I am doing a swap (I won't tell you all for what, so that IF it is here on SCS, you all will be surprised, or IF it is local and some of you gals are on here, you will will surprised), and I am wondering if this card is okay--does it need more punch, so to speak? I used the gamsol technique to color, and have backed it on pink and purple, with the organdy ribbon--does it need something else?
I would be greatly appreciative of your HONEST comments--I don't want to hear it's great if you think it needs improvement....
Okay, you asked for honesty...so no feelings hurt! I do think it needs something.....but the only thing I can think is maybe a little glitter in the flowers? I think that might make it jump out a little more!
It is nice ... but I think it could be made better - obviously you do too.
Instead of having the teapot in the centre, what if you moved it to the right a bit. Some design articles I've read recently pointed out that if you divide a card or LO into thirds, the lines are where you should put things ... right in the centre doesn't cause your eye to move anywhere.
So - teapot is moved over, there would be room on the left side to put something - I'm thinking something either yellow or green to bring those colours out - in the upper left corner of the top layer.
Excellent suggestions, all--I agree that it does need something. I don't have the corner punches, but I think that I will try glitter and offsetting the teapot--hope that will work. Thank you all!!!
the layer directly behind the teapot could be a diferent color,, maybe vanilla with a hint of green around the outer edge applyed with a sponge.
great idea to ask for help here, try a little of this or that and just play around untill you're happy.
when we have an idea in our head and it doesn't turn out like we imagined, it can be quite dissapointing.
GOOD LUCK it's almost 'there' I'd like to see the finished creation.

if you don't talk to your cat about catnip who will?
I like the suggestion for a decorative corner punch--seems like that is where it needs a little something. Or you could add some brads or eyelets to the corners. Otherwise, it's very pretty.
It's a cute card. I do agree it needs a little punch (not a literal punch, but something to "spice it up").
Besides the other suggestions, I think a little definition between the layers would help. The top two seem to blend into each other. How about edging the top layer (red krylon or marvey or sponging, etc.) and making the second matt (the pink) a little narrower?

I do like the idea of this design. However, I agree with the postings that suggest a different colour for the layer behind the teapot; perhaps picking up one of the greens used. Off-setting? hmmm, I don't know. Sparkles in one or two of the flowers could help, but don't go too heavy. I don't know that I'd want to distract attention away from the teapot with a fancy corner punch.
Perhaps a few small charms hanging off the pot or a polyshrink mini tag that says "For You" or whatever the theme is hanging from the handle. You could even rough up the edges of the flowers with your fingernail so they sit off the page a bit more. Or use an embossing stylus and indent small portions of the flowers to add texture. Anxious to see what you come up with.
I'd try changing the color that the teapot is mounted on. I think this would make a big difference without any extra work. The teapot is blending into the background right now.
All good ideas, but I think the main thing that is detracting from your focal point (the teapot) is that it blends into the next layer, as others noted. If you can't change the next layer, maybe you could just sponge the edges of the teapot so it will stand out more? Maybe just that and a little glitter on the flowers would really make an impact.
I've also heard about that "third" or "uneven" rule so everything is not so directly centered. Just a few tweaks and you've really got a great looking card! Good luck! Please post your final creation -we'd love to see the "before and after" looks!
Maybe you could put a thin coat of crystal effects over the teapot? That might add the illusion of dimension and make the teapot look a little more "real". Please post the finished one, I'd love to see what you wind up doing!

I agree with stampinspy. If you switched the background with the mat behind it the teapot would stand out.
The card is very pretty and I admire your desire to improve your creation.
I think we should do more of this kind of thread. Reading other people's thoughts can help us all.

My thoughts exactly. I think you need a little tag hanging from the pot. Maybe a little bow around the upper edge of the pot, handle, or around a flower stem, but something hanging would be cute.
the suggestions you are getting are great, your card could use more contrast, someone suggested a darker layer behind the teapot. also maybe darken areas of the teapot and the flowers. what about a darker ribbon....for sure more contrast...it is kinda monocrhomatic (all one value and color.) My art teacher use to tell us to hold your work a little bit away from it and squint at it....if it appears all one color you need to punch up some areas with darker or contrasting color...do you have the color coach?? that might help with additional color selection...you would be surprised at the difference it can make in your card. Good luck!!
Wow! What a difference! When I discovered this thread, the "after" had already been posted. It was really neat to hear all the different suggestions. I thought about what I might respond and then read through what more experienced stampers had to say... and then saw how you modified it. Really neat! Thanks for your willingness to share with us!
Wonderful card!! I also came in after the "after" card was posted. I so enjoyed reading all the hints and seeing the final creation. This is what SCS is all about!
What if we had a gallery called "Can you help this card?" We could post suggestions and the original artist would eventually re-do the card like what just happened today.
This was really fun to observe. I didn't get on this thread until the re-make was posted and I loved reading everyone's suggestions!
I personally think I should be the last person giving **any** advice!!
I think the coloring is *great* and wouldn't change the top layer at all. If it were me, I would probably change the middle layer to green to really make it *pop*-- Though I'm seeing definite shade difference, I think maybe I'm just not seeing enough tonal difference between the top and middle layers. Just my opinion... ~ Kaylyn
