What color su stamp pads do you find yourself using the most
I need to choose a few stamp pads for my monthly club order and I don't know what to choose. I only have 2 su stamp pads and I love them, really rust and more mustard. Which colors do you use most often???
Well, I don't have very many myself, but if you want to watercolor anything, you need basic black as it is permanent (doesn't run when water is applied to it). I believe one of the browns is too... for an aged watercolor look. Personally, I love watercoloring cause everything I watercolor looks so nice.
:? I tried, but I couldn't do it! I was going to give you my top 5, then it grew to 10, then 20...You get the idea! Here's my solution:
I got the Stampin' Spots (even though they are tedious to use on the bigger stamps) before I started collecting the full-sized pads just so I could have all the colors. Then I could tell which colors I was using most and started ordering the bigger pads and refills.
I agree that you shold definitely get the basic black... and I also think that if you don't have the white craft pad - get that too... my first choice of color will always be mellow moss... but when I started ordering my pads I did it in color families so maybe start building that way?
creamy caramel is really good for watercoloring shadows.
blues- night of navy or brocade blue
greens- old olive or green galore
reds- ruby red
yellows- more mustard
pinks- pink passion
browns- close to cocoa
I think it depends on which stamps you have. For example, if you have Roses in Winter, get a few pinks like rose red and get mellow moss for sure. That way you'll get better use of your stamps. Lavendar shades work well for Roses in Winter, too.
If you like the ephemera look like the Travel Post set from the summer mini, choc. chip looks really good for that antique look.
Finally, if you have mostly coloring book style stamps, definitely get basic black and choose ink pad colors you can use for watercoloring.
I use Night of Navy a lot too. I also love Ruby Red, Mellow Moss, Garden Green and any shade of brown.
Love all the bold brights! You can't live without the black. Now you can also get the brown (permanent) ink to watercolor with also. I am trying to use some other colors but I tend to go back to the BB often.
Hey, I'm Kimmie's mom too! How old is your Kimmie? Mine is 23 and just got engaged! She's an elementary school music teacher.
Back to your question... You say you love Really Rust and More than Mustard. Then you really NEED Old Olive to get all your nice fall colors! Old Olive is one of my favorites and so is Mellow Moss. They're great for flower stems and leaves.
Other favorites are Night of Navy and Forest Foliage (esp with Christmas coming up) and Baroque Burgandy. Ballet Blue is a great all-around blue. I love YoYo Yellow and Only Orange. Rose Red and Rose Romance are awesome for 2-step stamping.
I'm a new demo and I finally got all the Classic pads - the last ones I got were Going Gray, Choc Chip, and Sage Shadow.
Definitely Real Red, Ballet Blue, Mellow Moss, and Barely Bananna are "core" colors for me.
"Secondary" colors would be pink passion, ruby red, chocolate chip, gable green or green galore and brocade blue.
I agree with the suggestion to buy the spots. That is how I started. Then I realized what colors I used the most and ordered the full sized pads of those colors.
I love the bold brights and ballet blue (which I think is way better than brocade blue!). After basic black, I got lovely lilac, yo yo yellow, ballet blue, pink passion, glorious green, and real red. Brilliant blue and eggplant envy next. I do think the colors you have work great with either garden green or old olive, and I love summer sun and ruby red, and you might want to get one of the browns, etc etc! Have fun deciding what colors to get!
When I started building up my stamp pad collection (I wasn't even aware that there were spots unitl I started coming here) I would pick a project, either out of the catalog or whatever, and just buy the colors for that project. Then, I basically just made due with those colors until my next order. My first 2 were perfect plum and forest foliage. So my cards were those 2 colors for along time! But, I just made a commitment to order 3 or 4 pads at each order, always ones that could go together. It took me awhile, but now I have them all.
So, short story long, maybe go with what you plan on making. Or if you don't have anything in mind, I would suggest you go with the bold bright color family. They are versatile enough that you can cover all the holidays, seasons, etc...
Wow...just choosing 2 - that's tough. I guess some of my favourite colour combos at the moment are Creamy Caramel/Close to Cocoa; Baroque Burgedy with Bordering Blue or Old Olive; Real Red and Glorious Green; Perfect Plum and Pale Plum; Eggplant Envy with Creamy Caramel or Forest Foliage. Gold or silver looks good with most of these combos. Depends on what I'm trying to create and the mood I'm in.
You sound like an Earth Elements person, like me! With the ones you have now, I'd also recommend Old Olive and Basic Black. For your next two or so stamp pads, I'd recommend a blue (my upline recommended Bordering Blue to go with the EE colors) for some contrast, and then the Ruby Red one.
With the Ruby Red one and your Really Rust one, you can do some two-tone red stuff, etc. The blue one would allow you to lighten things up a bit, add another color. Also, since you have More Mustard, getting Summer Sun would be a good choice, too, for two-tone things, like flowers.
I also would recommend the Stampin' Spots. I did a hostess club, too, and each color family comes to a little less than $25 total, with tax and shipping. I ordered one family each month. An easy order, and you can do SO MUCH with them. Of course, I'd recommend that you get the EE set first!
