Question What happens to the Retired Sets...

Can anyone tell me what SU! does with the retired sets that do not sell?

I'm assuming the company produces the sets in bulk quantities based on carefully calculated sales projections. However, you can never been 100% accurate on such things, and I would assume they occasionally have excess inventory remaining even after the last day to purchase retired sets.

So, let's say they have 2,000 Sun Ripened II sets on hand, they retire it, and 1,700 sets are purchased as a result. What becomes of the other 300 sets?

Just curious...

I also wondered about this? Maybe they donate them to charity? Just a thought

exactly right Britta. I know because I called DS and asked this very question. Any left over stamps are donated to charity. ;)

I did the same thing this year-- I received over $250 worth of retired product! Stamps, cardstock, an album, ribbons, punches... I expected a couple things, but WOW! SU really gave a lot for my kids' school!

Since they make the stamps themselves, they are able to have close quantinty control as well. They will not end up with thousands of extra retired sets, but will have some.

I can't wait for July to see exactly how it is all done!!!!

When I called a few weeks ago to see if one of last year's retired sets was still kicking around cuz I was missing 1 stamp, I was told they hold the discontinued stamps for 90 days, in case of exchanges and missing stamps, and then they donate the stamps.

My sons school received a donation and I just received a donation for my sisters "Challenged Adult" school. They are both using them as fundraisers for the schools. Each box had mostly retired sets in them.

Hope that helps. They go to good causes.

How do you go about getting a donation for schools ? My daughters' school has a big fundraiser coming up... was wondering if there was a form that must be submitted or if you email DS or what you need to do??

I am an occupational therapist. A big part of my job is to develop fine motor control in children with special needs. I recently emailed SU, told them who I was and that I've been a loyal customer (TOO loyal per DH!) for several years. They sent me a box with more than FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS worth of products! Most of them were retired. That donation made me even more committed to this wonderful company! BTW, I'm helping to grow them a whole new generation of devoted stampers

What a great use, Lisa! That is fantastic. It's always nice to hear that companies like SU! are willing to donate to worthy causes.
