Have any of you used photographs in making cards? Not necessarily a card being sent to Grandma with little "Emily's" picture in it ... but have you used photographs as part of the art work?
I have this wonderful picture of my mother ... under her picture it says "School Days 1940 - 1941". She would have been 13 or 14 years old in that picture. She has the sweetest smile. I have this picture (and copies of it) by my computer and look at it every day ... waiting for the perfect idea to come to mind.
Mom passed away on December 27, 2002 ... and I know my Aunts would love to recieve a card that I have incorporated Mom into ....
To add to this - since you're thinking about making it a card.... if they are scrappers, they could then incorporate it into a scrapbook page if they chose to - or, maybe attach a magnet to it and would have it to put on the refrigerator, etc... I'm thinking that they would have to cut the back of the card off so it would be just a cardfront, but something to think about. I know if I received something like this that you had put the time and effort into, and it had a picture, I would want to do something to save it and be able to look at it....
Tape transfers are done with a xerox copy of a picture and clear packing tape.
**copy your photo on a copying machine (ink jet printers don't work) then
put tape over the image and burnish it well with a bone folder
**cut off excess paper
**soak taped image in water for at least 5 minutes to make sure paper is soaked
**then start rubbing (with your fingers) the paper off the back of the tape
the ink of your photo image will stick to the tape but you will be able to rub all of the paper away, after drying the tape still has a little stickiness to it so you will be able to adhere it to card stock without any more adhesive.
I plan on making bookmarks and cards for Christmas using this technique.

I have just recently started adding photographs to the front of cards. For example, I made a birthday card for my uncle with a photo of a double rainbow that i just happened to capture out my back door. I put a piece of paper underneath the photo and i added a tiny tag that said Happy Birthday with a brad to hold it on. Came out really cute!
I also have made a sympathy card with a photo of a flower (bird of paradise) in my yard and put With Sympathy underneath. I thought both were real nice.
Photography is my other 'love' next to stamping. So, being a grandma with 7 grandchildren ranging in age from 9-22, I have many, many photos over the years.
For the past few years, I have taken a baby picture of the birthday child along with a recent photo and incorporated that into their cards...sorta like a before/after type of thing. From the oldest right down to the youngest, they all love getting their Birthday cards each year.

Sandy -
That is a wonderful idea! My nephew is turning 21 this month ... that would be a great idea.
How do you incorporate the photo into the card? Do you frame and mount on front? Or do you use some of the tranfer techniques discussed earlier in this post?
If it is a photo I want to keep, I go to WalMart and make copies. Sometimes it is an extra that I haven't used or the second one of the 'doubles' they give.
Depending on their gender, age, hobbies etc. I try to use that for a theme.
Hope that helps.

I"ve used photos in my cards several times. I usually use a black and white or sepia toned photo I've printed onto cardstock and mount it onto a white cardstock and use deckle sissors to cut around the edge so it looks sort of like the old photos. I usually attach it with the photo mount corners too... and a bit of glue on the back of the pic because they never hold very well! I think they turned out pretty well. I'll upload a picture sometime, there wasn't any stamping on them though!

How is it that I miss replies when I'm on this site like 24/7! Anyways I just now read this. Here is just a plain sample of one of the cards i was talking about without embelishments or anything. Also I didn't take the picture and I have noidea who did so please don't use it for anything... because I don't know what the copyrights are for it.
Thanks bunch!
