Oh, my! Can I even remember way back then? The first workshop I went to I bought 3 stamp sets & a black ink pad. Used colored pencils to color in.
Stamps: Swags, Sprays & Stuff, & I think A Thing of Beauty & Simple Pleasures. I do not own any of them anymore. It took me about 3 years to realize I don't like to color all that much, so I did a major changeover in the style of stamps that I purchase.
My first set was Bitty Bolds and the Bold Check Frame. I thought I would use those a lot since they were sooooo versatile. I was so naive back then...... I think it was '96 or '97 when I went to my first party.

My first set was a gift from my best friend - can't remember the name right now but it was a Christmas set with a cardinal, wreath, birdhouse, pointsettia spray and more. I had recently gotten into stamping but had never heard of SU. My friend also bought me a catty and I couldn't put it down!
I was introduced to SU! this past Feb. and what a good time since it was SAB. I bought a lot of paper and other accessories. The only stamp sets I bought were the small background stamps but I bought $100.00 worth of stuff so I got Lexicon of Love and Garden Collage for free........11 months later and a lot poorer ;)
Recipe Fun, and a personalized name address stamp. Then I had to spend the extra few dollars to get the SAB set Quick and Cute, which I used once and has sat in a drawer ever since!
My first set was Flashy Florals in 1999. Basically it was demo'd at the first show I went to and I just bought it because I could not think outside of the box! I have since sold it because it is not my style at all. One other thing I bought at my first SU show was blender pens and I have been hooked on those ever since (now I'm on my third set).
Fall Fun, I think! I got an Apple Wheel around the same time, too. I figured if it had food on it, I could make cards related to my Pampered Chef business & have a tax write off. Now I'm trying to figure out how to make my gazillion sets business related! ha, ha!
The first set I bought was to use in a scrapbook I made my grandson. I don't know the name of it - it has 4 stamps. They are a back hoe, dump truck, pile of dirt with a sign that says "Boys at Work", and a steam shovel. It has a date of 1990 on them but since I made that scrapbook in 1998-99 that's when I would have gotten them. I knew nothing about mounting stamps then and did not trim them at all. I have a 1999-2000 catalog and looked through it to see if I could find its name but it wasn't in there.
The next set I bought was All-Season Wreath. I have NEVER used it but now that I have a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, I think I can do something with it. I am very sentimental about my SU stamps and cannot get rid of them even if I don't use them.
Good thread !!
My 1st set was Holiday Sampler and 6 ink pads back 6 years ago ...I made Christmas gift tags, Boy was I proud of myself.
I remeber using Avery address labels to stamp them on...
Let it Snow was the first set that I bought...I paid $5.00 for it 7 years ago at a garage sale...Now I have nearly 250 sets and still addicted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first set I owned which I never bought was Cute as a bug. I got it as a Rak from a good friend. The first set I bought was I like your style! I got this set given to me and I can't find it in the gallery Corners Mini! Have you heard of it or seen it?

Recipe Fun. I had the bright idea that I was going to make everyone recipe cards for Christmas that year. I used it to make 5, put it away and haven't used it since. I did buy lots of other sets though!
If it's got little girls and kittens, I've got to have it.

In July 1999, I got Meow Meow, Bold Blossoms, a spectrum kaleidacolor, and a gray pad. Then, I had a party in October 1999 and signed up immediately. The rest is history...
I held my first party during SAB 2002. I had never been to a party before, but my friends were all into stamping. Anyway, I bought a lot of sets on that fateful night...Hedgehog Happiness (WHY??) Bunny Buddies, You Are My Sunshine (because I sang that song to dd #1 every night) Simply Spring (again, WHY???) I also earned all the SAB sets, plus a duplicate on the fourth one. I also got Winter Play, the HA set. I still use that set every winter, and it is by far one of my all time top ten sets.
Great question! I've enjoyed reading the responses.
My first stamp sets (and this was back in 1999) was Elegant Greetings, Bold Birthday and I think it was a leaf set...not sure which one. I do know that Party Animals and Kids and Play were one of the first sets that I purchased as well within the first six months of my addition.
