a flower pot with wildflower seeds. The pots were painted and there was a cute message about planting seeds and watching their love grow. It was wrapped in tule and had a cute little shovel.

I am kind of partial to my wedding favors:

We gave each person a votive candle with a message on it that said "Thanks for Brightening Our Day" with our names and wedding date. The candles were 2 different colors that we used in the wedding.

I did the same thing with candles for my wedding. The only difference was that I put them into a plastic easter egg and wrapped them in tulle because my wedding was the day before easter. They came out so cute!

We did something altogether different. We had a 4 X 6 picture printout with one of our engagment pics on the one side, and with the other side having words (kinda like what families send out at Christmas with a family picture and "Merry Christmas" on the side - make sense?) The writing said Thanks for sharing our special day, we had our new address and phone # and then wrote: "to show our appreciation for your presence on our special day we have donated funds to _____________" (we donated to a inner-city kids summer camp), but you put your favourite charity here. Therefore, we ended up giving away the money we had budgeted for favours and everyone still got something to take home.

We also got little chinese food take-out boxes (from a big paper warehouse) and I stamped on them for all the kids at the wedding, filling them with candy, and with little socks for the babies. Turned out really nice!

I find unless you are close family, the wedding favours end up in the garbage soon after the wedding. I for one go to waaaaaay too many weddings to keep all the trinkets I get.

Just another idea for you.

I really enjoy unique wedding favors, and I think ones that represent an interest of the couple are especially neat! Come up with something that your daughter or her groom-to-be enjoy and have fun with it!

My husband is a high school football coach, and our dating lives centered around that. So for our wedding, we bought 350 of the mini white plastic footballs (the kind that cheerleaders throw out at games), and we had our names, date, and a cute message put on them. We even had all of our groomsmen and bridesmaids throw them out at the reception. It was a blast! Seven years later, I still have people comment on the fun of the footballs!

melody--that is such a fun idea!
I made bookmarks for my niece's wedding and we just put them at the place settings. At the end
of the night most of them were gone, but I was still sad to see the remaining ones laying on tables.
The jr bridesmaid was 9 and she asked if she could have all the ones that were left so she would
always have one if one got lost ! Anyway--deifnitely choose something that people will want to keep.
I wasn't crazy about the bookmark idea, but she had seen it done by someone else....
I am helping out with a wedding this summer and they are also making a donation to a charity
in lieu of favors.

My oldest son brought back a CD from a friend's wedding - it was really great - it had pictures of the couple on the cover and on the inside (and on the CD itself). The couple picked their favorite songs (but no heavy metal...more like the Beatles, show tunes, etc). It is actually one of my favorite CDs.

My son will be getting married sometime next year (still can't get them to commit to a date!), but I'd like to see them do a CD as well.

One of my co-workers did the CD thing and EVERYONE loved it. It's something you can make really personal and it's not something people will leave behind.

I'm going to be a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding this summer and she's going to do CDs too. I'm going to help her with the jewel case inserts - something stamping related of course!

I have always thought that the CD thing was great also - but I have received 2 at different weddings (with entirely different likes) and I have only listened to each of them once.

But it is definitely something that no one will leave!

When I did the votives - there were hardly any left either - everyone can use a candle! (There were actually people walking around and picking up the extras to take home with them!)

I been to a lot of weddings and a few wedding favors came to my mind:

1. A Hershey kiss rose. Take two hersey kisses and put them end to end. It should look like a rose bud. Take red, pink, or whatever color you like cellaphane and wrap it tightly around the "bud". Next, use a floral pick and floral tape and wrap a stem around it.

2. One wedding, the couple hired a photographer with the digital/instant photo. As we came into the wedding reception, we all got a photo with the bride and groom.

3. Another wedding gave a very pretty Chinese brocade hanging lantern-type thing

4. At my former roommate's wedding, she bought amount of homemade jam. She put her own labels on them with their names and wedding date and tied a pretty gingham bow around the jar. She did this because she wanted everyone to take something home to use.

The best advice on wedding favors is to do something that reflects yourself and your husband. The creative ones are the best. Candles are ok, but I think they been overdone. I hope that helps.

How's this for quirky and original? My husband and I started dating after spending FAR too many nights talking until dawn. So for our wedding, we wanted something fun... we found wind up chomping teeth! We put them in stamped cello bags and attached a tag that said, "May your life be blessed with rich conversations and joyful laughter, just as ours surely will be." The kids definitely got a kick out of them, and I can't tell you how many people had races at their tables with them.

Moral of the story is... definitely go for something that fits your personalities. While many people don't keep their favors for long, they CAN remember them for a long time!

Our wedding reception was in the middle of June, so in May my mom
and I painted small terra cotta pots and stenciled them. I then planted
them with petunias, pansies, etc. and let them grow in the pots for a month. I did big pots of flowers for the centerpieces. On the day of the reception I tied our thanks for sharing our day message on with
ribbon. They were very cute and most people took them home and I had lots of flower baskets for my house after.

Good Luck,
Shannon

I am so glad that there are so many wonderful responses to this. My oldest daughter is getting married later this year and we are trying to come up with ideas too.
One of my cousins placed disposable cameras on the tables and the bride and groom asked everyone to take pictures with the cameras.
Everyone had a blast and the bride and groom got some really great reception and dance photos the photographer didn't get. They all put the cameras in a box at the door before leaving.
We saw in a brides magazine this idea and they stamped a wrap to cover the ugly one that came on the camera. I was thinking of doing this....but not by myself. What do you think?????

Default wedding favors

Hubby & I ordered ink pens and had our names and wedding dates put on. We've been married 6 years and the pens are still going strong.

I LOVE the donation to charity idea - my daughter is getting married this summer too and most of the guest will be out of town - the little trinkets will be lost in the shuffle. Must pass these along to her.

I did the votive candle thing for my wedding too. I was lucky that I found votive candle holders on sale at Michael's 4 for a $1. They were normally a dollar each so I couldn't pass that up! We also did our wedding colors for the candles. I cut squares of tissue paper and wrapped them in tissue paper tying the top with ribbon. Because I got married at Christmas time I stuck a little candy cane in the ribbon when I tied it for a little festive touch. That could be done with those small rings, bells or even small flowers. Simple and cute!
