I just bought some UTEE today and plan on making something with it - either a pin, or using on part of a CD stamped then layered w/ UTEE, or something along thse lines. I was wondering what all of you use UTEE for. I would like to do something w/ my stamp club and would love more ideas!
I love this stuff! I make faux glass, I stamp/impress on it on it, I pour it into molds, etc. It just makes the neatest things. Be careful though if you are going to send it through the mail, you need to add the flex stuff or it breaks.

Hmmm. . . I could stand for somebody to start a bonafide SCS trend with UTEE. I bought one of those Melting Pots when *somebody* mentioned them and JoAnn's had a 50% off coupon, but I haven't used it much. . . Seems like it had to be awfully full of the EP to actually pour any out. And when I tried dipping things, I didn't like having tweezer imprints in the stuff. I would **LOVE** to get inspired to actually use my melting pot/UTEE! :lol:
You guys have to try this stuff. It is really neat. Suze Weinberg had a couple of booklets published by Design Originals "Totally Impressed" and "Melt Art Impressions." UTEE F-L-E-X, by Ranger, is a "flexible additive that makes UTEE more durable."
I just made some mini composition books where I used casting molds to make the embleshiment on the fronts out of UTEE. :oops: I don't have my scanner hooked up so I cannot send you a picture. I'll try to get it done tomorrow.

OK I scanned my images. I made them 640 X 480 and I don't know how to get them included in here so you can see them. Can someone help me? I tried to attach but it wouldn't accept them.
I like to mix some clear UTEE and a little bit of some colored embossing powder.... it gives a very cool effect, kind of like marble. The colored EP comes out like marble veins in the clear UTEE. You just have to add a VERY LITTLE bit of the color EP - just enough to barley tint the clear UTEE.
I love the UTEE Flex. It really makes the UTEE sturdy.
In the melting pot: Try swirling in some of Suze's To Dye For Inks (two or three colors into clear UTEE). Don't overmix; think marbling. In addition, sprinkle (think pinch of salt) two or three other UTEE colors (pearl, black, gold, etc). Pour that onto one of Suze's non-stick sheets (which Michaels now sells). Allow a few seconds for it to firm up, but while still warm run through a die cut machine.
We did this in her class. She had an Ellison (THAT THEY GAVE HER!! - it's like a $1.5K+ machine!) die cut machine and we cut tags out of the warm UTEE. We used the negative for a picture frame! No, I have not tried this with my Sizzix but may tomorrow!
Try cutting the non-stick sheet into 3" or 4" x 8½" sections. Hold the short ends and run the non-stick sheet dipped into the UTEE. This will form a 'skin'. Form the skin, (thin layer of UTEE) into tubes, cones, etc. while the UTEE is warm and pliable. We used these to make bodies & arms for godesses - these were 3D art forms that were mounted into frames. My mom's was the best - she went back to Suze's a few weeks later and taught a class at her studio on these kinds of skins, but using acrylic paint. Woo Hoo! Pics of these are on Suze's website, schmoozewithsuze.com. Go to 'About Suze' then 'Suze's Scrapbook' then 'friends'. Spend four minutes holding the down button. Nice pic of my ma too; I'm the next one down. Fab pic of Tim Holtz too (I Know, I Know!!! ).
Another: pour UTEE onto non-stick sheet. Allow to set up but not cool. with regular scissors cut apart into irregular shapes. Use like tiles. Adhere to picture frames, wooden boxes, etc. Try using molten UTEE, poured from the melting pot, over the UTEE tiles in place of grout. Suze demo'd this on Carol Duvall - very, very cool.
Another: stamp on reg. cardstock. Place cs on non-stick sheet. Pour clear UTEE over, then while molten insert cookie cutter over stamped image. The cookie cutter makes the most beautiful beveled edge. Allow to harden and cool, then pop out UTEE unit from cookie cutter. Under running water rub off cardstock and you are left with a transfer. Adhere this as an embellishment. There is a pic I uploaded of this somewhere here on SCS (see below).
