I'm not sure what is the right forum or subform to post this question, and it's not totally related to stamping really at all, but I figured maybe you crafty people would know :grin:
Can you use certain markers (Sharpie, alchohol-based markers, ...) on flocking to change the color? The flocking is currently a dark mauve/pink, and I would like it to be a light grayish color. (It is actually a drawer, but I would only need to change the color on the sides because I could put a piece of material in the bottom. I used chalk paint on a few of the smaller flocked drawers, and while I like the color result, it took so many coats, bubbled a bit, and I don't love the texture/feel of it.
(first photo is of the smaller drawers I chalk painted; second photo is one one of the larger drawers that I'm wanting to possibly make the color closer to the first); third photo is when I was just seeing how the fabric might look (ignore the pink dividers because they are from the smaller drawers that I already painted).
While I do think that such markers would work on flocking, I'm pretty certain they'd only work on changing a light colour to a dark. I don't think you'd be able to colour dark pink to light grey.
Can you not remove the old flocking, and replace with one in the colour you like?

Thank you, that makes sense. No, the flocking is really on there good and it's in good shape, so I don't think I'd want to rip it all up and then go to the expense of figuring out how to re-flock it.
Would it be possible to adhere (not sure what would work, but you could ask. Splitcoasters are awesome!) light gray flock over the link flock? It's the only option I can come up with.

Oh, I have no idea, maybe it would work. I didn't really look into flocking because I thought you had to have a flocking machine and I really don't want to put much money into doing the last 4 drawers, but maybe there's even something not very expensive that can be adhered to it like you said. Thanks.
I agree-going from dark to light would take something like a paint not an an ink, and I cant see how that would look good bc flock is so thin paint would feel stiff on it. UNLESS...hmmm....do you have any of the oxide inks? They sit on the the surface. Maaaaybbbbeeee.....if you have it around you could do a small test on a back wall with a dauber....you might have to do a bunch of coats.
Would you be satisfied with thin felt instead of flocking? There is also velvet paper in the world...both can be glued on though I might go with super strong DS tape with the paper...like Sook. Just google grey velvet paper and a lot comes up.
You could use glitter glue and re-flock it yourself if you can manage to paint on a very thin coating with a flat brush....I dont know how pretty it would be. Does it matter?
Have you tried cans of spray paint? You'd have to mask the drawer edges but there's many kinds of Rust-o-leum spray paint that have great coverage for all sorts of surfaces. However, it may change the texture of the flocking, but maybe not as much compared to brush painting.
