I'm writing out instructions for someone to make a card and I want to tell them to put a piece of white cardstock inside the card (since it is made of dark paper) to write on.
What would you CALL that inside piece of white paper? I can't come up with an easy way to say this?!

What about an interior layer or just a plain white ?x? layer? I'm kinda stumped too! Hope you find wording you like.

Well, I don't want to cause problems, but to me, an insert is inserted, not attached. If you go to a play and there is a different person playing one of the parts, that is listed on the insert, which is just stuck in there last minute.
I would be sure to say to glue down the white layer. If you told me to insert it, I would just stick it in there.
I would call it a panel, if it's just one white CS mat attached to the inside of the card, an insert if it's a folded white CS that 'floats' inside the card.
I'd describe it as a "liner," similar to many of the store-bought cards. I do this all the time for dark cardstock, only instead of just a single quarter-size piece of cardstock, I use a half-sheet of high quality copy paper (what you'd use in your printer/copier) trimmed to fit inside the card, allowing a very small margin all around. Looks pretty classy, and, you can stamp your sentiment on the sheet OR print your own sentiment on your computer (custom-made). Linda

I always use a white panel in my cards. I use to SNAIL it on all four corners and in the middle to attach it well. Now, I tell everyone that it's just attached with small strip of SNAIL and they can carefully remove it and recycle the card. They all love that idea.
When I am giving directions I use the word affix (this allows you to use adhesive, or corner punches, etc. in your directions without getting to wordy). example - affix the liner (insert, panel) to the interior of your card using _______. Looks like you've received many great words - and I think I'll have to add some to my vocabulary
