I think I've bought some of all those mentioned. Many are unused. The foam stamps, the ones that are too intricate. The only kind I dislike are the words and phrases that are spelled wrong to be cute; such as "I moose you", "unfrogettable".
I'm always disappointed when they are included in a set that appeals to me.
No offense to those companies, or people who do find them charming.
They just aren't my style.

I just started stamping and I am rapidly getting a collection of stamps. I am finding more that I like than I don't like.
One thing that I am struggling with are the magnolia cards. I have seen some beautiful cards but why doesn't she have a mouth. I haven't decided if I am going to get any for that reason alone.
I went to HObby Lobby and bought a stamp that was beautiful. We had had two deaths and I hate to do sympathy cards. But this stamp is Jesus working at a window and a small child playing on the floor. I bought two of these stamps at two different times. I was sick. The rubber was smooth and no indents. I went back and tried it again, embossing made it worse so ink was tried. It never printed nicely. Now my lesson is to look at all stamps and if they are smooth leave them on the shelves...if anyone knows how to get over this with a stamp I am reading to learn. Thanks.
Not to hijack this thread but- I know the stamp you are talking about and I have it. It's beautiful. To make it work better, lay it on it's back, Ink it up with a brayer. Lay your cardstock gently on top then a scratch piece of paper on top and rub all over it. I was able to get a much cleaner image that way.
Hope that helps.

I have also discovered that the country/folk style isn't for me. I look back at those stamps and just scratch my head and ask myself, "What was I thinking?"
I have several alphabet sets. I use them--not as much as I should--but they sure come in handy for certain projects.
I like sentiment stamps. I don't have a lot, but I am always looking for unique/clever/thoughtful words that I can use for cards and scrapbooking.
Lest stamp companies are looking through this, I LOVE the vintage/collage style stamps. It is just my style.
I second this! I don't get all the dislike of vintage. I also love flourishes! I don't care for the sunken face looking children (Precious Moments type) or the skinny women stamps that fit every theme (I won't mention any names here but I know they are highly popular...just not for me). I also hate those foam stamps..I have some old sets from when I was first stamping and they are terrifble to ink..but I do like some of the images...one is a set from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has, dare I say, vintage and artsy type images.... My style has changed over the years and so has my taste in stamps..I don't use folk or country stamps much any more.
I don't like collage style stamps, alphabets or country style stamps. I like sillhouettes, but I have a very hard time getting a good impression with them so I rarely ever use them.
btw, just because I don't like something for me doesn't mean that I can't appreciate a beautifully made item containing a particular stamp that does nothing for me. I've seen some gorgeous things made with kids with large heads!

I don't care for collage type stamps. I won Garden Collage at a show, made one card that I hated with it, and sold it quickly.
Halloween stamps. Hate the holiday, hate the stamps.
Country stamps--no angels, cross-stitched hearts, geese, stoves, etc.
And finally-NO CHILDREN. No baby buggies, cute (or not) kids, child-like drawings, etc. Ick. There was a wedding set I saw once that had the child-like art on it--what was the designer thinking?
That being said, what Joan said, right above me. Just because the images or art doesn't work for me doesn't mean I cannot appreciate your artistic work on a project...

ITA! I can't stand anything done by Thomas Kincaide. It just makes me want to hurl. BUT, I can appreciate how someone crafts a card using his stamps: the color choices, paper selection, etc. Hate the stamp, love the stamper! :-D
Hmmm lets see. Since im pretty new to stamping....
I dont like:
Collage stamps
large stamps with tons of detail- they wouldnt come out right anyway
Block stamps
Doodles - since i can doodle for myself
Faery stamps! - Im very picky about faery and fantasy subjects, im a faery artist and a lot of the faery stamps ive seen just dont fit in with what i like about faeries. It would also feel strange to me stamping a faery that i didnt create.
I tend to buy stamps that catch my eye from some reason or another, my collection is small compared to the studio pictures ive seen of pple on SCS =) I do like nice bird stamps, cute stamps, if i can picture the stamp on a card then ill want it =)
I don't like a lot of intricate details. While I love looking at all the wonderfully-colored stamps in the gallery (definitely what I'd call "art!") I just don't have the time to get into coloring images. I like stylized images. (Although I really lke the stippled stamps that I have.)
Not into the "people/kiddies/cutsey animal" stamps either. And I don't like the "shaped" cards - the onesies, bikinis, corsets. Just not my personal style.
But I love that other people are into other things. It would be a boring world if everyone liked the same things!
I'm probably like a lot of people, I have more stamps that are feminine in nature...and I have trouble sometimes coming up with masculine cards. I do have some ship-themed stamps (it's the pirate in my blood! LOL), but I seem to be in a "masculine card rut," if you get my drift.

I don't know....I don't like stamps that are too cutesy. Like the images of people that have tiny bodies and giant heads. I also don't like stamps that are too country. Truthfully though, after being on SCS for a while now, I have bought and used (and yes, really liked) stamps that I never would have before.

i actually bought one of those stamps THINKING that i might like it once i used it.. i still hate them! lol... i really should sell the stupid stamp because i will never use it again, but whatever..
i also don't like stamps of people that look like Archie comics.. i like cutesy people (elzybells, bella) but not the comic-like ones. too.. i don't know, comic-like and not craft-like.

I design for: Stampendous!, There She Goes, Technique Tuesday,
SRM Stickers and Deconstructed Sketches.
I don't like a lot of the stamps already mentioned: vintage, collage, sentiments that don't really mean anything that I definately wouldn't use on a card, religious stamps of any kind, people without heads and ones I would call "old granny stamps" - ones I would expect my grandmother to like (if I had one) that are just too old fashioned for my tastes (kind of in the vein of Thomas Kincade).
I do, however, like Tildas without her mouth and people with heads larger than they should be (thinking of Anyas and Ians here).
Alpha sets - I have a lot and only use one from Technique Tuesday
Retro (50-60"s)
Vintage
Country Cute
Clipart (stamps that look like they were made from clipart)
Hedgehogs
headless
Kids - ok with no magnolias (love them) but most of the other "kids" are a no-no for me
Pouty/snooty skinny women - I see enough of these everyday, don't want to stamp them
I'm just so glad there are so many types and styles of stamps or I'd get bored senseless. I guess there are a few I don't like to do for myself:
Alphabets
Monkeys
Don't much like cutsey, but love whimsical.
Love vintage and flowers, if real looking.
and my all time favorites are leaves and trees. Haven't met many I haven't liked.

The one thing that came to mind immediately that I've never used and never appreciated are the people stamps- primarly the children. I'm sorry- I just can't like them.
I used to say cutesy was a style I couldn't stand but it totally depends on the specific style- it's probably more like "country-cutesy" like Krystie Lee said that I don't care for, and many of the trendy new lines I'm not on-board with yet. I like cutesy like "Wild About You" style though.
Good question Faith- I am totally enjoying reading what everyone else says!
I have to laugh because it only took 4 posts before it went from "types" of stamps to more "specific" types of stamps. Or maybe it is all in the interpretation.
Anyhoo, I absolutely LOVE Magnolia's but have no use for the "moose". I love whimsical and kids but, not when large heads and small bodies are involved, and since we are on the subject of "heads", I also love the "headless" people as long as they are at the top of the paper where it just appears that you can't see it...not in the middle of the page, where they appear, well, headless! Clear as mud?
Not into "solid" stamps of any kind. Not into the whole "collage" thing but appreciate those that are! I don't care for any stamp that looks like it was drawn by me, because I can't draw anything and I prefer to leave it to talented people who can.
That about covers it for me...everything else is fair game!
What a great question Faith! I will preface my list by saying that I may have some execptions to the rule in the list I'm about to compose. An individual stamp may apeal to me even if it fits into one of the following categories:
* any religious images or sentiments.
* large painting images (i.e. Thomas Kinkaid) I do enjoy coloring but that is just too much!
* I have a hard time with large background stamps. I can never get them evenly inked or stamped. I'm much more inclined to take one or two smaller images and repeat them on the page. Or just use DP.
* I'm not a big fan of doodled cartoony images that look like I could have done them myself.
* I like the idea of 2 step stamping and have several sets for it, but I've learned that I can't seem to get it right most of the time so I avoid them now.
* Vintage or collage sytle (I"m thinking Tim Holtz). Last Fall I went to a stamping show and for an hour watched a demo play with Tim Holtz stamps and products. I was fascinated with the techniques and results but walked away knowing that it was so against my asthetic that I'd never spend my money there.
* I completel agree with the posts mentioning skulls. Of any kind. Anyone who thinks that a skull can be cute is crazy!!
I think that's all!!

Do you know if there's a 12-step program for stamping? No, seriously, is there??
Not a huge fan of things I need to color, realistic images, artsy type stuff or things that are doodly or hand drawn. I prefer solid images that give me versatility. Interesting question!
What a great question. Loved reading everyone's answers.
I don't like
anything with skulls
pirates
too weird or scary looking halloween stamps (love the cute ones like halloween hedgehogs)
double line doodle stamps
headless or faceless people
country style people (like stella stamper)
solid images (I do use them - but rarely)
I don't like probably 90% of sentiment stamps. I only like them if they're generic (like ONLY "happy birthday" and NOTHING ELSE, and I only like them if they're clear stamps. Oh, I also like them if they're in French. But anything longer than a general sentiment really annoys me. Those Mother Teresa quotes in particular really, really come to mind. Even though I might agree with what the sentiment says in real life (be kind to yourself, enjoy life, if friends are flowers I'd pick you, etc.), the thought of putting such sentiments on an actual card makes me sick.
I do like the LOOK of beautifully arranged words that are in beautiful fonts, regardless of meaning. So often I wished the words themselves could also be of use to me - something that I would feel fine about putting on a card. For example, I love the beauty of that SU! stamp from Best Blossoms (?) that says "THANK you for being YOU". But I would never, ever, ever, ever, ever send a card with that sentiment to ANYONE!!!!
WOW! So many people dislike vintage? I find that really surprising...but, of course, each to his own...
Biggest pet dislike.....Digital stamps....just a gussied up fancy name for clip art...advanced clipart , I grant you...but it is still clipart...I believe it isn't stamping at all! Stamping is all about making an impression on your card/paper.
I do not like stamps with any religious overtone (from any religion)
The stamps which look like they were drawn by a 5 year (sorry all 5 year olds)
Or those ones with the double lines all over??? (couldn't get the drawing right the first time around?)
Over the top cute.
I do LOVE vintage stamps. I have no problem with the solid stamps...lots of things you can do with them. I love silhouette style stamps because they complement the many backgrounds I do. I love background stamps which co-ordinate with the focal stamp I am using. I love scenic stamps, cute, arty, floral.....For me, it usually depends on the individual stamp or plate or mood I am in to stamp....
Not too many subject matter stamps I don't deal with....apart from the religious stuff, Halloween (we don't do Halloween here...or haven't until the last few years where it seems to copying the US), Easter....it is not a big card giving event either here...so hence no Easter stamps....
Pray tell what is the sock monkey thing?
Thanks ladies...this has been a really interesting thread to read.
All above opinions are my own and in no way there as an insult to anyone! Everyone has their own likes and dislikes...I still look at work even though I don't do that particular way!
I don't care for artsy collage stamps, religious stamps, ones that looks like a 3 year old drew them (I can do that without a stamp!), the weird little kids with no mouths, or big heads and big, creepy-looking eyes. Someone else mentioned country-cutesy, yuck. And RubberStampMadness....that stuff is just too weird for me, I don't get it at all.
the stuff in rubber stamp madness....just have no eye for it
snakes
skulls
useless sentiments, like "embrace your bliss"
large headed people
stamps that are near identical to other stamps!!!
Joan's list is my list, too! I'd probably add anything trendy...you know, owls, funky birds, lollipop trees, big ugly never-seen-'em-before- in -nature flowers. After ten years of stamping, I've witnessed first hand how the trends just have no shelf life.
This thread really got specific! LOL!
I have to laugh, since my list USED to look like so many listed here!
Now, I'm pretty much "Anything Goes," with stamps...I own MANY different companies' images, and have given away so VERY MANY....(I only have a 1300 sq. foot home, and my stampin' room is 10' x 12'! However, I have my closet, Markie's closet and under both our beds, though!)
I've also used Digi stamps. I want to address that...Yes, it is "clip art." I AGREE!!! However, with the economy right now, LOTS of stampers can't afford new stamps and some stamp companies now offer digital images along with their "traditional" line. I LOVE that! Also, if you are like me, LOVE EVERYTHING, and WANT IT, digital stamps offer a space saving alternative.

I DO NOT like or buy clear stamps.
I DO NOT like extremely simplistic or cartoony images of people and animals.
I DO NOT like stamps of inanimate objects with faces
I DO NOT like Christian stamps in general, unless it is vintag-y images of nuns or the Madonna- I like those.
I DO NOT like sentiments that use very strange or goofy looking fonts. I prefer classic fonts on my sentiments.
In general, I DO NOT like tiny stamps, but there are some exceptions.
I DO NOT like headless people stamps, people with stick limbs, or people with puffy heads and no mouths.
I DO like food, ice cream, cupcake, coffee, tea, and cocktail stamps.
I DO like humorous senior stamps.
I DO like owl, bird, dog, cat, fish, insect, and pretty much any animal stamps, depending on the look.
I DO like unmounted rubber.
I DO like people and fairy, and children stamps.
I DO like flower and tree and leaf stamps.
I DO like retro and vintage stamps.
I DO like Halloween, Christmas, and most holiday stamps. Easter and 4th of July are my least favorites, I guess.
I DO like goth and skull stamps.
I DO like sentiments that are humorous, off color, dark humor- and on the other hand love and friendship sayings.
I DO like sayings that match my stamps, such as "You are my little cupcake" for a cupcake stamp, etc.
I DO like flourishes and doodles.
I DO like journaling stamps.
I DO like circular stamps.
I do like solid, outline, or sketchy looking stamps.
I DO like stamps that go with other stamps, such as a bench for my character to sit on.
I DO like stamps that look kind of like Holly Hobby (such as Elisabeth Bell.)
Everybody has such different tastes! Even with that I still find my head nodding a lot of the styles folks listed.
Not real fond of.
solid images - can't get them to ink right
backgrounds - see above
vintage - Love what other folks do with them but can't get them to work for me!
folk art or country (patchwork\geese\chickens)
cutsey
most children
most doodles
realistic - more into line art or fanciful images.
That's all I can think of right now. There's probably more but they just aren't coming to mind.
btw, just because I don't like something for me doesn't mean that I can't appreciate a beautifully made item containing a particular stamp that does nothing for me. I've seen some gorgeous things made with kids with large heads!
I think the reason I like the kids with large heads is because they remind me of some of DS's cartoons. But the cartoons also have big eyes. I believe the style started in Japan. Not sure though.
