I was wondering which brand of heat gun you all think is the best. I have a Marvy heat tool. The third time I used it, it made a funny sound and died. Needless to say, it's going back to the store. But I thought I'd ask you very experienced stampers which one you recommend. Thanks for your help!

I have a Darice heat tool from Joann's. But I'm a demo and I needed another heat tool for a Stamp Camp, so I bought the SU heat tool. It's really a good one!!! The people at my Stamp Camp used both in the course of the evening, and they all liked SU's better, and one gal bought one, who had never stamped or embossed before that night!
I use the SU! one which I think is made by Milwaukee. I used to use a cheap one and then one of my friends that had the SU! one was at my house using it and she said I HAD to get the SU! one because it was so much better- and it is!

I have a Marvy heat gun. I've had it for probably 8 or more years. That was before SU! carried their own. Anyway, it works fine. If it were to die I'd definitely buy a SU! one.
i have...the colorizer? the doesn't look right but it's something like that. it's the one with two heat settings. i like it well enough, but i'll be getting the su one shortly.
i've used different ones at various workshops/classes and i would say the one put out by su is the best. it gets really hot really fast and it's long so you aren't right on top of whatever you are doing. i really don't care for the short barrel on mine.
some of them are real junk though. i went to a class where there were two, a su heat tool and some brand i don't remember. it was a large class so both were in use to keep things moving--the unknown one was horrible. half of the people using it ended up with scorch marks on their paper while the other half could barely get the ep melted. and then there were the tricky few in the middle--half the image was scorched, the other half didn't melt.
Now my husband uses that one for sealing his wine (don't ask-it is like the Napa Valley in my basement with his new hobby-I swear the ABC board will be here at anytime )

I have had my Marvy for years and have gotten a lot of service out of it. Not to mention that it has suffered terribly over the years. I don't know how many times it has been knocked off the the table or counter. But it still works great!
I also have a couple of the SU heat guns that I take to workshops, etc. The SU heat gun burns a little hotter so you will need to adjust your technique to account for that. They are so shiny and new that I don't like to use them at home due to all of the abuse that they would suffer here!
lol
I have a Nicole, I bought it before I became a demo, it works pretty good, but if it broke I would probably get the SU! one. One word of caution, NEVER leave your heat gun plugged in....one day I was talking to my friend on the phone and I mentioned to her that I heard a humming, and went to investigate, my dog had stepped on the on switch of my heat gun and it was going. Thank God I was home and heard it, it had left a big burn mark on my base board! And it was only on for less than a minute! I always unplug it now.
