Default What does CASE mean to you?

In the thread about CASEing I noticed that people seem to have lots of meanings for this acronym and depening on which meaning it could cause confusion as to the etiquette of CASEing.

These are the ones I've heard so far.
Copy and Steal Everything
Copy and Selectively Edit
Copy and Stamp Exactly

Anything else that CASE might mean? Which do you think of it as? I'm a "Selectively Edit" caser- so pretty much anything I consider to be inspiration I consider it having been CASEd, but if you thought of it as the first or the last, well it's only as CASE if you don't change anything.

I was told that it is copy and steal everything. Well...I could be wrong, but that is just what I heard first. ;)

Personally? I get ideas from SCS cards. I try not to CASE exactly....mainly cause I don't have the same supplies or whatever....but also...when I start to CASE a card...I have found that I am just inspired to add or change something because I like the look better. That's just me though.

Default Copy and Steal Everything...

However, I do consider it CASED even if it has minor changes (colors, sentiment, even substitute stamps).

Copy and Steal Everything is what I've always known it to mean. I take it to mean take ideas wherever and whenever you can get them. But I would always try to give credit to the original designer when possible. I've come to believe though, that there's nothing truly new under the sun! (What a wise man that King Solomon was!)

Sorry but I do not agree with you...after all, how many actually new-never been seen before---card can there be. Why take all the fun out of stamping...just share and enjoy... and if someone copies you..consider it flattery.

Copy and Steal Everything is what I've always heard and always say. I think people didn't like the "steal" part and tried to make it sound "nicer", hence the other versions.

I have never really thought about the meaning of the letters "C.A.S.E." since everything I know about this word I have learned from this site (in the past 5 months).
What it means to me though is that you copied someone's work exactly, colors and all. I do have some cards that I have CASE'd and in my mind most of them are really just my own interpretation of someone elses work but I give them credit anyway just because of what a sensitive area the whole CASEing issue is here and because it is nice to know that you gave someone inspiration, I PM them, too, just to give a heads up and because I don't want to be the subject of a thread about someone CASEing someones work and not acknowledging them...touchy subject.
Cards that I have truly CASEd, 100%, I don't post in my gallery since there is an exact model already.

CASE - Copy and Steal Everything. And we all do, so every card almost, should say CASED, so we don't step on anyone's toes!

It is easy with this many photos in one gallery, to see something, make it later and not even remember casing it!

Just my 2 cents worth!

I always say in my head "copy and share everything" but I treat everything I copy (whether it's layers, colours, stamps) the same. If it looks very similar, I call it cased and give credit where credit is due.

I think this is what my demo said, so this is what always goes through my head when I see CASE. I agree with another poster that "share" sounds nicer than "steal".

I try to give credit as well, when I remember to write down where I got an idea. I'm not sure where the line is, though. If you change a color, use a different bg, add some primas instead of ribbon, and use a different flower stamp, is it cased, inspired by, or your own creation?

I 'think' the term 'steal' comes from the police/crime world...
all my uncles (almost!) as well as a cousin, are rc's (Royal Canadian Mounted Police- my mom's sisters all seem to have the same 'type')

I always heard it as child as "the criminal CASE'D the joint..."

meaning to have a look around the property to see what they want to steal, how to get in and out, etc...

"come and see everything" first, then "come again, steal eveything".

maybe criminals think of it as 'sharing' too?

just some trivia.

I think of it as sharing.

" Create Art, Share, Encourage " is a nice one too.

Okay, for me it is CASE AND SHARE EVERYTHING! www means the World Wide Web so the second you put that card in the gallery it is being shared with the entire world. If your scared it'll be cased, don't upload it.

I think not giving credit is no worse than using an image and listing it as non SU. That compnay deserves credit for their image, if you don't know it say unknown, not non SU.

Some people seem to get very offended if they see a card that looks somewhat like the one they made. After looking through the gallery and looking through thousands of cards, it's hard to remember what ideas are mine and if any of them come from a card I once saw. I learned it as Copy and Share Everything. We should all give credit where credit is due, sometimes I just don't remember where I saw the card! I try to make sure I put something in my info about "CASED from someone, I'm sorry I don't remember who." If someone is that worried about someone copying their work, I agree with a previous poster, don't post it. I would consider it flattery!!! I would love to have work great enough that someone wanted to copy it! This is a great resource

Well, I've learned something new - I've never heard of CASE before. It's certainly worth thinking about. I tend to feel flattered if someone copies one of my designs, but I usually try to use ideas I see rather than straight copies. I certainly think that if anyone copies a design then they should give credit for it.

Ooops! I am an offender on the non-SU! thing. I will start putting the company if I know. I just did what seemed to be following convention for this site-clearly the ones I saw were not convention.

If I know I cased or was inspired, (it isn't ever ~exactly~ the same) I will pm the case-ee to let them know I am going to put the card in my gallery and also list their user ID in the description or a link to the card I was inspired by or both so they will not be upset.

I really didn't think it was an acronym. I thought is was like criminals "casing a joint". The way I case is more like Copy And Selectively Edit mostly because I don't have the materials to do it exactly. Unless it is from a sketch, I copy the link to the original card or reference the catty page in my notes.

Also, even though there aren't separate galleries for all the other stamps, if you search by company or stamp set names you can still find examples if people have listed them in their descriptions. For example if I search inkadinkado meadow here's what comes up. PS-if you want even more info here's a link to a thread on acronyms, specifically CASE

I always heard Copy and Share Everything which makes the most sense to me. When I post a project it's because I'm sharing it. No one is stealing it from me. It's still right where I posted it.

I always heard Copy and share with everyone. I do copy (sometimes) but I always donate. I have not even begun to pay for a fraction of all the "goodies" I have which includes going thru my favorite blogs so they get the commission (I have no idea what % they may get nor do I care but I do want to support those who inspire me. )with what little I have actually gotten paid for. Never have I tried to sell to a magazine w/ someone else's design or enter a challenge. but if you don't want it copied don't share it.

I'm in the "selectively edit" camp. I think of it like the Featured Stamper challenge here on SCS - find a card from the Featured Stamper's gallery that inspires you, but change a couple of things. I agree that it is common courtesy to acknowledge where your inspiration came from (if you know), especially if it's pretty close to the one you based yours on. I always try to include a link to where I found it, too, if I have one. I've never been upset if someone did a card close to mine (with or without credit), but I have been a bit...aggravated?...when it was exactly the same, but presented as their original idea...

Well I never knew completely what CASE did mean...I thought it might mean copying but never knew the Share Everything or Steal Everything. I also thought it mean Clean And Simple but could never figure out what the E stood for! hahaha...just goes to show I've been living on some other planet!!
