I'm not sure what it might be in the UK but wax paper is a see-through paper that is covered in wax on both sides. Can be used in baking to prevent things from sticking to the pan. Similar to parchment paper but waxier. Something similar may be butcher or freezer paper? I'm not one to spend much time in the kitchen though so my assessment of the various kitchen papers may be a little off ;)

thanks for this. I have seen the tutorial for stamping on candles so I'll look at freezer paper and see if that might do it.

Thank you for replying.

It is interesting you do not have wax paper in the UK. When I was a little girl I had a long slide in the backyard, and me and my siblings would make it super fast and shiny by sitting on wax paper as we went down. I think it is a lot like vellum, only has a waxy feel.

Wink wax paper

I do believe grease-proof paper is the term used across the pond. Not sure though as none of the translating sites seem to recognize wax or waxed paper. Give it a go though.

1... I made the "stamped candles" before anyone told me that I should hold down the tissue paper with a piece of waxed paper.
I tore the tissue paper so that it had a little "finger room." I was very careful to start the heat moving over a spot away from my fingers. Once the tissue began to hold, I could get my fingers out of the way of the heat gun. (Only slipped once... ouch!)

2... You might try parchment paper. The kind used for lining a cake pan. Sometimes the liner in a box of breakfast cereal, cookies or crackers is made of waxed paper (but more likely these days to be plastic which wouldn't work).

3... Okay, this is three.... I found a couple of other names online. Paraffin paper. Deli paper.

Butcher paper is not the same as wax paper. Wax paper is paper that has wax on both sides, as previously posted and is more translucent. Butcher paper is white paper w/a coated finish, it's opaque, (you can't see through it) although the colors may vary. Freezer paper is more similar to butcher paper than wax paper, as freezer paper has a glossy coating on one side of the paper and is also opaque.

In Holland we don' t have wax paper also. We can only buy little sheets in one stampstore and that's it!

Yes. Rule out freezer paper. It is coated with plastic not with wax.
The main reason for using another piece of paper when decorating candles, is to hold the tissue paper down while you are heating the surface of the candle. The reason that waxed paper works is that both the candle and the paper are made with the same thing -- wax.
