clean it up then use Aleene's Tack It Over and Over...
Right?
I think I can get TIOAO at Michaels here in town.
I am using the method here since EZ mount was so expensive. It is very cheap. The only problem is they are not as clingy as EZ mount for storage but work fine on my blocks. Just be sure to buy the right vinyl as the wrong stuff doesn't stick at all.

If you don't want to buy EZ Mount, all you have to do is use the sticker. First take the stamp off the block with the foam still attached (microwave for 10 seconds first). Dont' clean up the stickiness at all!
Then take the sticker off the block and adhere it to the back of your foam and trim.
Then use Tack-it-Over-and-Over on the sticker side and let it dry (yes you can get it at Michaels). It's a practically free way to unmount and you can "see" what you're stamping since the sticker shows through.
HERE is a video I found from someone who does this the same way I do.
I have a priority box full of them brand new without inserts that I got from Rima.com that I would send you for just the postage....Let me know if you want them.
blessings.

I'm not sure if you were talking to me but I would love the cases for postage if you still want to get rid of them. PM me a price on postage & how you would like me to pay.

I saw your other post saying the postage would be $10.30 for 30. It looks like it would be cheaper for me to buy them locally. But I appreciate the offer.
How does unmounting SU stamps affect the resale value? That is if you can ever stand to part with any?
Lori
Not sure how it would affect them but the values are so low I decided not to worry about it. I have sets that were about $25 & now are selling for $1-5 a set on Ebay. So I decided to just keep them or donate them to the Ronald McDonald house. The tax deduction would be better than the hassle of selling them for almost nothing.
Anyone know where to get a good deal on CD cases besides Rima. They are sold out. :(
If you are still looking for cd cases, I saw in our Big Lots/Odd Lots that they had all the InkStop products, including cases of cd cases.

Anyone still looking for full sized CD cases? I have oodles that I rescued from being tossed by my work place. More than I could ever use. I just hated to think about them taking up space in a landfill, when they could be put to good use. I'd like to offer them up to anyone interested for $1 for 10, plus actual shipping cost. I can even remove the inner plastic cd trays, which will reduce the overall weight of the package. I can ship Parcel Post, which is the most cost effective, if that is what you want. I'm new to SCS, so what is the best way of connecting with people who might want these cases?
Subscribing, thinking about taking the plunge! I just started cataloguing my acrylic stamps and when I am done I am "almost" convinced to unmount my wood!
