I second the Bellas! I also think the A Muse scenes that you can create with their stamps are really cute. I think they've been around for a while but they are a new trend for me.
I LOVE all the scallops, but I just can't justify spending the money on the punches! I'm awful that way.
and I recently fell in love with A Muse stamps, and I think it's because of the different ways I've seen them used online. So great.

I think real doddle-y doodles have peaked and are on the way back down.
I think the next thing will be more architectural stamps - a step beyond the flourishes - different motifs. You can see some of this already in stamps and patterened paper. Influences of other countries (India for instance) or other times (some victorian-ish, but reinterpreted to be cleaner and more modern)
It seems like some stamp companies are abandoning background stamps (particularly ones that also sell patterned paper). That could backfire because people always want want they can't have. I know I have become more interested in background stamps lately and have had to stray from my usual sources to get them.
Personally, I love stamps where you take images and put together a picture (like Rosie's Roadshow, Amuse and justjohanna) - but I don't think its really a trend - just my personal preference. So fun to put those little scenes together.
I really like using the scalloped punches, and the Gina K stamps and the Papertrey stamps that go with them. It's so simple to make a nice looking card. We're all so busy. I'd love to spend an evening on one card, but there is just not enough time. I like the simple looks, not too complicated.

I DON'T like the retro type stamps and most of the colors other than turquoise blue and lime green. The brown + pink, blue, yellow green isn't appealing to me.
I would like to see stamps that can be used in different ways. Some of stamps by Judith are like that.
I loved the scallops since last year at an Heirloom Stampfest when I first saw them. If I had known that I wouldn't be able to get my hands on one I would have bought a large and small one!
Boy, we sistahs sure have a lot of oppinions! Makes me see that there really aren't any trends. We all like what we like! (thank goodness)

Aren't we lucky we have soooooooooooo many choices? After all, what would the world be like if everyone like just Vanilla ice cream. Boring.
Not that Vanilla is boring, I love it, but I love being able to try Jamocha Almond Fudge, Chocolate Peanut Butter . . . well, you get my drift.
BTW, how did I get on ice cream here? I must be hungry. Gotta go, the freezer is calling my name.
Thanks for enabling. I think I'll have Cherry Garcia for dinner!

Anything Retro. Love the new Crafty Secrets 50's style a lot. Paper Trey and My Favorite things are "new" looking. I am sooooo tired of same old, same old stuff. I do not like cartoony looking things. Distorted looking humans are the worst! I love the scallops and the stamps that go with them. Funky stamps are where I am headed. I spend about $500 a month and have strong opinions about where my money will go. I don't like goofy looking things. I love beautiful images, profound sentiments, and adorable things like House Mouse. A Muse is great too, but over priced for the tiny little images that are really artistically simple.
Maybe it's wishful thinking but I've seen some lovely and elegant cards and simpler ones. Lots of cards using giga scalloped circle. I wish I'd bought this one instead of the oval. Think the circle is more versatile to simple image stamps.
The simple but versatile and oh so lovely A Muse, Impress, Savvy Stamps, Memory Box etc. images, which make quick and easy yet stunning cards, will never go out of fashion (IMHO). I like that you can combine a few different images together on one cardfront, or use a single image and dress the card up with embellishments, background papers, layering, etc. Not keen on the retro look - find it too limiting. I think trends like the Cuttlebug embossing folders and dies, and scalloped punches are great, but not sure how long their popularity will last - just like previous trends, i.e. fibers, wire, metal charms and words, etc. However, no doubt the manufacturers will soon come up with new gizmos to take their place! Just my 2c worth anyway.

What she said!
I also wanted to comment about what I personally am interested in spending money on these days is anything that is multi-functional ... one product that does more than one thing. In stamp sets, I like mix & match-a-bility, i.e. using a main image and customizing it with other bits and pieces, like some of the Papertrey sets; a lot of the sets in SU (all in the family, voila & accessories, the truck, the boat); that new Flourishes cake stamp set. Those are some that immediately come to mind, but those kinds of sets make me feel like I'm getting more variety and customization for my money.
The same thing with tools, like Crop-a-dile or the new Nestabilities -- more bang for your buck and takes up less room.

I'm seeing a lot of flourishes these days, but maybe they just jump out at me because I love the look. As I was stepping off the light rail train this morning, a girl got on wearing a t-shirt with a design on it, and immediately my brain went "hey, that's a flourish -- cool!"
I've never liked the retro style -- it just looks "washed out" to me. I like simple styles and embellishments. While the fancy stuff always looks nice in the magazines, I don't see myself going to all the work needed to get those results. I like cute (but not cutesy), and something with a sense of humor. The flourishes are gaining in popularity right now, and I have a few, but I still need to figure out how to incorporate them into my card designs.
The thing I've really noticed that's been new (at least to me), is a lot more humor and fun. I think the scallops, polka dots and even flourishes all have that fun, flirty feeling. Add all the doodles, primas and a bit of stickles, mix with a healthy dose of witty sayings and you really can't help smiling!

I don't know that they are TRENDS, but the heavy, multi-layered, "collagey", victorian look turns me off. I like the simple, elegant cards. Love the CB and scallops but also wonder how long they'll last. Also because of changes in postal rules, there may be less layering and bulkiness. Just my .02 worth.
I'm happy to see you asking. Because I stopped buying your magazines a while back because they all looked the same. They've been Somerset-ized.
I was a big follower of Somerset Studio for a long time, don't get me wrong. But once it started promoting a certain style and stopped featuring the variety that it used to, I got tired of it. There are only so many art dolls anyone needs to look at in one lifetime, KWIM? ;)
And then I noticed that the Stamper's Sampler started featuring more and more of the same style of artwork and I stopped buying that. And finally, Take Ten started drifting that way too and I haven't bought the last few issues.
As for the OP, I can see that the vintage stamping style has gone out of style...shabby chic is on it's way out and people are looking for cleaner looking images. But I would love it if you could move Stamper's Sampler back to what it used to be: a SAMPLING of the different styles of artwork out there, not just one or mostly one kind.

I think the newest trend is incorporating more diecuts (be it punches, cuttlebug, cricut, etc etc....) along with stamping! cool to see stamps made for these items/shapes. LOVE it ALL!!
I want to thank you all for your input. I wanted them not only for the magazine, but I personally like to see what everyone else is up to. I agree with those of you that feel that The Stampers' Sampler should go back to its roots and show a sampling of what kind of work is out there, while Take Ten should focus on clean, simple and FUN cards. But remember, our magazines can only show what we receive, so if our submissions are not all different, the magazines may take on a more uniform style. That's why I'm trying to recruit new people with new styles to spice up the magazine. I love that there are so many artists that are doing a variety of work. I think my cards tend to have one certain style--the very simple and clean. I'd love to be able to work in a variety of ways. I also think that the emergence of all these new stamp companies is FANTASTIC! There is such a variety of stamps out there, and combine that with COPICs (I NEED A SET! UGH!), there really is some amazing work out there.
Thank you again for all your input!

Sorry, I'm late in posting this. However, I noticed no one mentioned (or I missed It) the trend toward Western/Cowboy style. That seems to be big right now.

I really like the flourish-y scrolls, they're elegant and artful. Still ok with collage look, but am really done with party hats and wings on vintage photos.
Also really like retro stuff from the 40's thru early 60's, not the hippie-rockstar stuff that has been popping up.
just mho!
