Hi, have plenty of ideas on stamp set storage now - next question is what method do U use to sort them - I note some alphabetically; some by catty category. How do U sort stamp sets that have many differing elements, such as greeting for all reasons - with words and other "things"? Need your help - you have great ideas. Thanks, Valda
I sort all my image sets alphabetically, then I have Backgrounds (sorted alphabetically) and sentiment sets (sorted alphabetically), and alphabets (sorted alphabetically).
I find this to be the easiest way to find what I am looking for.
I have all of mine sorted by the size of the box and then alphabetically. So, the small boxes are all together and then in order alphabetically.
The only other thing I have different is the background stamps...they are all together and in alpha. order.
They are all in a large bookcase this way. (I like things neat and tidy!)
Well, I have 9 shelves for my stamps. One day I should post a photo! LOL! Here are my categories:
1) Scrapbooking. This would be for my alphabet and journaling stamps.
2) Critters. This is for all my animal stamps: bears, fish, butterflies, etc.
3) Nature. This is for trees, leaves, seashells, scenery, etc.
4) Children. This is for the baby stamps, childish stamps, preggo stamps, etc.
5) Words. Obviously for the tons of words and sayings.
6) Seasonal. I use this shelf for spring, summer and fall stamps plus other stamps that are multi-seasonal.
7) Christmas and Winter. They take up a whole shelf, yet I keep buying more! Miscellaneous. This is a rather huge category because everything else goes here.
9) Backgrounds and Borders. Again, a HUGE collection.
Is there a 12-step program for this?

I have mine separated into categories, such as floral, sentiments and so on. But the in each section I have them separated further into similar styles. As an example in the florals I have bold, bold outline, detailed, floral in containers (vases, baskets) watercolor flowers (sets that look watercolored) and flowers with backgrounds (floral sets that have a smaller background stamp included). I think this system works for me because I usually know what type of stamp I want to use, but then I can choose between those types of flowers or whatever. This also works in the sentiments; bithday, thankyou and so on. But other categories such as foliage is just that, since I don't have as many as in the florals. In my christmas section, I have whimsical, formal, and snowmen. My next plan is to make an index sheet of each set and put it in a binder, so that I can flip through that to pick what I want to use.
Another thing I plan on doing when I make my index binder, is to stamp any of the sentiment / words that come in with other stamps, a second time and put that with the sentiments in the binder. I will write down what set it is in so that I will know where to find it.
I arrange mine according to what they are.
I have ones that are Retired kept to the side,
But close by so I can still use them.
And then the current ones.
The set's that have 2 CD cases,
I put in the top of the CD Tower.
Flowers next
Sayings
Animals,
Western,
Christmas
Fall/Halloween,
Other Holidays,
And with my Stampin' Up! stamps I have them in Large Box with the label end sticking out,
So I can view them better.
I do have other Wood Mounted Rubber Stamps that I have stored on a Wooden Shelf.
And I keep them according to the Marker of the stamps.
I am a purest at heart and a born organizer. I have all of my sets in Alphabetical order. that way I know right where they are, no second guessing and no wondering where to put it back.
