Hello Ladies! Sorry this is a day late - have been busy with wedding plans.
This weeks challenge is to deal with all those ribbons and fibers if you have not done so allready.
There are lots of ways of doing this. Take a look in the gallery here.
I have my ribbons in a shoe box for now, all just piled in there if they are on a spool. As for my fibers, I have wound them on the plastic floss bobbins for x-stitch, then put them on the rings by color family. I then have these in another shoe box. I find this works for me.
What do you do? Share your ideas here to help inspire others.
I have seen where some people just put all their ribbons in tall clear glass jars by colors, then have the jars all lined up on a shelf. It lookd really pretty!
Hi,
I am still on week one!!!LOL!! But I did have to share that my husband made me a ribbon holder. It is like a quilt rack and has dowel rods going across from which I hang the spools of ribbon. It sure has helped me get my ribbon in one place. I put fibers in sandwich bags and poke a hole and hang. Next week I am going to Archivers to make the ribbon box. So I will see how that works too!!
Thanks for doing this. It has helped me move "out of the house" and into my stamp room-- if that makes sense!!!!
Have a great day!!

I have a couple of the Target ribbon holders that were hot a few months back. My rolls of ribbon are on those, but as for linen thread, hemp, those I have all in a little drawer system that I got from Walmart. They sit right behind my chair so I can just spin around and have quick access to my items.
The putting fibres into a sandwich bag and poking a hole idea is GENIUS!!! I have my loose ribbon and such in sandwich bags, all right, but all birdsnested up and I have to open the top to access them.
This will sound strange but i store my ribbon in a gutter. I bought a 10 foot length of white plastic gutter, got the hardware to attach it to the wall. Organdy and gingham ribbon fit great so does the cording. Grosgrain doesnt fit so well. so I need to find a place to put that.

I have actually seen this and it is very cool! I am still searching a better system for mine- I have them in a very slender 3 drawer system, I don't really like it, but they are organized and put away!

I'm pouring through these weeks trying to catch up to all of you! (While avoiding week #3 callenge - I may find out how many stamps I own!)
Love the baggie idea!!!

Um, well, besides collecting ribbon rolls from M's, etc., I went to Offray Ribbon's outlet THREE TIMES and spent hundreds of $ on ribbon. Three under-the-bed containers hold Christmas, fall, & metallic ribbons; "normal" ribbon are lined up (2 rows) in shoe boxes.
Fibers I bought by the skein, cut, wound on x-stitch-style "bobbins" I made from cardboard, and sell for 50 cents for 5 yards. They're organized in 2 rows in plastic shoe boxes, too. My own stash of 1 or 2 "bobbins" each color is in another plastic shoe box.
I'm blessed with a HUGE, long, cedar-lined walk-in closet for these and some other odd things.
I still have so very, very far to go to organize my place, but these are my "techniques." It will be so nice when I put things where they're supposed to go.

I have a shoebox revamped with holes in the sides for my spools of ribbon. This is a great system, and popular from what I've seen. For my ribbon that was bought by the yard and that has accumulated beyond control (Who knew I had SO MUCH pink ribbon?) lol, I saw a great idea in a magazine that works fabulously-- I have a white shoebox, I cut pieces of cardboard (the stuff that is brown on one side and white & shiny on the other) just a bit smaller than the box. I wrap all the ribbon around these oversize cards and then I can see all the colors without having to dig. Clear as mud??
You guys are gonn alaugh your butt off when you see my "ribbon system"
I used cup hooks.. and strung each spool thru yarn and hugn it all on my cupboard door it looks pathetic, but it is the best alternative for the time being.
Love the idea about using a pin to keep the ribbon from unrolling! (mine are in a puddle on the floor right now under the dowels) AND the fact that you have a ruler and scissors right there! Thanks for the great idea!

omg! I just came across this challenge site and am totally excited about the Getting Organized challenge. Even showed a very good friend who is in the same boat!
Karin, unlike your pictures of an unorganized area, you have motivated me! I'm sure my hubby will thank you after I've completed.
Anywho, I have a small walking path from my stairwell to my computer desk and work station. If you can imagine, I have boxes, paper, su supplies piled on 2 desks, a 5' table, small work station my hubby already made me, not to mention tons of boxes under each of the table tops. Now to get to work, lots to do.... Look forward to catching up to the latest challenge. Thanks again for the extra motivation!
This week will take some time to work on. My problem is I'm not sure what to use. I have embroidery thread in the baggies and clipped together ( a system I'm not too fond of). Some ribbons I have on those flat spools (I'm not sure what they are called) in a cropper hopper. That works great for the ribbons and fibers that fit but I could use the space better for beads and confetti. I also have four glass jars on top of my desk toward the wall that was given as a wedding present. We never used it because it didn't seal properly and ruined the food kept inside. I thought it would be great for fibers separated my color catagorie. I still might do that once I get my papers (stampin up newbie) and use the cropper hopper for neutrals. I almost forgot, I also have ribbin in a smiley face lunch box as well. I really need to get it organized into one system.
